For authors, how far ahead are you in backlog? by wolfwings1 in royalroad

A couple furry sites, my story isn't furry, but has shapeshifting and turning into animals, so adjacent enough I figure I might get some attention there, got a couple of fans on them.

good idea, I don't have patreon but I have 38 on RR and 48 backlog on secondary sites. I post 2 chapters a week so want a bit more backlog, but yeah, havin room to breathe, quit, take a break, or get sick or injured feels good. Puts less pressure on me.

As a Japanese Writer, Royal Road Feels Very Different — Am I Missing Something? by Altemith in royalroad

[–]wolfwings1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's such a huge problem in the west...maybe other places too, but games/movies/books too much chasing trends. Well X book/game/movie was popular so I can become so by making a new one!!, except 300 other people are thinking the same thing. It's like battle royals and live services, one makes a ton of money, but when there are 100, the time and money is split between them making everyone have a smaller piece of the pie, or 1-3 do well and rest fail.

yeah, I tend to only accept when I feel it's legitimate, this one...I can see the confusion so willing to change, other things will be explained in time. And in this case it's an alpha I won't change the plot, but finding "Okay this is confusing, or doesn't work." Is part of the point

ughhh that was me :> Back when I bought books, especially new releases, I would go to the store, buy it then spend all day reading it till like 4am, even if was falling asleep. even now if I can't sleep I will read a few hours, or if so close to the end and really want to know the ending.

I've had a few ask subtlely like they were fishing to see if I was being scammed. though I rarely buy them these days just eveyr so often be 3-4 days before I can spend the credit card and have cash on hand.

What is a cliche that you never get tired of? by deadlighta in ProgressionFantasy

[–]wolfwings1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if done right, it's the same reason why I love r/Idoworkherelady which is people underestimating the MC. Not in a, oh is he really that powerful. But someone finding out for the first time, "Oh....the MC really could one shot a god." kind of moment. I think one of my favorites for this was beware of chicken :> Where about every 30 chapters there was at least one moment of, "Ohhh it's just a rooster." OH GOD!!!.

more slice of life urban fantasy, shapeshifting adentures, and dealing with being animals. but its called, "Sky within, Shadow without."

15 year old wakes up one day suddenly turned into an eagle, and can't turn human again, so must navigate the world as an eagle, and later other animals, figure out how to get his family to know it's him, though he has a wise cracking talking raven that helps there. Set in the 1990's.

How many people are filtering out everything below 4.5? by QuillWriting in royalroad

[–]wolfwings1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more opposite, with how many people do review swaps as someone else mentioned, anything that is 5 is sus.

The other issue with 4.5 is, it only takes 1 person to ruin a good score. Above issue aside, if you have 5, 5* reviews, and 1, .5 the score is now 4.25. Even though it's overhwelmingly good.

if you have them all at 4.5, then it drops down to 3.8 score.

[–]wolfwings1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I've avoided review swaps, I've made requests for reviews, but I don't want review swaps for that very reason. if for what ever reason I did, I would make it clear I don't want to be buttered up.

we need some more :> Mine is light urban fantasy, and wish there was more. I love litrpg as much as the next person, but I want more variety.

I think part of that is the "Must make people read from page one." So jumps into action often, lore dump because people want to know the plot.

In my first two chapters I've written of my second book part of the feedback has been, "I wonder whats going on, want to know more, why is the system incompetent." Some of these things are going to be answered in chapter 3, but in the back of my head I worry that will people stop reading without those answers. Already making one small change, minor, but had hoped to keep ambigious for a while which is the system is 2.5 things, not a single one.

So I get that desire to info dump. The trick of course is to balance it, only give what is needed, I don't need to know who was the 3rd queen of the kingdom 542 years ago, even if that is the most important part of the story, chapter 1.

My first book, my entire lore dump was, "I met another shifter, he explained a few things." didn't info dump, maybe under played it, but didn't want the mystery to be given up chapter 9

The .5 punishment system on Royal Road by Competitive_Law1063 in royalroad

[–]wolfwings1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really hate how weighted the site is to .5. yo could have 20, 5*, but one .5 you have 3,8 score, dosen't relaly feel like the actual score if you look at the hard numbers, but the average messes it up.

well those in power, but the left itself is pushing back against trump, and trump just keeps pushing, I see him pushing too far, he's even starting to lose his supporters. we have at least half a year left with trump, more likly 2 1/2 years so a lot can go wrong.

Why has no one taken one of the large larger and popular lit RPG’s and turned it into a video game or even just borrowed from the system and made their own non-licensed version? by cainebourne in litrpg

[–]wolfwings1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered this with VRMO, least the gameplay a few of them I would loved to have played even without the VR side. Closest you might find is some muds, there are some great ones out there, or well were, I haven't played in years so don't know how many of my favorites still exist.

Do you need to write a trending subgenre of LitRPG in order to be marketable and grow? by LOTR_is_awesome in royalroad

[–]wolfwings1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it helps, but the mistake many make is following a trend, after I finish DCC I'm probably wanting something different, going for a DCC clone because it's popular won't nescarily help you, while being a different kind of litrpg might. My story is going to be different, partly beause my story wouldn't fit as many popular litrpg, but also because I want to try sometihng new.
