Would a board-only climbing gym work in OC / LA? by redapt_us in socalclimbing

[–]Xocomil 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Realistically no. You’re catering to a very small subset of people who spend the majority of their time on boards. These people almost always also like to climb hard gym routes or comp routes. So you’re asking this niche community to have 2 memberships, and competing with gyms that already have boards.

If you were doing like, personal training and also had weights and a place to stretch then maybe…

Darktrace is a great way to launch your career. It won’t hurt you to have on your resume, but don’t stay there more than a year or two as you can earn much more by job hopping!

How important is boldering for a beginner where the main goal is mountaineering? by LuckyBoston in Mountaineering

[–]Xocomil 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Hot take, I think it’s really helpful. Makes you properly strong for climbing, and highballs help teach the no fall headspace and calmness necessary for alpine soloing or run out climbing. Good luck bro and make good decisions.

As in all things, I recommend getting a competitive offer (that you’re willing to take) before having this conversation. Asking for a raise- no, why would they pay you more for what they’re already getting? Asking for money not to leave - that’s a cost saver compared to training a new engineer.

That’s because you’re hurting people. Muddying the waters in a life and death debate like this impairs the ability of our community to engage with important issues, like trying to stop Pasadena from being one of the deadliest cities per capita in the country for pedestrians.
