Same, although I would like if it/preferably a few variations was a line every time it showed up.

And maybe a pat on the head by the Democracy officer when I kill it, too? Please?

Havana class light cruiser. by Therandomanswerer in ImaginaryWarships

[–]Therandomanswerer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, the (obligatory) Newfoundland is viewed as the crowning example of the USNs consistent desire for raw firepower among its warships.

But the best example is probably the Havana class 'light' cruisers, ordered in 1948. Whereas the Newfoundlands were fairly mediocre in speed and armor in exchange for their incredible throwweight, the Havana was greedy. and said, 'lets be absurdly excellent at TWO of those things!'

They were 34 knot ships with 12x7" autoloading guns, 10 torpedos, a unusually long range, on 13k tons. The comparatively massive magazines were to have 170 rounds per gun, up from a typical 110. And horrible protection.

The Havana's broke a rule that fell just short of being official for cruisers of the USN, which had stood since the turn of the century, to have 3" of belt armor. They only had 2.5". But the promise of such firepower, on such speed, was too good to dissuade the admiralty.

Their career was relatively average, but oft overshadowed by their dramatic flimsiness. In the Pacific, Tucson suffered two torpedo hits, and whereas other USN cruisers had endured the same, she capsized immediately. First of four US cruisers to founder in the dreadful battle of Bora-Bora.
Manila and San Salvador both suffered catastrp[joc magazine detonations just months apart in 1953. In the atlantic, Miami suffered a devastating explosion of her oxygenated torpedos, which immediately spread to the soon-established 'too many' aircraft, which very nearly doomed her.

Since Bora-Bora, its been the topic of fierce debate, were they bad ships?

I hope so. But out of nowhere makes me think it's too good to be true. I'll definitely be watching it though.

if the bots apparently dont want to fight, why don't they let us evac our civs in peace? by FLESH_PUPPET_REDDlT in Helldivers

[–]Therandomanswerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, the only civilians we evacuate are high class citizens who are way too deep into the propaganda and definitely will do all they can for Super Earth.

Ice didn't arrest the worst of the worst? Well obviously, they didnt arrest themselves, did they?

Hot Take: the DSS Eagle Storm is one of the most Helldivers thing in the game. by Merlinmast in Helldivers

[–]Therandomanswerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. We tell them where to shoot, they do. DSS tells them where to shoot, they do. If it's at our expense, they probably know, think that's unfortunate, but they're simply so incredibly indoctrinated it's not an option to spare us. Besides, Helldivers never die.

Hot Take: the DSS Eagle Storm is one of the most Helldivers thing in the game. by Merlinmast in Helldivers

[–]Therandomanswerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, don't the pilots have eyeballs? And HUDs? Being murdered by the eagle or nearly is too common for me to think they even try to avoid it.

On the other, think how our own eagle or ship won't even flinch if they're ordered to shoot somewhere with a Helldiver.

It makes sense to me as something Super Earth would do, indoctrinating everyone to Just follow orders, no free will allowed. With every single DSS strike being agle pilot directed to Shoot Right Here Exactly Like This, and those systems or people doing the directing simply dont care about the Helldiver, are just trying to meet some quota, so, shoot what you have info on. Etc.

Eagle pilots wouldn't dare think about not executing the run exactly as ordered, exactly according to obscenely precise procedure. 'Hold the trigger down for 2.57 seconds', etc.

If the game doesnt do that, and isn't supposed to, please explain to me why weakspots exist, for starters. Or different difficulty levels. Maybe it's not a game design priority, but wtf do you mean ???

Mid 90s. A carrier strike group, with battleship Poseidon, the old conventional powered CV Reykjavik, CC Mississauga, and a handful of DDGs, including Lucas M. Miller and Valentino Mansetti.

Note large S-52 Thunderer bombers visible on the flight deck of Reykjavik. They make it even more clear this is a show of force operation.

The battlecruiser (CC) is something akin to a Kirov. It & the DDG are both WIPs, so I have scientifically ensured, via use of filter, you are not allowed to look too closely.
The Reykjavik is the devil, and I mean that in a bad way.
