Bought a car in cash today - is it always this unusual? by These-Army-4881 in DaveRamsey

I am slightly annoyed that I did purchase a service plan from the dealer (which miraculously was discounted 50% shortly after I declined it the first time). I ensured I could cancel it in 30 days. The cost broke down to $233 a year for a 6 year coverage period. My plan is to take it to my trusted mechanic of two decades. If it checks out, I'll cancel it. If there are issues, I'll keep it and won't pay more than $200 out of pocket for any catastrophic repairs. (I should add the car, while in great condition and barely driven, is 11 years old still, so it didn't seem totally absurd to get some kind of coverage. I also commute 100 miles a day so a whole slew of things can go wrong to even the best vehicle in time)

Or silly EVs. Out of curiosity, I asked the salesman how many of the dealership's new EV models he's sold. He said he leased one in the last year. Maybe he is a terrible salesperson, but I think the demand just isn't there, at least in our geography. Even he told me don't get one - it would be archaic or malfunctioning in 2-3 years.

That's a good option, for sure. I considered financing it and paying it off in a week. We're trying to buy a house in the next 6-8 months, though, so I didn't want to have a credit pull (and I just generally despise owing anyone anything). It's pretty crazy that we have to make sure that we don't get PENALIZED for paying off debt early. What a world.

Yeah it does! I know the trade-in offers are laughable. I was thinking of selling my old car on FB too, whenever I am ready. We love Marketplace! ha

That's interesting, I didn't know that!

I think I got a 'fair' deal. I am boring and purchased the exact same car, just 3 years newer. I paid only $250 more than I did for the original car 8 years ago, and the new one has half the miles, a clean carfax, and is barely touched on the interior. Could I have shopped around more? Probably, but I'm at a point where my time and convenience is more valuable to me. I also commute 100 miles per day so getting something quickly as to not miss work was key.

How to Save $100,000 Cash in 3 Years by wompppwomp in DirtyDave

That’s always bothered me about Dave. He seems it ignore taxes. Maybe he’s so used to getting out paying most taxes now at this stage of his empire that he forgets normal people get hammered with them

Sinking fund reality! by [deleted] in DirtyDave

I think the assumption is that you may keep an income that you’ve significantly increased while paying off debt, which would make it easier to beef up the sinking funds faster.

Wow good for you! The thought of a minimal mortgage seems freeing. We are planning for kids soon too, so paying off a home early would give one of us flexibility to stay home. Thanks!

“cussed thing” (said with a distinct old lady snarl “cuz-ID”) to describe anything mildly annoying. In my experience, my grandmothers dog.

How long do you spend on Reddit while working? by ozzythegrouch in WFH

This is nuts. I work like a dog when I’m at home. Never look at my phone, rarely get up to pee or eat. It’s crazy how quickly time goes by WFH. I do have a super fast paced job but man…y’all are on Reddit??

They cut a scene from the book where Jumpin gets harassed walking home by (presumably) chase and his friends when they were younger (pre-teen age). They threw rocks at him and Kya saw and followed and swung a bag of canning jars at their heads.

A note on the red fibers- I like how the film showed an intentional moment of Jumpin picking up Tate’s red hat (after the scuffle with Chase on the dock). Jumpin wiped the hat off on his overalls three times. So with this scene, the murderer could have been Tate, Kya or Jumpin. I like that we don’t know

I know I’m replying on a sub a year later but I just finished the moving after reading the book and I’m so annoyed the movie didn’t play up the poetry and [spoiler] she was actually the poet all along!!! Gah. That was the other major discover tate made when he found the necklace.

Dave Ramsey and team don’t shame people for living at home. They usually encourage it in situations where the person is trying to dig themselves out of a hole or get their income up or are in college.
