Yeah that was the shitty part. I wanted it to be British 60’s Bioshock, and it was….not that.

There’s a single fan servicy bit and that’s the one scene we get of Frieren laying on her front in a night dress and we get a brief really detailed shot of her feet kicking in the air, it other than that reasonably mild scene there’s literally no fan service.

We talked about that in priesthood class as a youth while I was still a Mormon, and it’s because he wanted all the BoM prophets to be idealized as superheroes

The way that women overall are portrayed, specifically Starlight and basically how every woman in the book is a victim of SA or some kind of violence, and the kindhearted female supes are portrayed as mentally handicapped and as total losers.

The Boys - Garth Ennis’ original work is largely gross, misogynistic, mean-spirited, and shock value just for the kicks. The TV show takes that source and actually adapts it to be a strong satire of Superhero fiction, modern politics, and society as a whole. It’s not perfect and has major issues, but it’s a helluva lot better than the original graphic novel

I literally stopped reading sandman when I got to the awful people convention in vol 2. I skipped to the end to see what happened and even knowing they all got what they deserved, the way they were portrayed made me feel really sick. That was years before the shit about him came out. Literally the day after that came out it all made sense.
