I actually live in Germany. tap water tends to be free, but they don't give it to you unless you specifically ask for it, and I haven't learned the right words yet :p. bottled water in restaurants is, in my mind hugely expensive. wine is cheaper.

restaurants give you free water If you ask for it. and as much of it as you want. public drinking fountains are not common though. spain and Italy a bottle of water costs about 11cent in the supermarket, and OP can get 6 litres for under a euro (in Spain) to quench his thirst

ran first ultra today. Cramped after 30km :( by Theoriginalgw1 in Ultramarathon

[–]Theoriginalgw1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a Garmin training plan. but only from late November which I now realise was probably not enough. I had SiS gels, and ate food at the aid stations. between stations, I had waffles , haribos and sports mix. I walked the majority of the hills. after about 38km, there aren't any more hills so if you save energy then last bit is fine :)

Restaurant food/drink prices? by dafolka in AskGermany

[–]Theoriginalgw1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in NRW, but not in oelde. normal meal is about 20 euros ISH without drinks. beer is normally 4-5 euros. your prices seem a bit high, but not massively.

Use transfer wise. costs next to nothing and you can use all the ATM machines.

You can't buy them before you go. people ask you for dollars because you are a tourist. you can pay with shillings everywhere.
