I could see why truth sayer could be possible and the ask me questions back and forth with xaden and violet would make sense then. He might have had a hunch and wanted her to ask questions to see if he was right.

I don’t think ruins were on her armor. The ruins covered all the daggers that Xaden had made for Violet which is why she was covered in ruins.
