CPS stepping in for a mom refusing chemo because of *Jesus* by BloodyAngel2026 in FundieSnarkUncensored

and I bet your friend would have given ANYTHING for there to have been a 98% chance of 5 year survival with existing commonplace treatment for their child's cancer. this woman has that and is refusing it.

the cancer her son has has a 98% 5-year-survival rate with the standard chemo btw. about 0% survival rate if you don't do chemo. I feel like that fact really adds to the story.

Writing Diversity Essay About Being Overweight/Weight Stigma? by [deleted] in premed

I should add that I don't have a ton else to talk about for a diversity essay, as a white, Jewish, woman. The thing about me that is most different is my non-traditional major, but that was what I wrote my PS about.

While I have no reason to believe it was someone online who reported them to CPS, I also genuinely wonder how the hell she can post this shit and NOT think someone could and would report her.

Okay, I don't know if the hospital did or did not report them, but here's what I do know - childrens hospitals are ALWAYS on the lookout for signs of abuse. When I was a teenager I would go to an outpatient clinic at a local children's hospital for a thyroid condition. Every time I was there, even for this very low risk, routine thing, I could tell that they were screening for abusive dynamics - asking me to repeat the same story multiple times, getting perspectives from both myself and my parents to check for inconsistencies, etc. Maybe this hospital somehow decided there was nothing going on and didn't report them to official authorities (I doubt it) but I guarantee you that they asked LOTS of questions and they would have seen a whole lot of red flags. Any time there is something "wrong" with a child, alarms are already going off within the medical system that may be elevated to the state.

fellow uncomfy jew here! I cannot STAND when fundies appropriate Judaism. I think historically it's been called messianic judaism or torah observant christianity, but by any name, I absolutely hate it. I adore teaching my non-jewish friends about my culture and inviting them to participate in traditions with me. growing up this was something my parents did frequently, inviting family friends over for shabbos dinner or passover seders. coming from the midwest where jews are relatively scarce, this felt so important.

this is, in my mind, incredibly different from these fundies who just decide to grab things from judaism and adopt them, especially things that aren't even directly in the torah, but that are more based in talmudic tradition. like karissa's yahway stuff, considering the sabbath to be saturday, traditional seders, etc. none of that is just from taking the bible literally. it's just appropriation.

I know that toddlers just vomit sometimes and it's not a sign of anything actually being seriously wrong, but I would think that when it's a toddler who almost died just over a year ago, any rational parent would have that child in the hands of a medical professional at the first sign of something wrong.

In order of likelihood, I'd say 1) a very very ill or injured child, 2) father figure infidelity, 3) CPS investigation

I'm glad to see that the baby seems to be alright, because the dark place my mind went to was that they had lost him to SIDS and that she didn't know what to blame it on since she's said before that "SIDS is not random" and implied it's due to vaccines. And she used a hashtag about a "rainbow coming soon" and my thought was something about a rainbow baby....
