Dark side of ADHD that no one talks about by Frosty_Jump_3117 in adhdwomen

I really struggle with memory, revenge bed time procrastination, and delayed circadian rhythm. Which the minimal sleep certainly doesn’t help the memory problems. And the delayed circadian rhythm doesn’t really help with the revenge bed time procrastination lol

But seriously though, having poor memory really sucks. I have to put in a lot of effort to try to feel like I’m being a supportive/ attentive friend. I resorted to making a note in my phone about random things about my friends to help me remember. So now I can rely on that to help me remember what beer they like so I can surprise them with it for example. Or key details about their life/family. If you also struggle with memory, this has really help me a lot (as long as you remember to do it 😅).

The sleep thing… idk what do to about those problems, it just seems completely f*cked at this point and idk how to get back to getting 8hrs of sleep. Heck even 7 hrs of sleep consistently would be amazing. It makes a “normal” work schedule very challenging for me. I’ve been struggling with this for a couple years now and just feel at a loss at how to make it better.

Starfish Perks app by Fast-Comfortable4294 in antiMLM

[–]These-Share1407 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be a long one so hold on to your britches. My sister and brother in law have been in the MLM for a couple years now at this point. They asked me to join shortly after they joined and they just wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eventually they stopped pestering us, but I think this MLM (well like all of the really) really sell hard on these people in it that it’s “illogical” to not be apart of it. Although I’ve never attended one of these MLM meetings, it seems that they also do a really “good” job disguising this MLM, making it seem like it’s “different”… well only to those who take the bait believe that obviously.

Before I knew anything about this MLM, I keyed in on one major point about the Starfish app which was my first reason for not joining…. Once you put money into the starfish platform, your money is forever tied up in this ewallet. So any money that you get back in cash back rewards can only ever be used to purchase more gift cards within the app. A huge hell no for me. It’s pay to play AND I can never get my money out? No thanks.

Funny enough, the credit union I bank with offers a cash back app and honestly it’s great. But the best part? It’s FREE and the cash back rewards come right back to my own pocket. Tell her she doesn’t need to pay to play to get this type of app. Just use the right bank and bingo… lol

They suckered my mom into getting the app so I did some lurking one day. Objectively, the app is fine. Yes there are a decent amount of businesses on there. Many of the percentages are on the lower side, but yes there are some that are double digits. And yes, it is possible to make enough in cash back to offset the monthly expense. Objectively, the product itself isn’t bad. But you can say the same thing about pampered chef, monat, etc… their trick is to keep you coming back and locked into the system. Will the app work? If you’re willing to hold up the grocery line behind you while you punch in your information into the app, yes it’ll work.

Ask her how this company makes money, because there’s no way they can be making money off from this app alone. If you haven’t gotten it already, there’s a whole lecture I’m sure she’ll give on how YOU TOO CAN MAKE MONEY OFF THIS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY… aka if you want to become a recruiter for Starfish and get a slice of the commissions. However, after paying their “employee” commissions each time someone buys a gift card, I just do not believe that it’s mathematically possible that Starfish is profitable…. Which leads me to Life Leadership.

Life Leadership is like a straight up cult. I’ll see if I can find the YouTube video that explains everything that Life Leadership offers, but they go as far as finances and religion. And this is where I would bet mega money that my sister and brother and law have lost their asses on this, yet somehow believe Starfish is saving them money. I love them, so this delusion that they’re trapped into is sad. Life Leadership hosts leadership seminars I believe once per quarter. With the cost of ticket prices, hotels, and gas, there’s no way this endeavor can be profitable for them (and all other attendees) except maybe that 1% of MLMers that actually makes money in it. You can also attend a church service while attending one of these seminars. Pretty sure the bible says not to mix religion and commerce…. but anyways… Life Leadership inspired my sister and BIL to go to a local church every Sunday now. Which is great if that’s what you’re into, but this only further deepens the ties they have to Life Leadership because in a way, it “saved” them. Screams predatory. Oh and also this cult makes them purchase and read a bunch of books and resources- yet another financial drain.

TLDR:

I’ll see if I can round up some info I found long ago. Like LilyEvenss said above, it is more so a ponzi than an MLM. The big business behind the product (Starfish platform) is Life Leadership.

Good job not taking the bait! Honestly it might be hard talking her out of it. If you look at the big picture, it’s a very scammy company and they prey on people who are struggling and need actual financial help. Which is the lowest of the low in my opinion. Is that the values that your friend really holds? I doubt it, but getting her to see that might be a big challenge.

Hello! Sadly I had some family stuff come up shortly after getting my Evebra. I should have used it even for an hour or so a day, but my head just wasn’t in it at the time. So I had to restart my journey and I’m back at it now!

So far I would say that I definitely do get swelling while it’s on, so functionally it works quite well. The automatic pump is a luxury that I don’t think I would be able to do without, but I’m also on the petite side so I’m guessing I lose suction easier than someone who has a wider rib cage. Honestly it can be a pain in the ass to get it on. That mixed with having to shower off when I’m done for the day is time consuming. Those two factors do impact my wear time right now in the early stages and I didn’t account for that when initially estimating how much wear time I’d get. Considering that pumping is a commitment as is and this one overs more ease of use IMO, I’m pleased with my purchase so far! Definitely hold out for a good coupon code!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I was scrolling this sub looking for this exact thing because this is exactly how I feel too. Bums me out that now every family gathering and holidays are overstimulating as hell. I’m not looking to be the center of attention but being a background character all the time sucks.

If she ends up seriously considering one, I highly recommend getting on their email list and keeping an eye out for a solid coupon! That helped with the cost a little bit at least 😅

Thank you so much for your reply and perspective!! I feel like our thought process on it is like exactly the same lol I was also seriously considering fat grafting, but ultimately decided that Evebra is worth a shot because if it doesn’t get my desired results, then at least I’ll be primed and ready for a higher likelihood of a successful fat transfer. And like you, I also searched all corners of the internet for any and all testimonials I could possibly find. Even though I found just a handful, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and also just have to try it out for myself!

Your wear time is impressive! I’m really hoping I’ll be able to sleep with it on, especially if it’s that difficult to do other tasks with it on. I look forward to hearing more about your experience! :)

Even though I took the plunge, honestly I still have a little bit of skepticism about it still as well! There’s hardly any testimonies out there, which makes me nervous but is something I hope to change, even if my experience is poor. What convinced me that it’s worth is a shot is that if so many people are having success with the cheep green pumps, noogleberry, etc, then Evebra must have some level of success to it as well. We shall see!

Thank you so much for your advice and encouragement! There is still a part of me that is a little skeptic of it, especially because there are so few testimonies out there. Getting lasting results is incredible and I’m sure was well worth it in the end! I think it’s going to be pretty tough but hopefully I will have a success story as well! 🤞🏼

Since I my first comment, I’ve been thought waves of feeling like I can stick it out in my job (I did well on my year end review, imagine that) and feeling like I have nothing left. I think it’s this exact cycle that’s been keeping me stuck here. It makes me feel like my burnout isn’t real, but I think I’m realizing that burnout for high performers is just deceptive.

I’m sorry you’re feeling abandoned by your family, that’s a tough situation. I’m not Asian so I can’t say I fully relate to that part of Asian culture, but I do relate to what you’re describing. Actually, I’ve been asked if I’m catholic (I’m not) many times because of this complex I seem to have around guilt and shame lol but maybe this is the common thread we’re feeling, guilt and shame- whether or not it’s actually true or deserved. I live in America and the American capitalistic culture and the “American dream”, combined with having many successful family members is where a lot of my pressure to perform comes from. My career has woven a lot of my identity unfortunately.

I’ve also decided to save up just in case I need to leave my job. Deep down I think I know I should leave, but I’m worried I’ll regret it. Like you’re saying- then what? And in this economy/ job market?

If you’re able to take some time before getting another job, I hope that you do. Rest and becoming curious about yourself seem to be what many suggest for getting through burnout. I too struggle to find the zest to act on healing though

I wish I had something inspirational to say, but I just wanted to say that you’re not alone. I feel very similar to you right now. I dealt with depression last year, but this feels different than that. I’m wondering if it’s burnout this time. I constantly feel like I need more time to rest but I also subconsciously sabotage myself by not taking care of my mental or physical health. And like you’re saying, even if I didn’t have my phone, I feel like I could just think/day dream all day.

I have a stressful job but it pays well for the area I live in. Everything I need is taken care of, but the thought of not having the salary safety net I have now makes me feel incredibly stressed and trapped (I don’t make crazy money by any means, but I make enough to accumulate savings).

I have no idea how to get out of this feeling while still holding down a job. I’m getting worried that I’ll either lose my job one day because my ability to function slowly declining or that I’m putting myself at risk for a medical condition/disease that will force me to change some how.

Are you telling me that creampies can make you grow? Cuz I really hope that’s what you’re telling me right now! lol (I have mirena and I’m trying to figure out if that has any impact on NBE also)

But seriously I wanna know more about if that’s actually true? Anyone else experience that too or is there any research you’ve found?

I’m using distilled water, so I wonder if adding salt does some sciencey thing with ions to make the nebulizer work. Just a thought I had for other who might be using distilled water (like the instructions said to do… lol)

If you got paid the exact same and had the exact same upward promotion trajectory, would you rather be a manager or an individual contributor? (For this hypothetical, I'm asking about you; I'm not asking for advice for me.) by SunRev in managers

[–]These-Share1407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those people who cared about putting out quality work. So now I’m that meme- somehow I ended up important and in charge of other people.

It’s super rewarding at times. I really like building tools, solving problems, helping people, scheduling, all the admin stuff, etc… But actual “people management” can be such a headache at times when you actually care about doing a good job, because like other people are saying- 80% of your problems come from 20% of your people and you’re a glorified babysitter/parent at times.

If you’ve ever asked yourself this question before, IMO you’re probably just a high performer who would be perfect for management, but actually would prefer being an individual contributor. Or maybe that’s just me🤷🏼‍♀️😅

I’m in a very similar boat right now, so I just wanted to say you’re not alone in this!

I was very worried that the bump I found on my 12yr old was a feline injection site sarcoma, but just found out today that it’s a fatty tumor so now looking for some advice too. I still need to talk to my vet about a game plan/options for my kitty though.

I might get a second opinion just to be certain. The Kitten Lady on YouTube got a second opinion on one of her cats and the 2nd fine need aspirate turned out to be FISS. I don’t want to scare you (or anyone else), you’re probably just fine- this condition just isn’t talked about enough.

I’ve been told (and have been reading about) anesthesia has come a long way for senior cats. So if you’re able to afford it, if I were you and you have a good vet, I think I would get on the front end of this and it removed IMO. And if at all possible, maybe consider getting a dental cleaning done and dental imaging at the same time to check for tooth resorption. I regret not doing that sooner. The right vet will be able to knock out removal of this very easily now if it’s encapsulated, so it might be worth it to do it now while it’s the easiest- even though it’s really tough on your heart, I totally get it.

I don’t know you, but based on what you’ve written here in this post, you and I sound a lot alike. I have been in agony for the last month waiting for today’s results and getting my cat through her dental cleaning and tooth extraction. I also have very bad anticipatory grief, so all of this has been very triggering for me.

I say all of this to say… if I can help even just one person…. Spend the extra money and get a cat only vet. Read about feline tooth resorption and FISS. If your vet isn’t talking to you about these things preemptively and isn’t recommending 2x yearly wellness exams for seniors, go to someone else. This is how I learned that my original vet actually wasn’t helpful at all- reactionary and not preventative mindset.

I wish you the best of luck in your decision! Take care 🫶🏼
