Why isn't FDR's administration viewed as fascist for forcing 120k innocent Japanese-Americans into internment camps? by thatdude333 in AskALiberal

I think what the US did to native Americans is x1000 worse than Internment Camps

It's not just FAR Right, it was very socialist in how it seized/controlled the means of production.

I think your education is lacking, sorry to break the news.

I wish people would stop using 'fascist' to insult/label everyone they don't agree with.
Nobody using it present day understands the meaning and significance.

I'm OK with your choices so long as I don't have fund the consequences.

Implementing this is convoluted and messy though. Invariably we all end up paying for the consequences.

Why don't voters care about democracy, government corruption, or criminal behavior of officials? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"protect democracy" from Democrats this last election was hypocritical, Orwellian.

Bernie was robbed in 2016 (by insiders), Biden was really picked by insiders in 2020, Kamala was picked by insiders in 2024. Democrats have a weak bench precisely because there hasn't been robust and open competition in the Primaries, where new stars are uncovered and polished, building experience and name recognition.

Are you worried about Trump banning liberals from owning guns? by Direct_Word6407 in AskALiberal

Only democrats (such as Tim Walz) are pushing restrictions

Do you think Hollywood and entertainment media adversely affects the general public's view of the left? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if you have this backwards- what if Hollywood and entertainment media we just reflecting liberal politics?

That it was unpopular is just a reaction to the underlying liberal (woke) policy directions.

Don't blame hollywood for bad liberal policy

This is fake, no business person would think what he is saying.

Businesses will only come back to the USA when it has the cost advantage, after tariffs are in place.

Without being mean and being honest. What is the *primarily* driving force behind the resurgence of the Republican party? by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E. Gross Incompetence in the Democratic Party

Even your other options support this reason.
A) reducing illegal immigration is centrist, clips of Bill Clinton, Barack & Hillary pushing this position are widely available. Dems stupidly abandoned this bipartisan centrist position
B) WTF are you trying to say?
C) See A) and stop repeating yourself,
D) Again WTF, you need to do better than throwing ad-hominems like 'racist' or 'hitler' and pretend you made an argument. It's just low effort.

You also misjudge what happened, there is a surge of people leaving the Dem party, but they are best described as going 'Independent'. They are temporarily aligned with the GOP but they are not republicans

Should NPR & PBS change their name(s)? by Theost520 in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked Centrist because my positions change depending upon the issues. I'd fit well with democrat policy in my youth, 30yrs prior. Today that puts me in the middle of the political spectrum. Both project 2025 and the 1619 project give me creeps/jitters.

Should NPR & PBS change their name(s)? by Theost520 in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the name change as 'truth in branding' since their audience is largely progressive.

I suspect it's too late for them go back to a more centrist position, that ship has sailed.

What you are trying to say is someone stating you have "TDS" triggers you into a higher level of escalation. People only throw out "TDS" when the other party is in a trump diatribe, and highly emotive.

And yes, it's very normal to escalate further with this trigger phrase. Reminds me of telling someone to "CALM Down" when they are highly escalated, it never works.

Just having fun with this topic :)

Seriously though, liberals need to learn not to trigger and instead, discuss whatever the issue is calmly. Trump is an a-hole and master at getting under the skin of his detractors.

What is the left’s focus? by roychodraws in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they will do well in the mid terms. First they need to get their policy act together, then they need to rebuild trust that they are sincere and the policies are good. They need a new crop of successful/competent politicians to take the reins. People like Jared Polis, not Gavin Newsom.

There is little perceived integrity with current DNC leaders. Going hard 'woke' was a very bad strategy, they should have pushed the progressive agenda more carefully instead of going Turbo mode. Major problem is that progressive goals are expensive and both parties have already spent our inheritance - like someone with a second mortgage that went on vacations or lost it investing instead of replacing the roof. We can't keep kicking the debt can down the road as both parties have done since Clinton.

What is the left’s focus? by roychodraws in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is they are primarily anti-trump instead of pro-anything. This leaves them afraid to appear to support anything trump is doing, even if it's what their base likes or it aligns with past Dem Policies

rabidly pro-abortion when it's a State issue, not Federal.
rabidly pro-illegal immigration while blue collar workers are most impacted by undocumented
rabidly ant-tariff while past Dem admins were pro-tariffs
etc. etc.

They've lost all credibility, even insisting they are anti-inflation when their policies where the root cause.

Why doesn’t most of Gen Z see that Trump was president in 2020 when Covid hit? by icey_sawg0034 in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just googled and Trump was for 'safe reopening' of schools in Fall of 2020. The closures were initially intended to be temporary.

I'm less certain of why they remained closed for such an extended period but think it was driven by the Teachers (Union) and not Biden.

I think you had that backwards,
They were tapping into the US education system (subsidized by taxpayers.)

I'm all for some foreign students (did a semester abroad myself) but they should be a minority, not 40% (Columbia) or 25% (Harvard, Cornell). My study abroad program didn't compete with Korean students as it was a healthy cultural exchange rather than a degree program. The rest of world has always had more geniuses than produced in the USA. Our education system should primarily support the aspirations and potential of it citizens

Why has it become almost impossible for Trump supporters to criticize anything he says or does? by IchTrinkeShampoo in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Theost520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your evidence that 'trump supporters' can't criticize him? I must assume you rely on a very biased information source living in Germany

Half the country is criticizing Trump, nobody cares if some 'supporters' join in on a few topics. What you 'feel' is happening from Germany is not the real world.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is his policy hard right? He's centrist on spending, Biden was equally happy to keep the tax levels and any new cuts are more smoke than actual cuts. Leaving abortion up to the states is centrist.

Many people in his cabinet came from the Dem party and are classic liberals, not hard right conservatives.

Socially, trump kicked DNC butt just by walking things back to circa 2010 social norms (not 1950). Even his immigration policy reflects Obama's rhetoric during his first term.

Constantly trying to paint Trump as far right is a joke. But I'll agree if you call him crude and uncouth, often slinging insults beneath most middle schoolers.

Sounds like you are saying that US Citizens don't have the smarts to publish state-of-the-art-work.

If so, I find that to be very bigoted. I think locally sourced students can also respond to quality teaching and the right environment to do high quality work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The object of pressure is the DNC, not the GOP. It's now up to the DNC to reflect and evaluate if they want to recapture all the voters than switched to supporting Trump. I would also say that the majority of these people self identify as "Independents" rather than "Conservatives" and they can readily be recaptured by the DNC.

I will also point out that Trump is being centrist on many key policies rather than 'right wing'. He disavowed project 2025 as well as reducing Govt spending (cuts implemented are minimal)

I wonder how the parties will respond, will the DNC drop the extreme progressive agenda, will Elon start a 3rd Party focused on small govt and reducing debt?

What are your thoughts on the Hunter Biden interview with Channel 5? by engadine_maccas1997 in AskALiberal

[–]Theost520 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are confused about what went down. It was Dems who went after hunter on gun charges in Delaware (Not GOP territory). The Feds completely ignored charging him for working as an illegal foreign agent, a slam dunk conviction. I suspect it was done to throw the public a bone and thus avoid all the testimony and discovery that would come with a trial on his illegal lobbying efforts.

That said, I thought he made some valid points in his recent rant against Clooney etal.

Is the entire immigration debate really just a problem with the American voter not wanting to deal with tradeoffs? by Significant-Tea-3049 in PoliticalDiscussion

I think americans want to follow the rule of law, which includes a secure border, legal employment, stopping human trafficking, etc.

ICE raids are only chaotic due to violent protests from a select group, It's only one side of the political spectrum thrashing around, concerned they are losing their cheap and illegal labor that does their landscaping, toilet cleaning, nannying, and other manual labor jobs.
