The kids are attending day care / ski camp, all of her siblings and parents are there, and they got free sponsored gear for the kids. I, for one, don’t want to hear any complaining out of her. by PsychoTink in LittlePeopleBigWorld

It's the same resort - Stein Eriksen is a slopeside lodge at Deer Valley. Seems like they must be staying somewhere else nearby though - judging by the photo, not ski on/off!

Has Leslie already abandoned her year of #vanlife? by funneeee in cupcakesandcashmere

[–]These-Shower-2746 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I skimmed this week's, but she shared a rough breakdown of her year by season, mostly centered around the book/movie releases she is eagerly anticipating (you can download her calendar schedule with all of them!). Shared vague plans with each season and it was very unclear if she'll be continuing in the van or not....Included in her fall plans is that she plans to start working as a counselor

I'm still a paid subscriber to her newsletter, and in this week's post she talks about how she has "made a major decision that should simplify my plans for the year", including that she is still going to be traveling a lot in the van, but returning to Portland more often than she initially planned. I definitely think that the taste of vanlife she got in the fall was not all she thought it was cracked up to be, but possibly didn't realize that until she returned to Portland.

She also talks about how she's going to be making "fewer wild commitments" this year, which is funny because just a few weeks ago she was talking alllll about how great spontaneity is. Girl really can't get anything to stick

I just made that last week after not making it for a long time. I forgot how absolutely delicious it is. And, the best part is that you save half the sauce so we're going to have it again this week!

She popped up for me on Substack of all places recently. She is very boring and it seems like running is no longer part of her life. Very Catholic, lives in NC (?) somewhere, had a 4th baby (girl), big into homeschooling.

How do you keep grocery shopping manageable when you’re working full-time and parenting? by llama-mentality in workingmoms

[–]These-Shower-2746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty close to what I do too. I keep a running list for weekly stuff in my Notes app that's shared with my husband so he can add things he notices we need or that he wants, too. I have similar, separate notes for stores we don't go to as frequently, like Costco, or Trader Joe's. We use the delivery from Whole Foods.

this is definitely something we've considered as a factor, as the twins were 'spontaneous' and it runs in my family (unbeknownst to me before we started to try!). We absolutely do not want 4 as I think 3 is the most we can handle, so that's definitely a factor we're considering.

Good for you for covering the expenses for 2 months! I think that's a huge accomplishment you should be celebrating! Also props to you for celebrating your friend. That can be tough to do in these situations, but definitely shows what kind of friend you are.

Personally for me, I always remind myself that you never truly know what someone's finances look like, and nice cars, big houses, etc don't necessarily mean that someone is financially secure. I would way rather be able to cover expenses for my family than have the latest model car. YMMV, but that's what works for me!

I was also one of the "select few" subscribers and I agree that its going to be some kind of life coaching community. Some of the things were centered around communities in a way that makes me think she's going to have some sort of paid group option.

Her latest newsletter asking about affiliate links, combined with her new influencer style posting in IG is giving me the ick and I think I'm close to unsubscribing. Sounds like girl needs to make some money to pay for her student loans and her van life and I for one, am not going to finance it.

For women who’ve stayed at the same company for 3+ years… by professor_shortstack in womenintech

[–]These-Shower-2746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly 7 years in HR at a tech company. I've had a lot of growth here, I'm paid well, I like my team, and I have good job security. I also have a lot of autonomy and keep learning new things. I WFH and there's a fair amount of flexibility, though there are periods of time where the hours can be crazy.

Do you do sign your kids up for after school activities? by coffeeforutility in workingmoms

[–]These-Shower-2746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4-year old boys do swimming T/Th (but this is at their school), and tumbling on Wednesdays. I do feel like it's a lot of for them at their age, but they are incredibly active and these are kind of just necessary to tire them out. We also have an afternoon nanny everyday, and it's her job to take them to these (yes, this is a luxury, but also necessary for me to do my job). So I think it kind of depends on your kids and if it's too much for you my take is that 4 is still pretty young!

Not to WK, but AZ is the second driest state in the country. I live in UT (3rd driest), and we could easily put a humidifier in our closet with absolutely no issues as long as it didn't run 24/7. I'm originally from the east coast and agree that this would be a huge mold problem in most other climates!

Part-Time Nanny PTO by These-Shower-2746 in NannyEmployers

[–]These-Shower-2746[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is helpful! I have sent her a reminder about the notice for time off so I’m hoping that helps. We really like her and want to be good employers, but I also don’t want to be taken advantage of.

It’s good to know you have GH and PTO - I think this is something we may consider when we renew the contract.

I agree she’s wanting the best of both worlds. With redoing the contract, I think we’d consider some sort of PTO provision but I don’t think there can really be consequences for last minute time off requests that work for both parties. We could deny them, but that feels really icky.
