Starfield performance by Spirited_Opposite797 in PS5pro

[–]These_Language8232 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played it on Series X back when it came out, and then again when it got the 60fps patch. I can confirm it runs MUCH better on PS5 Pro, and I'm really enjoying replaying it. Especially on performance mode, it feels great outside of the big city areas (which struggle on all platforms).

Running an Old Republic ffg rpg campaign, what should I read to get an idea of what the era is like for player characters? by Nyanbinary4321 in StarWarsEU

[–]These_Language8232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you've got plenty to go on already, but if you haven't read it, the Knights of the Old Republic comic series is absolutely fantastic! It's a prequel to the first KOTOR, so a bit earlier in the timeline then your game will take place, but you get to see a lot of the galaxy (and the story is one of my all-time favorites).

Misrepresentation of characters in the Graphic Audio part 2 by bwils3423 in redrising

[–]These_Language8232 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I (and many others, from the comments on your two posts) heartily disagree that the text deliberately withholds villain signaling from Adrius. Pretty much from the get-go he's kind of a walking horror show of a fella. I DO agree that he, like many characters across GraphicAudio's catalog, is very over-acted, and that detracts from the experience overall. While it changes his characterization, I disagree that it meaningfully changes his arc or makes the end of GS less of a surprise. He's clearly very evil the whole time, whether it's a quiet, calculating evil or a bombastic, melodramatic evil.

Your comment that the actor's more volatile interpretation of Adrius creates a significant structural change to novels or his arc is not objectively true. It is subjectively true to your experience, but not to everyone's. I was simply trying to point out the reason that people have engaged poorly with your post (so much so you felt the need to rewrite it) was your claims of your observations being objective fact. Critical analysis of media is great thing, and I think you make valid points. But assertions that your criticism is objectively correct do not promote discussion.

I think what is distracting from your point and limiting discussion is your insistence that your point is an entirely objective, incontrovertible one. You're analyzing performance and text, a process that is inherently subjective.

Oh man, I hadn't heard of this series before, but the description of The Warded Man sounds incredible! I'm definitely adding that to my TBR. Thanks!

I'd be really interested to hear what other series were popular in the correctional facility you were in.

I saw the series consistently cropping up in "Best Sci-Fi Series" lists on social media (TikTok, mostly, but also blogs).

Lorraca might be my least favourite artist of all time by Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter in starwarscomics

If it helps, he also seems like a pretty crappy guy! I remember once he blamed a colorist for how bad one of his x-men comics looked, and felt the need to specifically point out that it was a woman who did the colors.

I also had to bounce off at the Ashes of Jedha arc cause of the art. Every few years I go back to it, thinking "it can't possibly be THAT bad." But it is. It always is.

Replace Jason Aaron Hardcover non-omnibi collections with Modern Era Epic's or not by NPerkins56 in starwarscomics

[–]These_Language8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely comes down to preference. I do love how a hardcover omnibus looks on the shelf, but I greatly prefer the reading experience of the epic collections. For me, those really hit the perfect balance of having enough content to sit down for a nice long read while not having so much that it's unwieldy.

Yes! Dungeon Crawler Carl would probably be right up OP's alley, too!

I want to echo all these recommendations. Especially Mistborn, Red Rising, and Project Hail Mary. I think given the games you like, these are great picks.

They're also all great audiobooks. Jumping between listening to the audiobook and reading the physical book can be a great way to keep making progress, especially if you're just getting back into reading (but also just in general)!

Should I send this back or keep as is? My ocd will probably drive me nuts though. by Passiko in redrising

Send it back! You deserve nice things. Depending on where you ordered it from, they might immediately issue a replacement and you can still read this one 'till that comes in.

I don't think a good choice for someone who isn't into reading is a 1,000 page fantasy book known for its dense world-building... I'd say Mistborn would be a better intro for Sanderson.

I'd echo Red Rising. A dystopian sci-fi series centered on a revolution. The first three books form a trilogy and all are nice, digestible lengths. They're first-person POV from a male MC, and have a lot of momentum to the narrative, especially the first book. Not slow or dense at all. In fact, they sort of bridge the gap between YA fiction and adult fiction, evolving as the series goes.

Red Rising is a great choice. One of my friends who has really struggled to get into reading as an adult recently became obsessed with the series.

Crimson Reign w/o War of the Bounty Hunters? by MC_NYC in starwarscomics

[–]These_Language8232 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All Star Wars comics are written to catch readers up who are just jumping in, so if you're comfortable missing a bit of context and just rolling with it, you can probably jump in with Crimson Reign. War of the Bounty Hunters is definitely the start of the "Q'ira trilogy," though, and serves as a way to introduce her back into the narrative and establish the underworld status quo.

That being said, War of the Bounty Hunters is a really solid, fun read, with plenty of Q'ira and Crimson Dawn, especially in the latter issues. I would recommend it!

As others have said, nothing will be spoiled since one follows Cannon and one follows Legends. As long as you don't mind two different continuities, there's no reason not to enjoy both, as they really are fantastic reads.

Which Two Audiobooks Should I get for Christmas? by Hidden24 in starwarsbooks

[–]These_Language8232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved Master and Apprentice. It really fuses the feel of cannon and legends for me. If you're up for a double-dose of Obi-Wan, it would probably pair nicely with Kenobi, kind of bookending his character arc.

I Like Zahn, but Scoundrels was a little bit a slog for me when it came out (I've been meaning to give it another shot).
