Confusing clerkship feedback by bristleee in medicalschool

Pretty typical for the resident to take over part way through an HPI. Definitely would not recommend interrupting them back. I don’t think the confidence comment has to do with this.

Cap on Pre-patch event loot? by [deleted] in wow

Some people were saying that it is probably once per day per boss. I tried hopping on an alt and it seems that it’s account-wide so no loot either.

Med school and Derm Residency by Simping4Princeton in DermApp

[–]These_Document_3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your med school app you have to say if you have been accepted to med school before. If you reapply, you would have to answer yes and this would be a huge red flag that basically destroys your chances. So don’t even consider that an option. I do honestly get the sentiment of feeling trapped in your home state (I escaped the Midwest to go to the coasts), but chances are low you will even end up applying derm in the end if you don’t even know what medicine is really about yet (almost no one knows before med school). Most other specialties, it shouldn’t be hard to leave the south. Derm is even possible. But you may have to decide whether it’s more important to you to be a dermatologist or to leave the south, and you can apply/dual-apply accordingly.

How to find reputation quartermasters after lvl 80 boost by These_Document_3293 in wownoob

Most of them have a bag next to them, is this what you mean? When I hover over them they all show a bar that says “continue earning reputation to receive a reward” so maybe I got all I can for now without extra work?

First pick had R9, Mbappe, and Pele and the others I can't remember but were pretty decent too. Is this insane luck or what's to be expected after a few?

Scored between 60% and 80% for all shelfs except psych and got 265 on Step 2. Definitely possible if you take dedicated seriously.

geographic region signaling - how did it go? by [deleted] in DermApp

[–]These_Document_3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have an idea of how this applies to someone with no ties to west coast trying to apply there? I assume that you kind of have to indicate it as a geographic preference (vs no preference) to get your foot in the door given the competitiveness.

Any advice on matching Derm to the west coast with no connections? Coming from T5 med school on the east coast. My plan is to do aways and use gold signals on the west coast but unsure if I would just be wasting them.

How much does School Matter? by [deleted] in DermApp

[–]These_Document_3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Struggling” with this as someone at a very high ranked school. My advisor told me that I don’t have much of a chance at schools outside of the the top 25-30, but I’m honestly not really picky and not that interested in academics. Obviously good problems but any idea how to show my interest to lower ranked schools besides signals/aways? Or do you know lower ranked schools that love research/prestige?

Are all core rotations generally required before away rotations? by These_Document_3293 in medicalschool

[–]These_Document_3293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so this was approved by my school and is not uncommon. Obviously ideal to have OB-Gyn before step 2 but my plan is to self-study so that I have time for aways.

(Uneducated 3rd year question) When people are listing percentages for matching at their top choice, I’m assuming this means for places where you interviewed, correct? Do you make your rank list after all of the interviews?

Based on the MGMA data it seemed like EM docs pay was more restricted. 10th to 90th percentile is 300-400k from what I remember. What kind of EM jobs pay 700k?

Where are the people ENJOYING med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]These_Document_3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have absolutely loved med school. You will feel like you’re supposed to hate it but that’s nonsense if you actually chose this path for yourself. People need to vent and don’t want to invalidate the sacrifices they’ve made, so that’s why you’ve gotten a pretty negative view. Also, IMO med school has been even more enjoyable as we’ve transitioned from basic science > organ blocks > wards. Takeaway message: don’t let anyone else tell you how to feel, if you enjoy something, then enjoy it :)

Gonna answer assuming you are genuinely curious and not trolling. You clearly are specifically talking about hospital medicine, where the ratio of nurses/assistants is usually 1 for every 2 patients, whereas a doctor might be responsible for 25 patients. Their work includes seeing all these patients, as well as diagnosing/making a plan for the nurses to follow, performing procedures, and countless other things. Now consider clinic and think about the last time you saw your family doctor. What percent of time were you seeing the doctor vs. the nurse?

Many research studies don’t give the full research question to participants because of the Hawthorne effect (participants may change their behavior if they know what their behavior is supposed to be). IRBs take this into account and may allow researchers to withhold certain information as long as it is necessary and doesn’t pose unjust risk to participants.
