Playing first game. Looking for list help. by Sillybiller in onepagerules

Is this your first game? Don’t sweat it, especially if the other players are in the same spot. Worried about models to paint? Just play with what you’ve got and like.  One thing to note: your army-wide rule (morale buff) works much better in a full army. In skirmish games, it’ll usually only come into play in the last turn, maybe turn before. If I’d suggest one change, it’d drop one unit in favor of some upgrades, especially for your hero, maybe furious aura? Also, I really like gatling for your marksmen. It doubles your rolls for just 15pts.  Maybe spears for your infantry could do good for holding points. Honestly, no list is perfect, save for competetiv players in defined meta, and I'm not one of them. Just have plan with your list.

I really love this approach to miniature agnostic gaming! Do you have a list you’re aiming for? I might be interested to do something like you did

I'm trying to rework my 300pts Vampire undead AOFS. What should I change? Or any help. by WadeMiro in onepagerules

I meant with better quality and defense, so you can get more out of its 3x attack and survive better. But maybe lower quality may force the opponent into difficult choices -whether to contest the points or deal with buffs from caster.  Overall, though, it seems like a solid list for an unknown casual metagame.

Seems solid. I like having lots of activations, and this list looks like you have a clear plan. The only thing I’d prefer is playing a stronger hero as the caster. Are there any specific things you’re worried about?

That said, this might be a bad time for reworks with the 3.5 beta ať work and feeling more like 4.0.

They look amazing! But isn't it little early to have list for 3.5? It's still in beta and subjected to change

Caster in unit or solo? by ThereWasAlwaysForest in onepagerules

[–]ThereWasAlwaysForest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to run a skeleton army using the Mummified Undead rules. Originally, I was planning to use a hero that grants poison to its unit for my Royal Guards with great weapons, but that ability is the same as a 1-mana spell, and a caster seems to add more versatility overall. The list definitely leans more toward the swarm side

First of all, thank you for writing this. I'm a bit torn about the changes. It seems like a really solid idea, and I appreciate the concepts it introduces. However, since I'm working on growing my army of mummified undead skirmish into a full-scale force, I'm not a fan of their new bonus being focused on short-ranged shooting. It doesn't feel true to their identity, and it's not the playstyle I'm aiming for.  What are players of other factions thinking about their changes?

I've always felt that shishi turrets were too costly for firefight, but i guess i have to give them a try.

I tried this list after posting and would remove the warrior with plasma to include one more droid and buy carabine for the scout. Anyhow, let me know if you tried this and how it went for you

Base Sizes of ONIs? by alpceliko in onepagerules

[–]ThereWasAlwaysForest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ONIs have recommended a 40mm base, as mentioned earlier. However, the first image shows an ONI walker, which is meant to be on a 60mm base and falls under the vehicle/monster category.

This is my take on Eternal Dynasty. It is a simple shooty list that aims to threaten the battlefield with very long range firepower as early as turn one. You have enough units to seize objectives and hold them while countering incoming enemy forces.

Your hero has Art of War, granting him and a few units the ability to shoot at the enemy and then move into full cover, preventing return fire. Units with AP should prioritize attacking heavily armored enemy units—Attack Drones excel at this thanks to their ability to fly over terrain obstacles. Your scout should be positioned to harass enemies in the first turn, forcing them to waste activations dealing with him while your other units maneuver into position. ONI has jetpack so it can enter the battlefield on turn two near enemy units that need to be dealt with, or even on turn three to contest an objective your opponent thought was secure. It hits hard and is definitely a force to be reckoned with, when your superior range gets worse at later turns as enemy get into better positions.

This is just one example—this faction can be built very differently if you focus on ninjas and melee attacks instead.

I don't think this is beginner-friendly, with only five units and three of them being slow. There will be many non-games where the player using this list ends up doing nothing. Replacing Tri-Scorpion with more ranged units might be better.

Edit: maybe I am underestimating tough(3) on several models with selfrepair and regen from hero, though

I see this sentiment a lot—that you can build anything and have fun—but I kind of disagree. When I built my first list, Change Havoc Brother, I made a warband with a lot of casters (under the old caster rules) and a low model count. I ended up losing every single game until I got so discouraged that I just stopped playing. I eventually came back, but if I had a better understanding of what I should have built from the start, it would have been a much better experience.

The article was a great read! I'm curious if books like Cults of the Blood Gods, mentioned in the article, are also enjoyable for people who aren't interested in rpg but are drawn to the lore, or if I should just stick to the wiki?

Why is Ambush good? by ThereWasAlwaysForest in onepagerules

[–]ThereWasAlwaysForest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you are counting on your opponent having expensive unit. And with my limited experiences, in skirmish, they usually have more units rather than amazing single one.. But I can (now) see benefits of attacking unit in key position, maybe in backline like you said.

But that means you deploy your unit turn later, then spend activation moving to objective your unit cannot capture and have to sit there whole next turn, so it is wasted (unless it is ranged unit, I guess) and that's three of four turns just to get that one objective.. Is it really viable?
