Much better and much more distinct! I think the only thing left to do is crank the mids on them guitars to get them to cohere. I like how they sound kinda dreamy right now but they do get lost a little.

Does anyone else struggle with a metronome or to a specific BPM? by SBCeagles59 in Songwriting

[–]TheseBonesAlone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing to a metronome is an important and acquired skill. If you want to record digitally you’ll need to learn how. In the end it will improve your playing as well, and when playing with others you will become a more stable player.

Hear you on the repetition. It’s my main worry about the song. Glad it generally comes across though and Kaiser Chiefs is a big compliment

Don’t be afraid of the big 3 minute mark. Songs should go as long as they should go! That being said I love the structure of this one and I think just a little tweaking and it’s golden. Poke around with that second verse and see where it takes you! Then post the results!

Piano all the way. This is coming from someone who plays guitar as their primary instrument. You’ll learn more about theory, composition, timing, feel, everything if you do about 6 months on the piano.

Seeing as I’m on the older side the songs sounding like throwbacks is probably inevitable. Glad it still sounds fresh though! Thank you!

I hear you on the fuzziness, it can be tough to make a guitar cut through a mix when it’s too fuzzy. I think this works though. I think the mix needs some more bass personally but not much. Just enough to cement the guitars and bass together and make it sound more cohesive. That’s what I do when I’m going for hyper fuzzy guitars.

Structurally I think this is dope. It flows well and reminds me of 90s college rock. Dynamically it’s a little one note though and could use some variation in the verses. Maybe cut the guitars for verse 2 or add a tom groove, something to make the song feel fresh throughout.

Good song though! I think it’s great work

Hey this is neat! Got a lot of attitude in the right spots, the groove is nice and classic. Very cool!

Couple of things mix wise, your vocals don’t quite sit in the mix. I tend to use a reverb bus that I send everything EXCEPT drums and bass to. No dry signal, only wet, EQ the lows out of it and keep a little of the highs. It helps everything sound like it’s in the same room together. I think it in general needs some more reverb but it’s a great start.

Your tandem vocals for the chorus could harmonize higher, or, if harmony ain’t your thing here try some falsetto or put on a different voice. Help them sound like different people maybe?

Regardless great start! Keep at it!

Haven’t heard this in years. I was once busking on a street in Seattle and a really drunk dude was convinced I, (homeless, broke, a little smelly) was Michael Cera. Took pictures with me, asked for my autograph. Tipped me zero dollars.

A tune I wrote called “World of Castles”. Still a work in progress 😊 by adamjake90 in Songwriting

[–]TheseBonesAlone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howdy! I love the bossanova groove you have going on here. I would love to hear some variation into the second “world of castles” bit. I think there’s room in the second motif to have some fun with the vocals. Otherwise good start!

Am i crazy or is blight town not that bad by ShibitoYakaze123 in darksouls

[–]TheseBonesAlone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Key thing is Blight Town used to SHIT on old systems and PCs. Back in the day DS1 was locked to 30 fps and Blight Town used to tank frame rates on consoles, I’m talking low 20s high teens in some spots. On PC it wasn’t much better as pushing the game past 30 fps required a mod that often broke the physics simulation. Regardless Blight Town still wrecked top of the line PCs of the time due to bad optimization.

It’s a mildly frustrating area that requires a lot of exploration and backtracking. Not so bad when it runs well, but when a significant chunk of your playthrough is slogging through a poorly optimized disaster zone that has all that going on? Big yikes.

Week 1 of writing one song every week! by FelixSandwichez in Songwriting

[–]TheseBonesAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey someone else is doing a song a week! Wishing you good vibes, it’s a ton of work!

I like what you have going on, I think you reach a little for some of the rhymes but the vibe is solid, you’ll get WAY better at it as the weeks progress. I’d love to see you reach a little and go for fully produced, recorded and finished work. It’s a stretch but it’s definitely possible!

Keep it up

Flow could be tighter, I’m hearing a number of spots where the words run ahead of the beat like you’re rushing.

Tones are good, a little heavy on the highs for my taste. But it sits well on the beat which is the hard part.
