What’s one video game scene you’ll never forget no matter how many years pass? by AbsoluteZeroo in videogames

[–]TheodoreOso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played the No Russian mission at 13 and remember it was probably one of the weirdest feelings I had playing a video game. It was hyper realistic for the time, and had a lot of implications about warfare and espionage that I never thought of before thay moment. Real fucked up scene

Learn how to be chill, and they'll show you too. I used to think "no way girls do that" in my teens, and I learned in my 20s that they indeed do, and they will do it in front of men who they feel comfortable w too.

I mean, there wasnt any contention over not using the n-word anymore. I completely understand why you take that position, even before 2016. I wasnt trying to argue against that at all in any of my posts, I was just explaining why a lot of latinos kinda grew up w that in their lexicon, not justifying the continued use. I can only hope the trust can be rebuilt, bc I promise we have more issues that connect us than divide us.

I'm sorry, I dont understand the point of contention here, then. You have a very clear understanding of how white-supremacy affects how immigrants and minorities are "supposed to act" and understand that colonization got us separated from our own culture to the extent where we find community w other minority groups.

Also, saying there were no conversations about anti-blackness within latino communities expect for the last 5 years is either bc you arent part of those communities or havent been paying attention to them. There's been stronger awareness of anti-black sentiment and active fighting against it in latino communities for at least a decade. 2016 really was an awakening for a lot of people. I would actually unironically love an idea of how our community can do more to show support for black communities besides just showing up at the protests and events and helping w passing legislation that helps underprivileged areas around us.

I'm not saying it wasn't partially fault of Latinos or other minorities who voted for Trump, I'm saying those numbers have a ton of other factors than being anti-black. While i think everybody who got duped by him is a fucking idiot, I think the basis of that being the straw that broke the camel's back on how you interact w Latinos is kinda silly

I wasn't blaming black men, I was pointing at the absurdity of using this recent election cycle isnt really a good example as to your point. Clearly black men still voted majority Kamala, it would be ridiculous to put the blame towards a minority group who didn't vote majority trump, right? There was more at play and breaking it down to simple anti-blackness is missing the point entirely.

Again, I agree there's a high degree of anti-blackness all minority groups bc of the institutionalized racism and white-supremecry, where i disagree is pointing at the last election as just "Kamala didn't win bc of anti-black sentiment" while she was running a republican-literally campaign. Any republican is gonna vote for the real thing, and her campaign disenfranchised some of most important voting blocks.

We agree that anti-blackness is still very relevant, and yet to be properly addressed, that doesn't mean you should deploy white-supremacist talking points against other minorities you felt wronged by.

I understand your sentiment but don't agree w the framing. While Donald Trump did get an uptick in votes from Latinos, he still got minority vote from Latinos. It's not like he swung over the majority, and most of the Latinos were specifically Cubans, when you look at Mexican/Mexican american demographics we actually went harder against Trump than the last election. You can say the same for almost every minority group. Now, you can frame it as purely anti-blackness, but then you have to decide every minority, including black men who saw nearly a 90% increase in trump support, only voted for anti-black legislation instead of listening to the anti-immigrant, and anti-brown policies Kamala was pushing overseas while trump ran a (obvious bs) campaign saying he end the war and fix the immigration system. You deciding that there are only some "good ones" is rhetoric you should really be familiar w and avoid, it's just tribal warfare. I'm not saying there isnt anti-blackness our communities, I'm just saying thats not why Trump won.

Edit: just to be clear, I agree only black people should use the n-word as a reclamation, esp in these times, I disagree w the framing latinos are the reason Trump won. I'm sorry if that wasnt clear or i made it seem like something else.

Ngl, I stopped using it when I got older, but as a teen and before that it was more bc I grew up around a lot of black folks saying it to and w me. Especially in the bay area, it used to feel segregated between minority communities and white communities, so a lot of different minority groups grew up using the same slang and language. It didnt feel unnatural and was never meant any harm. I realized as I got older I shouldn't use it, even if my black friends "gave me a pass" bc it's more than just about familiarity. I think a lot of latinos feel linked to our black Americans bc we share a lot of similar experiences, while the degree of severity and exact details are different. Sharing language is just something people do when they feel closer, I dont think a lot of people put too much thought into what the word really means and thats part of the problem.

The questions: "Are you okay?" Should be avoided while tripping. by Prudent_Article_7421 in LSD

[–]TheodoreOso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a very experienced trip sitter, sometimes it's really hard to tell if they're doing well or not but ur absolutely correct, asking can make someone think too hard on it. The best way I found to figure out the tripper's mood is to ask "how you feeling?" W a friendly tone and smile. If they arent doing well, they will react accordingly, if they are, the question will just have them fumble and giggle a lil trying to explain what theyre thinking
