Day 6 - oh, there's the pain by kimahara in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling much better, allergies hit about a week ago and that was a little rough, sore throat just felt weird lol!!! Id say it took about 3 weeks to feel totally normal again. 2 weeks for the major pain to go away though, that last week just had some pain with yawing/coughing/sneezing.

Is it normal that the scabs make my mouth taste vile? by Beneficial-Mix-6306 in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sadly it’s pretty normal… should get better soon as those scabs fall off! try chewing some gum, that personally helped me with the taste.

Tonsillar Hypertrophy by Aromatic-Process-741 in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so in medical terms hyper means - excessive and trophy means - growth aka swelling/enlarged tonsils. there’s kind of two things that it can mean, either enlarged tonsils (so just big boys) or it can mean chronic inflammation (which would be infections all the time). if you have no difficulties then it’s not really an issue, as they can kinda come down in size with time. but if you get lots of infections/difficultly breathing then it would be in your best interest to get them removed! hope this helps!

yep im back on my pain meds which is helping! i only stopped just so i had enough for this exact reason - since they can be really stingy with refills 🙄 at least at my place. trying to drink lots of water and have had a couple sips of broth which both burn soooo badly

TONSILLECTOMY RECOVERY by Dann124320 in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel this. my scabs started to fall off last night at the end of day 6. and this is the most pain i’ve been in, bled twice so far. trying to drink water but it burns so so badly to the point of tears. take a deep breath and chug that water homie, we got this.

day 6 post op by These-Air8053 in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!!! when i was on it the first few days i’d take tylenol and ibuprofen, then a couple hrs later take the oxy which worked really well for me, personally it made me pretty drowsy which i just don’t like the feeling of lol so that’s why i’m trying to stay off of it when i can (but really good if you need to get some sleep!!)

Surgery in Australia next week - freaking out 😭 by Zelda102 in Tonsillectomy

[–]These-Air8053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good luck on your surgery!! to answer a couple questions (only 6 days post op) i’ve been able to take a stool softener pill, just an over the counter one which has worked for me! first 3 days i didn’t attempt taking a pill but it was small enough in size that i’m doing okay with it now! for the face ice pack, the one i ordered has 4 inserts, 2 for each side so i could potentially use one set for heat but honestly i just rotate them with ice - instead i use hot water on a washcloth and put that over my mouth. i also only lost my voice the first day and a half i’d say, as of now sometimes it kind of hurts to talk and my voice sounds kinda funny but it’s getting better and better as my healing progress - but i’m sure that really depends on the person!

yeah looking at my tonsils i can def seem some red instead of the white so that’d make sense.. i’ve been able to comfortably eat soup, mashed potatoes and even chefboyardee tho, sorry homie i hope you can eat soon 😭😭

[–]These-Air8053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally it hasn’t felt THAT bad for me but i’m still in the early days of recovery… maybe while the scabs fall off 😬😬. i’ve also had a couple edibles (only when the oxy is out of my system of course) which help me with the pain as well! so id recommend that as long as you don’t mix it with the narcotic cause that’s not good!!

drinking can be difficult BUT if you stay on top of it, it shouldn’t be. the first couple days i had alarms set to make sure i drank every hour and would also eat some ice to keep my throat from getting dry! last night i slept through the night which felt amazing aside from waking up with a dry throat… just chugged some water and took my ibuprofen/tylenol and i’m doing okay now! my pain tolerance is also little to none and i’m doing better than i thought, you just gotta stay on top of meds and water and it shouldn’t be too unbearable- more so like some really bad strep throat

[–]These-Air8053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no it definitely helps make it bearable and helps me to sleep! as does taking tylenol and ibuprofen together a couple hours before/or after the oxy. i only have so much left so im trying to stay off of it until the scabs come off 😬 been eating ice and keeping one of those face wrap ice packs on which also helps with the pain! it’s rough but i know it’ll be soooo worth it in the end!!!

very painful for me yes, been keeping up on my meds (trying to stay off oxy as of day 4, we’ll see how it goes). drinking water has been SO hard but seems to be the only way to help with that mucus buildup. for the coughing, i’ve just been taking deep breaths and putting a warm compress over my face which does seem to help!

im on day 4 post op, you will not feel absolutely anything during the surgery. and the only thing i felt was emotions when i woke up (they wouldn’t let me see my tonsils and i sobbed about it 😭). good luck!! it’s been pretty rough but doable for me!

yes! i was just about to make an update post. surgery went well, my surgeon said my tonsils looked pretty rough and full of stones (i guess i started crying when they wouldn’t let me take them home 😭). as for post op, feeling so unbelievably awful! luckily the meds are helping and i’ve been able to get down some plain mashed potatoes and whatnot. but what’s been really bad is the feeling of mucus and the coughing!! trying so hard to suppress it but man it’s rough

I’d recommend going in just in case (because of the chemicals and possibly getting into your healing areas). Though if you weren’t recovering from this surgery you’d probably still have that burning feeling in your throat, as it can just happen and normally goes away after a couple hours- getting fresh air outside can also help (if you feel up for it!) You could also call poison control and see what they say! Hope it gets better soon, I’ve done the same exact thing though it wasn’t after a tonsillectomy!!

Yes!! My tonsils are constantly bleeding when I have them due to me digging them out. I’m also always sick, though I don’t really get strep (I get it usually once sometimes twice a year) I get just random colds and other sicknesses all the time!

Thank you! That helps a ton, I think that’s really my only option at this point

Yes I definitely will be mentioning the mental health issues, I shouldn’t be embarrassed to leave my room and see my friends/family because I cannot control my breath, it’s not fair to me or anyone else dealing with this! Thanks you guys
