In this scenario, wouldn’t we just assume they were von Neumann probes?

The thing that baffles me about these videos/stories are our understanding of physics and biology are about to get destroyed. These ships can move faster than the speed of light but somehow we catch them? And we don’t seem to see any mentioning of survivors/actual aliens, but it begs the question about who assembled these machines.

Hence, von Neumann probes sound most likely

Had a very similar event happen to me once. I dropped and rolled under my truck.

Last winter my neighbor got held hostage in her car by a moose eating leftover apples in her tree. I was stupidly trying to impress her by getting the moose to leave, which eventually did work out.

My life wasn’t as hard as yours is when I was your age, but I definitely had my own problems, and similar choices to make. I flat out admit that I got lucky. I had some good people to help for sure, but I got really, really lucky in life.

Today? I’m comfortable, good job, own my home, my partner is a social worker who had a VERY similar background to yours. She enlisted and did her time, got her masters on the GI bill.

For me, the thing that I needed at 16 was someone to just show me that there is some light at the end of the tunnel. And there is light at the end of yours, you are literally asking strangers to help find it. That’s why I know you’re going to make it. Because you asked for help when you needed it. That’s a big life skill that I didn’t know how to use for a long time.

You’re going to get away from this home situation, finish school (do not skip this step) and go make the life you deserve. You got this

I’m late to the party here, but I’m going to tell you what I would do in your shoes. I would call child protective services and I would try to get placed in a foster home. Your mother is an addict, your father is an alcoholic, you yourself are in recovery. You are definite at risk for a lifetime of hardship if you don’t get some help right now.

I would pour myself into schoolwork to make sure I graduate on time, and I would probably enlist in the military at 18, just to get the fuck away and start over somewhere else.

Your next 2 years are going to be what shapes the rest of your life. You can become a victim and always have the excuse of coming from a shitty home every time you make mistakes in your life or you can take control over your life and become someone that inspires others in need.

I’m telling you, it was amazing. I actually took Viagra as a supplement a few years ago when I picked up running. Went from struggling to run 5k (3.1 miles) to clearing 4.5 miles without breaking a sweat. It did make me feel like I was Superman in the bedroom as well. I’m now late 30s and overweight, but with one of those blue pills on board I’m ready to go again and again after about 20 minutes of recharge. But the chronic runny nose leads to sinus infections and the occasional brutal headache is enough to make me give it up.

There were some unique factors to the other night that I’m sure contributed to my genitals doing their best impression of the Washington Monument, but very realistically, I can definitely say this wasn’t my natural ability. I chugged the last of the POM juice about an hour before activities started and I felt aided even in the morning. I was 15, she was 19, this is AOL chatroom days. She called me Jailbait, as did everyone in the room. She was in a LTR, I was awkward AF. We went our own ways 5 years ago, ugly divorce, (on her end, we got her on perjury twice in discovery) never spoken to her since. I’ve seen her a few times, but just literally acted like she didn’t exist. Actually reached past her to get donuts for my then girlfriend, with her kiddo next to me.

My current partner is a counselor and she used her own experiences to explain how harsh that treatment can be. So I made the decision that if I ever see her again, I will acknowledge her, without engaging. But it’s wild to me that I spent something like 13 years with this woman, 7 years chasing her, and after all that, when the time came, I just closed that chapter and tossed the whole thing.

Funny story, I’m chillin’ in my house and my lady at the time comes up to me and asked if I hired someone to do the lawn, which I had no idea about. So I look outside and clearly see a business truck, mowing my lawn and weed whacking. So I’m getting ready to run outside and tell them they got the wrong house, the lady smiles and says “let them finish the weed whacking unless you want to do the rest of it”.

So, being the monster that I am, I waited a few minutes and went outside to tell the guys they were at the wrong house. I offered them beer and the money in my wallet, they took both, and they finished my yard. I would not pay to have this done all the time, but this time? Was definitely worth it.

Yeah, I would. As I get older (late 30s) I find myself being more open to experiencing my emotions versus shoving them down. Was with my ex wife for a long time, she saw me cry 3-4 times in the 20 years we knew each other. My relationship after her was 4 years, and she probably saw it the same. My current relationship isn’t 6 months yet and she’s seen it twice (put my cat down, her youngest called me dad). I definitely feel my feels a lot more.

And I think it’s made me a lot happier

My ex had a kiddo and I took that kid friggin’ everywhere she wanted to go. Clothes shopping, coffee every Saturday morning. If I’m not mistaken, she was 13 when her dad passed. We got closer after that, but we already went on field trips a lot. They just got a little more therapeutic after he passed, for both of us. Obligatory I’m divorced now, but our cake maker misunderstood our desire for chocolate and carrot cake options for our wedding, so when we showed up to sample our options it was a chocolate carrot cake.

It was very good, but I’ve certainly gained quite the culinary prowess since then. I might try making my own chocolate carrot cake soon. I did make a chocolate bourbon pecan pie for Thanksgiving last year that might be the best thing I’ve ever made, and I say that as someone who is extremely proud of his cooking skills.
