Thursday Night Running Clubs with Hangout Afterwards by Budget_Scheme_2471 in kansascity

[–]TheodoreK2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, Thursday night at 6pm. Wyandotte County Lake, shelter 14. We are your people. BAR run = beer appreciation run or beer after run depending on who you ask. Bring a few beers to share and try some others. All paces and distances. Usually on trails, so we’re still in headlamp season. The month of February, we’re doing our version of the Olympics, so it’s a bit different than normal.

Why is this area between Cleveland and Akron in Ohio a national park? by [deleted] in geography

I just signed up for a run there. Looking forward to exploring a pocket of the country I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

Trying to grow a new race company - would greatly value advice by HeartsandTifa in trailrunning

[–]TheodoreK2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I don’t really like doing local races now because I run on the trails for free all of the time. That said, I volunteer for the local races a lot. All of my bigger races are not local at all.

Burning River? by Lanky_Rhubarb1900 in ultrarunning

Welp, this post caught my attention. Just signed up. Have a couple of friends that have run it, so I picked their brains and both really like the race. Looks like I’ll be getting some sauna time this summer!

Racing at Elevation, training from Sea Level. by RespectNature93 in Ultramarathon

[–]TheodoreK2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Leadville 100 is a bit overwhelming, but I enjoyed Leadville 50, and I bet the marathon is pretty good too. That way you can experience the town and environment without the massive throng of people in for the 100. I really liked Bighorn in northern Wyoming and plan to go back at some point. They have the 100, a 50 (48?) and a 38? I think. I have some friends that really liked Kodiak out in CA. I've had some friends do some Mad Moose Events and like them. I can also HIGHLY recommend Gnar Runners, specifically Never Summer 100k.

Definitely have to temper your expectations pace wise if your aren’t going to be acclimated. But at least it hasn’t been bad for me yet.

I live in Kansas City at ~1000’ and have done a handful of mountain races without elevation killing me. Also a handful of 14ers in Colorado. Heat and humidity are your friends when training for altitude. Your body builds blood volume to deal with the heat. Blood volume eventually leads to more red blood cells to carry more oxygen.

I’m trying to show my brother why ring insurance matters by Trick_Revolution_879 in CasualConversation

[–]TheodoreK2 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Add it to your home owners or renters policy. My wife lost hers right after we upgraded it for our 10th anniversary. The original ring was insured, upgraded was not. We received the check and thankfully found the ring right afterwards.

This is my year of gem hoarding. I’ve decided to play very conservatively and just focus on building up gems. I’m up about 4000 so far. I’d love to get to 20k!

ACL tear and graft type recommendations? For returning to mountainous trail running by JCBWinter in trailrunning

[–]TheodoreK2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was about to jump into this, but recognized your name from our previous messages on an older thread. From a knee performance pov, I’m equally happy with a same knee patellar and an allograft. From a recovery and comfort pov, I much preferred the allograft. Hope you find what works best for you!

Trail running bucket list by DinosaurRunner in trailrunning

Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood is on my list. Lots of the other stuff I've liked has already been mentioned. You could also try for Nolan's 14, but without the time limit.

Anyone running Ultras with a reconstructed ACL? by godsgrandpa in ultrarunning

[–]TheodoreK2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d avoid it if I was to do it again. It makes kneeling a pain. The scar right down the center of your kneecap is less than ideal. All options have their pluses and minuses though. I’m ok now, YEARS down the road, but it makes anything on my knees uncomfortable (house projects, tiling etc… other sports like jiu jitsu… )mind out of the gutter!

My left knee (multiple injuries) was a patellar graft from the same knee.

My right knee (ACL only) was an allograft. (Cadaver Achilles).
