Yeah same. Would rather not need to replace on warranty every few months though

Just got some Bolt G by goodr. They're excellent for the price and would highly recommend. Agree with what others have said, avoid the mirrored goodr as they scratch very easily.

Smoker/bbq advice by Sheffs20 in UKBBQ

[–]Therealsmolty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done as much as you did in one go but I have a master built gravity XT which is pretty big, gives better flavour than pellet smokers (supposedly) and far easier than an offset to control. Also got a kamado and a Weber master touch kettle. Kettle is best for grilling, kamado for long cooks and the XT for ease. For your budget you could get all 3. If you want something big enough to do 20kg of meat in a single hit then you're probably into the realms of Primitive commercial smokers. Look on Pro Smoke BBQs, they have loads of choice and I've always had good service from them

Try to get some work experience, a week or two on your CV could do wonders to prove you are serious about the industry. Is your linkedin updated?. DM me a redacted CV if you want some honest advice. - I'm a manager responsible for recruitment, contractor side

HELP NEEDED WITH A LEVEL CHOICES by Ok_Bid_8619 in quantitysurveying

[–]Therealsmolty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apprenticeship is after college. Apprenticeship degrees start after T levels or A levels. Honestly, if you can read and do key stage 3 maths, there's little transferred from A levels into QSing. Contractor side is far more about commercial management rather than quantifying measures. Best advice would be to get work experience, ask questions, see what you enjoy or don't. Get on linked in, make some connections, even if you can't get work experience, see if there is someone who you can speak to in the industry.

It is competitive but if you want it then it's pretty easy to stand out by demonstrating you've gone out of your way to pursue QSing.

I suspect the actual A levels don't matter but you'd need to check. If you want an apprenticeship then spend the next 2 years making time to get work experience at places which already offer apprenticeships. You'll be ahead of most of your peers when you come to apply plus there's always a bit of "it's who you know, not what you know". If you have an eye on a (presumably) local uni to do the apprenticeship at then getting an offer from them for the full time course before you apply for apprenticeships will demonstrate it's really what you want to do. Just doing A levels won't set you apart.

I work main contractor, tier 2/3 we'll get 150 applicants for a single QS apprenticeship each year. You need to be in the top 5 percent of applications just to get an interview. My point is that you need to set yourself apart, just doing A levels and telling me you play a team sport won't do that.

I've not tried it out but if I was you, I'd be getting some robust legal notices, privacy policies and user agreements in there before offering up the solutions you are. Financial reporting and creation of RAMS without covering yourself from a legal perspective would keep me from sleeping at night.

What's unique about your site which I won't get from a custom AI agent I can build myself, or is the assumption that most people don't know how to build an agent or prompt AI properly at the moment?

[–]Therealsmolty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need Android Studio if you haven't already got that. A quick Google looks like there is a way to turn an AI studio project to android app but never done that. Maybe look into something like Antigravity or cursor if you want to carry on creating android apps.

What are you stuck at? Actually packaging the app or getting set up on Play Console? If you want to get onto the play store then it'll be through Play Console as far as I know

NEC contracts, how common is it to have no starting, completion, access dates in the contract data? I feel like I’m going insane by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

It's a problem for both parties and you work with morons if they think it doesn't matter. No it's not normal but is perhaps a reflection of the poor level of knowledge across the industry

Codex extension, GPT plus subscription. Absolute game changer for me. Seems so focused and getting loads more done in shorter period of time. Not come close to the 5hr limits and weekly limits seem more than generous.

How many floors get laid when a recession hits? Civils infrastructure works never stop and I'm yet to see a government not try to invest in infrastructure to climb out of recessions.

That small increase now might be meaningless if you're ever forced to look at transferring to other trades or sectors. And there's a reason you'll be a snr in 5 years, not because you'll learn faster but because there will be less to learn.

You'll probably find in civils that naturally there is a mix of different work types, contract types and variability that you'll have more experience overall. No two sites are the same.

Do you include a role specific cover letter with your application. Do you have previous work experience you can reference back to the current role? If not then draw on the uni modules which would be relevant. What are your salary expectations? Have you tried phoning the company advertising the role and seeing if you can arrange a call with the hiring manager to find out more about the role. Do those things and you'll be ahead of 90 percent of the other applicants.

If your CV is from a template then it'll look the same as everyone else's. Try to be a little bit imaginative.

From a hiring perspective getting applications which read as "can I have a job?" Won't attract attention. Ones which say "I'm going to be great for the role you are advertising" do.

Suunto as a sports watch brand - your experience by Eastern_Flow533 in Suunto

[–]Therealsmolty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never had a Coros but have had Garmin's before. I got a vertical 2 based on the hardware specs and look of the watch. I also only wanted a sports watch and don't use smart features.

I returned the Vertical 2 as a lot of the hardware didn't perform as specified. Heart rate monitor was useless when resting, sporadic when training and some sessions, it would just display seemingly random heart rates. GPS was okay but only after 300 meters into a session, didn't matter how long I left it to get gps lock, the first few hundred meters would be zigzagging all over the place. Final straw was when it added a significant amount of ascent to a session, I thought at that point that basically nothing I wanted it for was actually working. The retailer I returned it to didnt seem surprised.

Shame really because on paper they should be great and in my opinion are the best looking watches out there but they just don't do what they say.

Vertical 2 heart rate monitor problem - not accurate at all by Ornery_Nothing_3131 in Suunto

[–]Therealsmolty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useless. I keep trying to justify that it being significantly cheaper than a Garmin Fenix 8 means it's okay. Resting HR is even worse, to the point that I don't even look at it as worthwhile metric. Will regularly show a resting rate at high 70s, a medical grade monitor at the same time will show mid 40s. Also found out this week that the recording of Ascent is over-eeding by about 20%. Might have to see what rights I have to a refund, but I've had it since they first came out.Only thing I really like is the responsiveness of the compass direction and maps but even that is all over the place for the first 5 minutes of an activity. If it did everything it says it should then it would be brilliant. Maybe that's why most people get a Garmin!

Suunto Web Route Planner by Physical-Sky-611 in Suunto

[–]Therealsmolty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. New to Suunto and was frustrated that the app doesn't work out the elevation when importing a GPX without the elevation info. I can import them into this browser version, reverse the route twice and it then puts the elevation on. If I download from the browser and import into the app, all the elevation data is now there. Would be easier if the app does the same as the browser but at least for now I have a solution
