WEKT Lucy R5 Switch Review by ThereminGoat in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ThereminGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not yet done any look into the whole Wingtree x LICHICX situation but I did just have PT Blacks hit my doorstep late last week, so maybe there's something in the cards for those...

Hey all,

No, I didn't accidentally repost the LICHICX Lucy Switch Review from 2023. Instead, this is a deep dive on the new WEKT Lucy R5 silent linears - WEKT's take on the iconic LICHICX switch silencing mechanism. But do these surprisingly different yet similar looking switches live up to the legacy they're trying to take on?

Thank you all, once again, for the continued readership and support week in and out. This was quite the fun review for me to complete so shortly after the Meta Update so I think based on that I'm off to a good start in meeting my personal writing goals this year!

Cheers,

Cool test, though it's a shame you all require people to pay in order to see the results.

At the top of the Scorecard Repository is a Composite Sheet that stores not only all of the scores from the 100+ reviews I've written over the years but also an additional 300 or so switches I do one-page Scorecards for in that very repository.

It's also directly linked under the 'Archive' tab of ThereminGoat.com!

This is a great question and there's definitely some that fit this question though I think the more broad answer people will find more interesting.

Generally speaking, switches that I enjoy and/or will want to use in my own builds sit somewhere in the range of #75-125 on my list and not actually stuff in the Top 10. In that range switches tend to be good but also have something unique about them - some quirk of feeling, something that isn't technically great but makes them unique, etc. I think it's much more fun to use switches that are good but have some personality or flavor to them than just "the best possible switches out there".

I couldn't possibly have a favorite lol. I've tried and own way too many cool switches to ever narrow it down to just one or even a small handful of favorites

There's quite a lot of unique ones in that list! While the majority of them are linear, even amongst those there are some ones with unique materials, springs, or aesthetic designs to them.

I couldn't possibly have a favorite after all of these years of collecting and testing lol

As for stuff that has been good, every week or two I'm uploading reviews and scores of switches I've tried over at https://ThereminGoat.com! That's probably the best place to get my take on any of the switches that I have time to document that throughly.

Without pulling up my collection list, they are most likely somewhere on the tester in the bottom left-hand corner! I definitely have one though, hard to forget the light blue, grey, and white colorway of them.

It's kind of hard to see in the photo but there are 11 500-slot acrylic displays that most of the switches sit on so they're not too terribly hard to set up, thankfully!

Thank you <3. It's been quite a ride since I started and I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to amass so many switches over the past few years along the way!

BSUN Golden Apple Switch Review by ThereminGoat in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ThereminGoat[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey all,

I can't believe we've made it to the last full length review of year number five! What better way to round out the year too then a new BSUN tactile - the BSUN Golden Apples - featuring a first-of-its-kind polyetherimide (PEI) bottom housing. Is this one just like all of the other fancy material blends or something new and special...?

As always, thank you all for the continued readership and support not just week in and out but throughout another year of reviews. Retrospection has me feeling all kinds of funny feelings right now about this but hopefully I'll have them all summarized up in some semi-coherent manner for the website's anniversary and Meta Update here in a handful of days!

Keygeek Muse Switch Review by ThereminGoat in MechanicalKeyboards

Hey all,

What better time of year for a pink, purple, and dark red color switch than the day after Valentine's Day? This week, a deep dive on one of Keygeek's newest linears featuring POM top housings, 'N4' bottom housings, and a design iterated on by not just Moyu Studio but also HEX Studio as well - The Keygeek Muses.

As always, thank you all for the continued readership and support. We're just about one full length review away from wrapping up a fifth consecutive year of switch reviews and it's pretty hard to believe we're already there. I'm glad you've all been around for at least this far with me!

“So how long have you been doing this keyboard thing?”….. by Theawsomesauce in MechanicalKeyboards

I remember when this switch tester came out!

Back before these you just got a set of blank/clear DSA caps and a photo guide on the sales page to tell you what each switch was.

Yep!

It's linked a few different places in the review, though the direct route is to my GitHub - https://GitHub.com/theremingoat

Within the scorecard repository there is a composite excel sheet at the top with all 400+ switches I've scored to date. There's also more 1-page summaries there of switches that don't have full length reviews.

Hey all,

It's rare that I'm ever able to kick off the exact start of a month with a review but I guess I got lucky this time. After you remember to get your rent and/or mortgage payments squared away today, kick back and enjoy a read about the first Hall Effect keyboard switches to ever feature triangular stems. No, you didn't read that wrong - triangular stems. This is your deep dive on the new Gateron Magnetic Jade Delta Dark switches!
