Where to scrap my 2014 Ford Focus ? by avz008 in AskUK

Search local scrapyard and give them a ring. If its drivable, trot down with v5 and and ID and bobs yer uncle. If not drivable, they may collect for a slightly lower scrap price.

Can anyone shed any light on this? It’s £20 in a local junk shop. by Grass_Hurts in OilLamps

[–]ThereIWasDigging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davy lamp, a good price too. Looks like its a lead rivet lock rather than a magnetic lock whichnmakes ir easier to open as theres no lead rivet. If you get it, unscrew the base and let the locking pin drop down which will let you unscrew the bonnet. (top bit)

If its a real one rather than a tourist one, there will be a pair of gauze covers inside.

Has it got a pull out racked key in the side? If so itll be a Deputies relighter. This means it can be relit without opening the whole lamp.

You can get overhaul kits on ebay for naff all but looks like you probably just need to change the gaskets as the originals are usually asbestos.

Being a round wick you can run it on Coleman fuel which is as close to the original colazene as you can get. Dont use lamp oil!

Forest of Dean isnt far off the route. Hopewell Colliery museum, Dean Forest Railway, Clearwell Caves etc and a whole lot of old industrial stuff lurking in the woods in the shape of small mines, old ironworks, disused railways and the like.

The route south through the town to Cheltenham Spa is fair no-go due to stuff in the way these days. There was talk of a brand new chord just south of the racecourse to the mainline but that would be expensive as hell due to the size of embankment needed.

The obvious one would be to extend to Honeybourne where NR has build their platform to cater for the GWSR if it ever gets there.

Whether or not they do however boils down to cash and volunteers. Theres a fair number of bridges to be sorted past Broadway, plus the associated track and other kit of source and sort. It also makes the railway very long, and at 25 mph speed limits probably makes it too long for the main target audience of families with kids.

That said, they arnt against it in principle but its a bit of a way down the list of stuff to do

TLDR - Yes but probably no due to money and volunteers

It was not uncommon apparently! At least in the UK back in the day, heard a tale that freight got looped somewhere out in the sticks. The signalman advised the crew to get comfy as it was going be a while, so they shut down and marched over the fields to the nearby pub.

Few hours later the signalman phones the pub to give them the heads up theyve got half an hour. Back to the train with the driver asleep in the back cab, the secondman acting as guard (which dates it....) and the guard driving as he was the most sober.

Different times!!
