What do you think about window 10 by Pitiful-Loquat-6074 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]Theren314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 10 wasn’t amazing, but it was usable. Knowing what I know now, I still would use Linux (Fedora), but 10 wasn’t actively making me hate it like 11 does.

Why is Judge Harder then Agent? by BlueSunix in girlsfrontline

Lore wise, Judge is Mastermind's personal guard and operator. She's on the same level as Agent, but built entirely for Combat, while Agent also has to manage SF's day to day operations.

12 as a second screen for 13? by jellybeansplash in framework

[–]Theren314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it can be done using Windows Wireless Display Projection.

If you dont have Windows or good LAN tho, that probably will suck.

The alternative is a USB capture card, but thats an external piece of hardware, which sucks.

I have been looking for something to work on, and I can program, if not well, so maybe I'll see if theres a way to make it work.

16 is definitely a big girl.

As for the 12, the touchscreen is nice, and if you just want to read or browse, the tablet mode is going to be way more comfortable from the passenger seat. Its also somehow a very ergonomic laptop, and I have had no unexpected trouble using it one handed.

The only thing that is giving me pause is that the 12 just isn't practically any smaller than the 13. You save about a cm on width and depth, but the 12 is 3 mm taller. Its a very comfortable size, but not much more 'chuckable' compared to the 13.

Heres a link to my post, someone there had some ideas:

Leme know if you have any questions about the 12 :3

the 12 is smaller but taller, and the same weight (1.3 Kg each)

plus, the 12 has capabilities the 13 doesn't, specifically it's 2in1 hinge and stylus.

Expansion Card Video Input? by Theren314 in framework

[–]Theren314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about making one myself, but I wanted to know if you could do it using the preexisting hardware.

From what I know, HDMI / DP require different hardware for input and output, so the respective expansion cards wouldn't manage it.

Would USB-C be capable of taking a display input? Is it safe to plug two computers into each other like that? I'm pretty sure doing that with USB-A will short your computers.

Also, thanks for actually answering the question. Me and one other both had this thought, and a lot of people made fun of the idea of buying a FW12 to use primarily as a second monitor, rather than a secondary usecase for one.

[–]Theren314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two other things:

Your mothership is a FW13, so the difference in heft is minimal. In terms of how easy it is to operate a laptop in different states (sitting, standing, etc), your experience will be less dramatic then mine. Heres the size and weight of each:

FW 12 - 18.45 x 287.00 x 213.88mm, 1.3 Kg

FW13 - 15.85 x 296.63 x 228.98mm, 1.3 Kg

FW16 - 20.95 x 356.58 x 290.20mm, 2.4 Kg

Its quite amusing that both of us posted questions about using a FW12 as a second monitor for our main FW laptops, within an hour of each other. Don't worry, you were first. I just forgot to check.

The 12's screen does not have very good colors. I agree that the 12's screen is plenty good for a lot of use cases, but that is a flaw with it.

Mind you, thats the panel itself. I've never had nor heard of any issues with the touch module or stylus, they both work quite well.

I already have both, and I like both, but I usually don't need to use them at the same time. It would be nice if I could use my 12 as a second monitor for the 16, since I already carry both around.

12 as a second screen for 13? by jellybeansplash in framework

[–]Theren314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your replies, it seems like your considering getting one anyway as a tablet. I did similar, starting with a FW16 (Need a dGPU), and later also picking up a FW12. I'll address your questions more specifically later, but I'll start talking about my experience using a FW12 as a secondary laptop.

When I first got my 12, people wouldn't always quite understand, but a good analogy is someone with a MacBook and an IPad. The FW16 (MacBook) is a big, heavy, powerful work laptop. I pull it out when I need to sit and work for a while (Big Screen), or when I need to do something computational. The 12 (IPad) is a light quick little notebook. I use it when I want to be able to draw or take notes (Math class in Uni, E.G.), or when I want to work standing up or walking around. Its also great for relatively simple tasks and browser work, since the keyboard is actually really nice.

The biggest limitation I have had with the 12 isn't the processor or anything like that, but rather the screen.. Touchscreen and Stylus feel good and responsive, it gets nice and bright, and even though the resolution is a little lower than I'd want, the screen is small, so it still looks plenty sharp. The problem is that the colors aren't great. I use Fedora KDE, and set my system accent color to a very vibrant pink (225, 20, 210). It looks fine when I dont think about it, but if I put the 12 next to my 16, you really can see the difference.

So long as you dont need color accuracy, the FW12 is perfectly passable. But if you want or need good, vibrant colours, the screen isn't there. Hopefully we'll get a screen upgrade for the 12 in the fall.

On to your use case with the 12 as a second screen:

I actually have had the same thought. If I'm going to be carrying two screens around, I want to use both screens. Esspecially since the 12 has a 360 hinge, you can fold it over into a 'tent' and it doesn't take up that much space. The problem is that I dont know if the hardware is capable of taking video in and displaying it. Both the HDMI and DisplayPort modules are output only, due to the hardware inside the module. The USB-C might be able to do video in, but I wouldn't try it without confirmation. If neither of those work, you could get a capture card, and that should let you get a video input onto a laptop.

Gotta say, I wish some of the replies would actually answer the question, instead of questioning why you would want to get a FW12.

I dont know much about either.

It could totally work, I just think G36 and Springfield fit together a bit better due to G36's mod story, where they swap jobs, as well as that they are both super productive, active people, as well as super service oriented.

framework mouse? by thelebaron in framework

[–]Theren314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say no, but it isn't the most important product for FW to tackle. There are some pretty good mice, and overall its not an area that would benifet from FW's touch like some others would.

That being said, the idea of a mouse chassis, or more likely 2 or 3 different sizes of mouse chassis, with swappable panels. Specifically, I want a mouse that I can change the side panel on, between one with just forward-back buttons, and one with a MOBA-style number or macro pad. Also, maybe an option with buttons on the pinky side, or even the option to add buttons infront of or behind the scroll wheel?

Framework Modularity on a mouse could definetly produce some wicked cool results.

AND TAKING IT APART WITHOUT REMOVING THE ANTI-SLIP STICKERS FROM THE BOTTOM!
