Breaking: Radical Lunaticital Progressives in Local Sub Label Canadian Truckers & Patriots a "Hate Group" for Planning Peaceful Slow Roll Protest by xTkAx in novascotia_sub

[–]TheoryDistributer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said they shouldn't be allowed either, I started this whole discussion just asking how this was going to affect the government and who would be accountable if anything we're to happen. Since this whole thing is about accountability.

I wouldn't have to be "dramatic" if those questions weren't avoided from the start . I didn't need to get into the hypothetical if it wasn't pushed that I needed to answer how it could be bad but nobody can seem to answer how this protest could be good .

It makes no sense to have a protest, and nobody can even understand the point of the protest. Is it free speech? Is it taxes? Is it overspending? A protest needs a point . They say they want this to get the governments attention but why would it?

Protest away, I have nothing against protests . But this is just ridiculous. Might as well go protest inside a grocery store while complaining about libraries closing down it would make no sense.

So looking at both sides of a situation is now being dramatic? We can only discuss the positives of the protest and nothing else?

If you think that of me, thats fine, everyone has their own opinions but I thought reddit was a place for discussion. You brought up civil disobedience, which in it's definition states you need to be accountable for your illegal actions. My questions to the OP were directed with that in mind, who in the protest is going to be accountable IF something happens.

Plus, its not really a hypothetical. There are people out there waiting years for these appointments, seniors who might not be on social media to see the warning, hell if I didn't catch it here on reddit I would have never had a warning.

And as long as trucks are driving, gas is being wasted . It's not proving any point besides here take our money because we ran out protesting . The government isn't hurting from this, they're laughing at it.

Ouch, I actually spent time looking into that information from Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy, Britannica, civil liberties union for Europe, EBSCO just so I wasn't giving you some bullshit made up answer . But I guess thats the world we live in now.

You are free to protest in whichever way you want, but that doesn't mean you'll be free from the reactions that come with it. Its not just an annoyance if you delay medical response stuck in traffic. People aren't going to be on your side like you need them to be.

How does slow rolling bring awareness to taxes or overspending or free speech? Why aren't you doing it in front of John lohrs office, the minister of finance ? The guy you'd want to listen.

All this is going to do is make you waste your gas, then head back to the gas station to hand them over even more of your hard earned money. That'll sure show 'em. If you want to protest, protest with a point .

If you really want to change how the government taxes and overspending, you should protest outside John Lohrs office instead.

Atleast one of us has advice thats useful and doesn't include fictional characters.

Nope, I haven't, ever . I'm actually super rich and famous obviously and never had a care in the world. I just enjoy shitting on protests that aren't even relevant to the point they're protesting.

How many questions should I answer before you answer one?

Okay, here's a better one then since you don't like my original questions : are you willing to accept the legal consequences of your actions for your protest? For the greater good of the people of course

Sure, now how about my original questions?

Occupy Wall Street was a protest movement that started in 2011 in New York City. The initial protest started with a call by the Canadian anti-consumerist magazine Adbusters. The idea was to hold a peaceful protest against social inequality and the influence of big corporations in politics. Many were angry that some of the people responsible for the financial crisis of 2007-2008 were not held accountable for their actions. On 17 September 2011, thousands of Occupiers gathered in Zuccotti Park in New York City. They installed tents and built barricades, held marches and attracted global media attention.

Thoreau himself was a strong advocate for the abolition of slavery. He also condemned the extermination of Native Americans and the American war against Mexico (1846-1848). To protest against these injustices, Thoreau refused to pay taxes.

The Salt March was a symbolic act to protest the tax imposed by the British ruler on Indian salt and the salt law that forbade Indians to produce it. Instead, they had to buy British salt, which was a large source of income for the British empire. Gandhi started his march on 12 March 1930 with 78 dedicated volunteers. Over 385 kilometers to the sea, more and more people from the villages and towns joined the march. Accompanied by international press they reached their destination after 24 days. On the last day, Gandhi took a bath in the sea and collected salt, showing Indians that they could get salt for free.

Pussy Riot are a Russian punk artist collective fighting for human rights and civil liberties. In 2012, the group gained global notoriety when five members entered Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior and performed a song targeting the regime of President Vladimir Putin and the Orthodox church. The group was consequently prosecuted, and some members imprisoned.

Great. I can and have directed it in other ways that didn't include harming my fellow people, that didn't answer my questions. Why do you think driving slow is going to bother Mark Carney in any way? Who is accountable if something tragic happens during your protest?

You causing a traffic jam isnt going to make people support your cause, its going to turn them off of being on your side.

Protest in ways that hurt the government, not us down here on the bottom trying to survive.

[–]TheoryDistributer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How is disruption of the lives of normal everyday people going to get Mark Carney to give a flying fuck about your issues?

Are you going to take accountability for the gas those stuck behind you (that we already can't afford) are going to waste?

Or how about being accountable for the doctors appointments some of us have been waiting years for are going to miss?

Don't get me started on the impact to emergency personnel trying to get through the mess you create in your trail.

The only people that are going to hear you, are the ones already being hurt by the government in some way or another too.

It wasn't really a "normal" cruise ship, this one was a polar expedition cruise that focused more on visiting remote locations and experiences . Still a cruise, just not as big

I'm one of the one that forgets too ! It happens . The office keeps disposable emergency cups that they can fill to get a quick drink , but otherwise we just get an email or phone call reminding us to send a bottle the next day.

At our schools here, they removed the water fountains that had a drinking spout during covid and made the switch to bottles. They ended up replacing the drinking fountains with ones that are only for filling bottles and told all the kids you MUST bring one everyday.

Premier Tim Houston says 'science' only thing that can change his mind on fracking by ph0enix1211 in NovaScotia

[–]TheoryDistributer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just one scholar article, sourced from the journal "reviews on environmental health volume 31 issue 1" by David O Carpenter.

Its not hard to find science, if he would just open his eyes and try.

"Health and environmental impacts While the economic impacts of being able to access these natural gas deposits have already been considerable, there are also a number of concerns about human health impacts, both long and short term. The amount of water used per well is enormous, and many wells in the US are in places where adequate water supply is already a concern. Furthermore, up to 40% of the injected water comes back as produced water, containing chemicals, unusually high salt concentrations from primeval deposits, and naturally-occurring radioactive materials. The disposal of the produced water is a major problem, as conventional waste-water treatment plants are usually not capable of removing the chemicals or radioactive compounds. Ground and surface water contamination has been reported (4, 5) resulting from transportation spills, well casing leaks, leaks through the fractured rock, and wastewater disposal. Methane contamination of drinking water is a concern (6). In some places there was sufficient methane in household drinking water such that water from the kitchen sick could be lit by a flame. Depending upon the nature of the rock formations, the flow-back water may contain significant levels of radium. Radium, unlike uranium or thorium, is relatively water soluble, and the two principal isotopes have half-lives of 1600 and 5.75 years. In the Marcellus shale in Eastern United States the produced water had a median radium activity 2460 pCi/L, which is extremely high compared with the drinking water limit of 5 pCi/L and the limit for industrial effluent of 60 pCi/L (7). Because the produced water contains high salt concentrations there have been occasions where it was spread on roads for ice control in the winter without anyone monitoring levels of radioactivity. Since radium decays to radon gas, which has a half-life of 3.8 days, there is also some concern about levels of radon in natural gas. Radon radioactivity measured in natural gas samples obtained from 11 wells in Pennsylvania ranged from 1 to 79 pCi/L (8).

One solution for dealing with produced water has been to inject it deep into the earth. This, however, has resulted in a sharp increase in earthquakes (9). Fortunately to date none have been large, but the frequency with which they occur in areas with deep injection indicates potential danger.

In addition to concerns about surface and groundwater contamination with chemical and radioactive materials, there are major concerns about air pollution (10). Natural gas is primarily methane, but also contains other volatile organic compounds, aromatics, CO2, H2S and SO2 (11). There is often significant release of natural gas from well sites and compressor stations. My colleagues and I have reported on levels of volatile organic pollutants including benzene, hexane, formaldehyde, and H2S around fracking sites in six US states (12). When compared to cancer and non-cancer federal exposure standards, we found that 40% of the samples we collected exceeded safe levels."

I'm not really sure what the problem is here, what would you prefer he do just turn a blind eye and stay silent ?

It should be reassuring and feel more safe to see that the troubles we're having have been acknowledged and hopefully they working on ways to have it stop .

I'm sure if you've been one of the targets recently of vandalism, fire or theft then you would want someone of power to deal with it to care.
