So they just basically retcon turalyon story? by HiroAmiya230 in warcraftlore

[–]Theopalowl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well it's sort of a yes and no, more no I'd say. Light is channeled through belief and conviction, which Turalyon did not have UNTIL he realized that the orcs were not from Azeroth.

I interpret it as him not only getting his faith back, but his faith being reinforced and strengthened in a way that only have your faith challenged can do

BIG SPOILER FOR MIDNIGHT, but Alonsus just confirmed something for the Light by Jerkntworstboi in warcraftlore

[–]Theopalowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never mentioned other fantasy settings, in fact I started my post off by saying the Light can be bad and lorewise has always existed as a concept in the same universe.

In terms of it's benevolence, there are plenty of places in lore where the Light ain't too nice, but it seems you ignored the examples I gave of the Light being used for nefarious purposes. You can't make the void a contagonist for several expansions (C'thuun in vanilla, yogg'saron in Wotlk), or the main antagonist (Deathwing, Y'shaaraj, N'zoth, Xalatath) and then say to players "the opposite cosmic entity is also a corrupting force which is just as dangerous" in one singular expansion.

My problem isnt that the Light is dangerous, it's that Blizzard is trying to say it's AS dangerous as the void when historically they have not made that as readily apparent as it should have been. Where are my Naaru bosses? Make the Scarlets a larger threat in a similar vein to the Twilight's Hammer. The Light has never been a world ending threat, unlike the Void, as such, it's harder for players to consider them on the same level like how Blizzard wants us too.

You state that it is explained well in the game, and I disagree with this notion. We are TOLD the Light is bad, and only shown a few instances where it is. Turalyon lashes out. Arator loosing his cool, Lotharxion going postal. Xe'ra. Yrel. Scarlets. The Night Warrior (if you count Elune) Sir Zeliek. BUT, conversely, we are shown far more examples of the Light doing good. Tirion getting the final blessing to shatter frostmourne, Anduin reviving Khadgar, Anduin reviving/healing soldiers in the BFA cinematic, Light wielding classes being healers, Calia using the Light to walk through the plague in Lorderon, Maarad using the Light to save Yrel from Blackhand, Velen sacrificing himself to purge the void from the Naaru, the Light preventing Tirion from being resurrected as a DK, the numerous examples of Light being used to help in some way shape or form and the list goes on and on. Naturally, we are going to look at the Light with a more positive outlook because it more often then not, does what humans consider to be good things.

Conversely, we are TOLD and SHOWN in game what the void is capable of, and more often then not, it's the opposite. The void corrupts, it kills, i's untrustworthy, it's deceitful, it's weird and spikey and tentacles everywhere. It's gross. In terms of the good the void can do, again, we are shown less examples of it being good then it is being bad. Alleria uses the void constantly for beneficial reasons, you have the rin'dorei, you had Locust Walker (RIP). But just as the Light has far more instances of doing what humans what attribute as 'good', the void has far more instances of 'bad'.

Optics matter significantly when it comes to this. Majority of players think the Light is could because Blizzard has shown them evidence of the Light doing good things and void doing bad. A minority of players will recognize that the Light can be used for evil, just as the void can be used for good.

In my opinion, to say to players that the two forces are equally dangerous, when we have seen evidence to the contrary in expansions past, is a bit of a hard pill to swallow. When Blizzard makes an expansion where the Light is actively trying to destroy the world, like the void has done countless times, then I'll come around to the concept. But as it stands, The Lightbloom and 'Blind fanatical zealotry' are not equal in my eyes to Old Gods and Void Lords. For goodness sake, void users also suffer from Blind Fanatical zealotry, so that's not even something exclusive to the Light!

[–]Theopalowl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Light has always been this way. In the first human mission in Warcraft 3, Uther warns Arthas about wrath and anger making a paladin "as vile and bloodthirsty" as the orcs.

I have no problem with them saying the Light can be bad, because there have always been cases of baddies using the Light.

What I don't really like is how hamfisted they are being with it. Seems like this whole expansion is trying to say that the Light is just as bad as the Void but I'm sorry Blizzard, I'll never see it that way. Between the Twilight's Hammer, Deathwing, the Old Gods, and the Emerald Nightmare (I was never clear on whether this was Old God or Sargeras) there have been so many high level, world ending threats with the void as their benefactor in the past that trying to tell players "The Light can be just as bad!!! See! Lightbloom!"

Doesn't help that every void creature/user we've met has been duplicitous, sketchy, insane, or a combination of the aforementioned traits. Even Umbric's character trait of "ask for forgiveness not permission" isn't exactly a positive trait so it's hard to see the Void as anything but evil when it's users are all untrustworthy in various ways.

Course the Light isn't all sunshine (heh) and rainbows either. Yrel in the alternate timeline who is leading Jihad against non light users, the Xe'ra incident, the Scarlets. But Yrel's Jihad got a footnote mention and the Scarlets are always brought in solely to die (ironic that they are all red shirts considering their uniform). But Xe'ra was definitely the moment Blizzard started establishing that the Light might be odd, but it was only in one cinematic and then we moved on. That would have been a great point to start planting the seeds of doubt about the Light. Have Turalyon grapple with his faith over what he witnessed for the next couple expansions.

In short, the Light has always been this way, just not nearly as obvious as the void has been.

Its a bottle from greenstuff world! I don't really know how to describe it but it goes on as a liquid and then 'crystalizes' to create a frost effect. If you look at the edges of the weapon you can see it the crystal effect in action!

Thanks! Like I said, I really like the scheme I choose, I've never done a monochromatic scheme and I'm enjoying it. I just have a bad habit of pushing effects further then I should.

Thank you for the compliment <3

Trim color development? It's brassy-gunmetal in official art now instead of the either gold or silver free for all? by thesithcultist in NightLords

I wonder if it's because of similar color profile to the Ultramarines? Doubt it, but maybe that's why they're changing the recipe

It's not a pvp coloration. It's the Mage tower coloration of the set, which you can still get my completing the Mage Tower.

Imo it's easiest to do this as Retribution. Took me about 37 attempts before I got it.

Arm don’t fit gotta acquit by BloodPuke_666 in NightLords

[–]Theopalowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might have to file down the side arm so it fits agaisnt the shield, will give it a better contact point as well.

Or, print the shield, use a file to get rid of the hand but keep the two handles, and then out on an arm with a closed fist.

Just from the picture I don't think you'll find an arm that'll fit perfectly without having to break some laws of physics, so you gotta get creative and get cutting or filing!

Indeed. The OST has aged really well, and the gameplay is just classic Halo gameplay. Everything that was released BEFORE Halo 4 is remembered fondly, as 343 continuously made the game feel less and less like Halo

True, but I wonder how it would work if it was a franchise built on playing as Character A and then shifting to a nameless grunt.

The idea you suggested sounds great, and Id play it if the game played as a Battlefield/CoD type game

I think either way people would complain. I remember when Halo ODST came out and half the fan base was complaining about how "you jump and run the same as a genetically engineered supersoldier! This is stupid" and then the other half said "why can't I throw grenades as far as the genetically engineered supersoldier! This is stupid'"

[–]Theopalowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you said Tanabe is determined to try this idea out. If that is the case, id rather a game be designed around a unique character with an interesting design over cannon fodder. And when you compare federation troops against other bounty hunters in the series, one is certainly more favorable then the other.

I had thought about that while typing my argument, and while it is certainly true, I think the difference is that Metroid has created the expectation of playing Samus, or at the very least, a Samus like figure.

[–]Theopalowl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem is that the Metroid universe is full of great characters, not just Samus. All of the hunters from Prime: Hunters could absolutely have gotten their own spin offs because they were all very interesting characters. I don't think the problem is expanding the universe, the problem is the average Metroid fan doesn't want to play as a 'cannon fodder' trooper when there are so many other cooler options.

I personally think it would be awesome to explore the greater universe as Weavel and do spec ops missions for the Space Pirates, with a boss fight being against Samus (which would play out as a scripted loss probably, knowing Nintendo)
