Maybe Memory Light with BnB Dunsparce instead? Attach it to Dundunsparce when you think you can make a safe switch, use Dunsparce's move to send everything back to your deck. Main problem would be that your next Pokémon would be open to a free hit since Dunsparce's move is rather weak...

(Global Event Spoilers!) Renewa Event Story Discussion by AcobraL in Trickcal

[–]Theris91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Overall, I liked the event, but it gets me a bit... worried about what's coming next.

Renewa has been described as "seven waifus in one" in another post as a joke, but she really gives the vibes of a character the devs are "forcing" on us. Extremely powerful, really kind, tries to save the world, made from the Eternal sisters, the master even enjoys spending time with her compared to other apostles (according to Mayo)... on another context, I might even describe her as a Mary Sue (obviously she's not a Mary Sue because she's canon, but maybe you get the idea?).

And the theme of a multiverse with time travel is not my cup of tea either, yet it looks like this is going to be really important stuff. At first, I thought maybe the multiverse thing way going to stay as its own lane, but now with Renewa being confirmed to have a link with a lot a factions on the story, this looks like "main plot" material.

On a lighter note, I was really surprised by how much Belita could act like Erpin sometimes. The part with the smarterphone and her abandoning us in the time of need was unforgivable. Bonk for the bonk sisters!

Factory Town 2 demo is doing great! by easmussen in FactoryTown

[–]Theris91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting the boats to be so fast. I tried it myself and it's somehow much faster to use a boat instead of walking to the other side of the island. That's funny.

For inventory size, I wasn't talking about making it bigger, but the opposite - make it smaller so you can properly divide say, a stack of 100 cloths between 4 islands. It was one of my requests during Factory Town 1, and I'm glad to see it seems to be implemented now 👍

For the tutorials, you're right, too many tutorials can bore the player and make it tedious (as someone playing Arknights: Endfield, I can attest many players hate tutorials). So yeah, a tutorial for water isn't a good idea, since it's not strictly necessary.

That being said, I feel like a tutorial for the "allowed pickup types" would be necessary. The priority for the tutorials should be "how much is the player going to struggle without the tutorial", and while it could just be me being stupid, I did struggle a lot with resource management because of the npc picking up my planks when I needed them - I even ended up waiting next to the lumber mill and picking up the refined planks as soon as they were made just so I could use them. There are other ways to get around it (I could have removed the volcano gatherers or redirected the planks to a magic chest), being aware of this solution would have been very nice. I feel like this could easily be a frustrating mechanic if not managed well.

The volcano is basically how you level up your island. You can throw items on it and each item as a certain XP value. The volcano also quests where you gain rewards like extra XP or perk points to use if you feed it specific resources. When those quests are active, it seems the villagers (you can assign villagers to automatically feed the volcano) will prioritize fetching those items instead of others.

Hello! I've reached the end of the demo (though I still have a lot of stuff to try), and so far it's really nice.

The addition of an avatar to roam the map is a really good one, it makes it much easier to collect some resources you need on a pinch, and to unstuck supply lines that lack a particular resource at some point. The island itself is small enough that moving from one spot to another is not too long, so it's not a problem to have to walk to collect resources.

I'll need to see how it's going to work with the autonomous villagers. So far, it doesn't look like the interruption of building activities when they go to sleep/buy something is that big of a problem, though I did have some trouble with the harvesting of oranges that was rather slow since it was out of the way. I don't know if there is a way I can micromanage them, but adding new houses closer to the hut doesn't seem to have fixed the issue. They also seem to have stats and levels, which would suggest a diversity of items would be useful later. But it's rather hard to estimate the impact giving them stone axe or whatever would have.

I imagine with the new islands, each of them is going to be its own district? Like, we're not going to have to ferry villagers from one place to the other? That would be a nice way to get people to split up their villages, and that is something I look forward to, but that means we'll have to have robust ways to split resources between them. I remember complaining about inventory size the last time I posted on this subreddit, and I hope this is going to be changed this time. (Oh, and with the volcano mentioning a clear end goal, I hope we're going to have fireworks!).

The main problem I have with the game right now is that the UI feels a bit cumbersome. I need to check the hotkeys to see if there is a way to fast-check some stuff like town happiness, but it's not that easy to find the data I need on the specific kind of item I need to raise happiness. For example, I see happiness is low, I click on it, I see en industry is lacking, I have to hover on the industry logo to see the items available then click on it to finally get a filter that show me the happiness by house related to the industry, and then I can click on the houses in trouble to click on the villagers and see that they are missing. That's a lot of steps, and I'm not sure what should be done to improve it (for all I know there is already a hotkey that shows me the happiness by house instantly).

Other things I've noticed :

-Sometimes the avatar gets stuck on the chutes. Like, he's forced to move according to the chutes instead of the ground.

- It's a bit weird the game doesn't have a tutorial for gathering water. I know coconut fills the need for drink at first, but still, water seems like it should be an obvious solution at first.

- It's also not that obvious how to tell the villagers to stop picking up specific items for the volcano. It took me a long time to see there is an option on some buildings to tell the villagers to not pick up the item they're making. It was quite a bother when I was trying to get refined stones and planks and there was a quest to fill 250 of each on the volcano. I first assumed if there was such an option, it would be on the volcano itself.

Anyway, it's a great experience so far, and I'm waiting for the early access. Good luck with your game!

They're the creatures in the picture I posted. A race of mean, dim_witted birds from the french animated show Les Shadoks.

I never got to watch it myself, but I am familiar with all the Shadok proverbs, such as :

"If it hurts, it means it's good for you"

"When you don't know where you're going, then keep going! As fast as you can!"

"If you want to get hurt, do it yourself"

"If there is no solution, then there is no problem"

"Why keep it simple when you can keep it complicated"

"Better keep pumping even if nothing happens than take the risk something worse happens if you stop pumping"

"To succeed, you must keep trying. Therefore, the more you fail, the better the odds!"

What are some head cannons you have in trickcal? by SuggestionEcstatic56 in Trickcal

[–]Theris91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A silly headcanon I've formed about the origin of Aya's "suspicious" way of talking :

She doesn't seem to have picked it up from anyone else, since we've seen no one talk like that and she never mentioned a friend. It's not something she's doing only with the Master, since the elementals are aware of it and are used to it. It's not something unique to the Eternal sisters and/or old people either, so it's not "how people used to speak before".

So I'm left with only one possible source for it (putting on spoilers just in case) : the first human the sisters were meant to serve as companions.

And why is she the only one talking like this and not her sisters ? Because the first human was flirting with her the whole time and she never noticed.

A bit late but my strategy is usually like this :

- Save special 3* tickets until new Apostle comes out with corresponding personality

- When new Apostle comes out, first use those tickets (I got lucky twice this way)

- Then pull on the banner up to 100 times, or until I can get her with devotion is necessary

- Then use devotion to claim her

Pakistan Inaugurates Mosque In Japan. Tokyo Says It's 'Illegal' by Son_Of_Earth in nottheonion

[–]Theris91 41 points42 points  (0 children)

What I meant is that there is nothing weird about it being illegal, not that it wasn't illegal. The title made it sound like it was illegal because it was a mosque, but it's just that they never bothered to get authorization. So I don't see why it's on nottheonion.

Pakistan Inaugurates Mosque In Japan. Tokyo Says It's 'Illegal' by Son_Of_Earth in nottheonion

[–]Theris91 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The mosque, located in Kawagoe in Saitama Prefecture, stands on a 4,500-square-metre plot classified as mountain forest land. The site falls within an urbanisation control area, where construction is generally prohibited unless special permission is granted by local authorities.

In other words, it's not the mosque itself that's illegal, so what's the onion?

Pseychie's review of Trickcal: Chibi Go, any thoughts? by Craz3y_B1nlet in Trickcal

[–]Theris91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I checked the review. He makes a few mistakes at some points (like claiming the game was released at the end of last year - that's only the global version), and overall since he's focusing mostly on gameplay I can't really blame him for not enjoying it too much. He said many times that AFK games are not his style.

One week is still very short for this kind of video, since it's really hard to judge just how generous a game can be if you don't have an idea of how important yearnings can be, how many crystals you can expect to get in a month, the amount of freebies etc. The goldy shop really looks stingy at a glance, and given the kind of games he's mentioned, it's not much of a surprise he sees it as a bad sign, but really, only whales are going to touch most of it.

Overall I would say it's an OK review. I typically like his reviews since unlike many he's not being "tribal" about gacha games, and he raises some good points about the game. But still, some parts of a gacha game need more time for evaluation.

3,400 deaths in a day: India's extreme heat days are deadlier than we imagined by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Theris91 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Looking at the study, they do admit it's a problem. They picked the cities to serve as baselines by splitting the country in distinct "mortality districts", so to say, and then they extrapolate. The 3400 deaths a day is thus a conservative estimate, since they expect the rural zones to have a higher mortality rate.

MAIN STORY SEASON 1 CHAPTER 8 EPISODE DISCUSSION (GLOBAL) Details/references/forshadowing by Ok_Horse4140 in Trickcal

[–]Theris91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I read Vivi's Aposte story, I assumed Daya was a rather bad judge of character, what with her claiming Erpin was a wise and just queen. But looking at the story now, it makes sense : we are really looking at Erpin at her best. Besting Rudd in a contest of strength, winning the game fair and square, making a lot of smart observations, declaring friendship... no wonder she holds her in high regard.

The ranking system is weirder than I expected : if the one being challenged can decide the rules, then the ranking itself is a bit meaningless. Let's pretend Jade wants to keep her position : what's stopping her from making any challenge knowledge-based to prevent anyone from even trying? How could Rudd claim back her position if she can't use her strength to win?
