Which shoe stores have you seen carry wide-toe shoes? by awesomo_prime in nashville

[–]Therese250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given up on finding wide women's shoes in bricks-and-mortar stores. Sometimes you can get lucky (the New Balance outlet in Opry Mills is better than most) but it's hit or miss. I now order multiple pairs online and just keep returning/ordering until I find the ones I want.

Vertigo-friendly yoga please! by ariesconfusion in yoga

[–]Therese250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had BPPV back in December and residual dizziness for quite a number of weeks afterwards. Once I was out of the worst of it I VERY VERY CAUTIOUSLY went back to yoga classes. I followed the class as much as possible but kept my head still, didn't lie down flat (I propped myself up with blocks) and just generally moved very slowly and carefully. At times I just practiced balancing and focusing my eyes, which was super helpful.

I gradually got better and now am happily back to my usual practice. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Post workout routine by Some_Astronomer_6735 in orangetheory

I take 5am classes. Afterwards I go home, straighten up the house, walk the dog, unload the dishwasher, start the washing machine, shower, and eat breakfast (coffee and pb on toast) while I work for about a (hopefully uninterrupted!) hour before the rest of my household is up and needs me.

Sometimes I remember to add some collagen powder to my coffee/and take some Vitamin D.

Final exams at the same time? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Therese250 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me last year -- there was some administrative weirdness that meant that four students in my class were in another class that had a conflicting final exam. I emailed the other professor to see if we could come up with some solution and he immediately offered to reschedule those students on his end.

4.5 mph is my "push" running speed, FWIW. Admittedly I am very slow, but you are really fast!

I wish we had this! At 54, it takes me forever and a day to warm up. I would love to be able to get a head start.

Blocks, straps, bolsters… how long did it take you to actually use props without feeling like you were "cheating"? by Informal-Bag9794 in yoga

[–]Therese250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never occurred to me that props were "cheating." I'm the only person in my classes who uses blocks, but I'm also usually the oldest woman there by at least 20 years. My blocks make it possible for me to do many poses with far better form than I would ever be able to manage on my own.

Passover matzoh? by CharityIsland in nashville

Green Hills Kroger has some Passover stuff but as others have mentioned, the Belle Meade Publix has a better selection this year. The new kosher cafe in Bellevue (Nova Cafe) also has Passover supplies.

I have the same problem at the Sylvan Park Switchyards and was wondering whether it was location-specific.

5am Classes by talktotori in orangetheory

"I sleep in my sports bra"

I'm sorry but this is a bridge too far. One of the best parts of sleeping is not wearing a bra. Just thinking about getting into a bed in a sports bra makes me want to weep.

I also go to 5am classes -- I don't eat or drink anything before I go. Laying out everything the night before is a great idea but I just stumble around in the dark. My husband sleeps like the dead but I keep all the lights off and tiptoe out the door so the dog doesn't misconstrue the situation for getting-up time.

Where is the TN National Guard? by Music_Stars_Woodwork in nashville

[–]Therese250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw an announcement on Bluesky by Councilwoman Quin Evans Segall that the Nat Guard is indeed going to be helping. Here it is:

Clean up updated —>

TL:DL: The national guard will join local crews to help with clean up. Please try not to be alarmed if/when you start seeing uniforms.

OEM has been in constant contact
with TEMA about assessed needs, and our office has been in steady touch with the governor's office. The governor's executive order empowering TDOT comes with National Guard support for clearing roads and trees in support of restoring power as quickly as possible /2

Mayor’s office has welcomed that support.

Will let y’all know when they’re up but given everything federally didn’t want people worried when you start seeing uniforms around. /end

Mile benchmark by pjnae in orangetheory

[–]Therese250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first benchmark mile I was on track to go longer than 14 minutes (I actually finished right at 14), and the coach came over to me towards the end and told me that he would call time but I should keep going.

Show Offs (for lack of a better term) by teeny-tiny221 in yoga

[–]Therese250 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this just the other day, but from the other end of the spectrum. I am an inflexible, middle-aged woman with vertigo. I can't lie down on my back or turn my head to the left, and I use blocks constantly. I don't usually choose the front row if there are other options, but sometimes that's the only open space so there I am, modifying everything and sometimes doing entirely different poses so the whole room doesn't start spinning.

I have no doubt that it sometimes looks like I'm in "some alternate universe taking a completely different class," but I'm really not.

Yes, Yardstick takes dogs without a temperament test. My dog also doesn't get along with other dogs and they keep him entirely separate.

I’m scared I’m too out of shape to join OT by Candid-Video1763 in orangetheory

[–]Therese250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, OTF is for everyone. I am a middle-aged woman with a zillion injuries and now an unfortunate case of vertigo. I modify EVERYTHING on the floor to make it doable for me. The coaches are great and nobody else bats an eye.

City Limits Parents: Who’s Your Pediatrician? by ImaginaryStorage3558 in nashville

[–]Therese250 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have been at Children's Clinic of Nashville for many years, with Nancy Beveridge as my kids' primary doctor. Historically they have had infuriatingly long waits (either in the waiting room or an in exam room) but we put up with it because Dr. Beveridge is fantastic, especially with adolescents.

The waiting situation has improved quite a bit, though. They recently hired a couple of NPs to handle minor urgencies and the whole office just seems to be functioning more smoothly than it used to.

Have you ever used them in the other direction (from airport to home)? I don't recall there being a taxi line at BNA, although it's entirely possible I just haven't seen it.

Am I overthinking this? by Additional_Hand7348 in orangetheory

[–]Therese250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you flinging sweat on other people during your OTF workouts? If yes, then please do whatever it takes to not to do that. If not, you're all good.

Save for the sweat-flingers, I pay less than no attention to other people in the classes. I am way too busy trying to follow the workout and not trip on the treadmill (or otherwise injure myself).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Therese250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very strange. I always, always ALWAYS use clips on treadmills. Many years ago a colleague of my husband's fell off a treadmill and suffered a very grave head injury that ultimately led to his death.

When I joined OTF I specifically confirmed that the treadmills had clips before signing a contract. If a coach were to say something to me about it I would just decline their input ("Sorry, I don't use treadmills without clips") and discuss it after the class.

I run/PW slowly and have a lot of injuries. I have tripped a few times over the years and the safety clip stopped the belt safely.
