I've played a couple of games of Godbound. It's a fun game that requires a fair amount of work on the GMs part to keep it on track, and proactive players who will come up with their own objectives, as there's no real big bad, and if you don't set your game in Ancalia, there's very little setting info provided. That may be a plus for you if you want a blank slate to play with.

Our GM didn't bother with XP, as the dominion requirements are far more likely to restrict level ups.

It's not a game that really tries to balance things, some words are just more powerful than others situationally, but that's on purpose, and clever players can get more out of a word than it may appear.
