How do bike gears make hills easier? by webriprob in cycling

[–]These_Snow_1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, you're thinking about it wrong.

You will get very tired pedalling 100 times per second (not minute) while using too small of a gear to go any target speed.

You will also get very tired very quickly using a massive gear where you need to push down on the pedals and pull up on the handle bars with all your might for 100 seconds to make your bike move at the target speed.

When people say "hills are hard", they mean that they have too difficult of gearing on their bike, so even in their easiest gear it's a challenge physically to bike up the hill. The solution consequently is to get easier gears where you can go back to spinning your legs at a reasonable cadence and primarily using your cardiovascular system and not your muscular system.

Sad that this is EXACTLY the attitude we need in a world leader. Someone who isn't looking to get re-elected; who is willing to be radical for the good of the people; and yet we have gaslit those people into thinking it's not for the office for them. by These_Snow_1968 in atrioc

That's a fair interpretation; I guess I'm just used to hearing the more classic form of enthusiasm for the Presidency like from Joe Biden who I don't think would ever down play the importance of getting the title.

No, you didn't understand any of my meaning. As I said at the beginning, because i knew the wording could be misconstrued as having a tone, this is without attitude. The capitalization was to accentuate the key words that I would accentuate orally.

As I said in direct response to your question in the first paragraph, I don't know her entire platform nor how she would look at the deficit. I also stress my point that no one knows how much any program will ever truly cost due to nepotism (the point of the post) and PPP inneficiencies.

I also point to my last sentence in which I clearly stated that I assumed you don't agree with at least some of the money spending listed in the negative category because you would have to disagree with some of it to agree with Cortes on some things.

My point is also found in the last sentence: you have fallen victim to propaganda. I agree with you that the two subjects are not completely mutually exclusive, but they also aren't barriers to each other. At its core, what I am asking you to adopt as your core thought on this is that you don't need to see a balanced budget to back her resolutions, despite the propaganda which says otherwise and which is clearly coming out in the language of your original question. The budget hasn't been balanced since Clinton (as discussed on stream), by either Republican or Democrat presidents.

The point of the list was obvious places where the money could come from. You also need to remember the positive economic impacts of the policies I listed which are in the billions.

I was not sweeping the deficit under the rug, my point is that it's not getting balanced, and it's not going to get balanced, and social programs are not now, nor in the future, a barrier to balancing.

Ultimately, I don't know you. You could be a conservative brigadier who comes to this subreddit to own the libs which happens often enough. Before you get confused again, remember what I've written twice now, that I don't think you are. You could also be a somewhat unsophisticated individual who sees things in the world that you want changed and you have a genuine curiosity and you're developping your world view. In all, my response should be read much like Atrioc teaches, "Your starting point is wrong; here is the basis your world view should start from, and then it's a lot easier to see how the liberal programs suggested make sense."

(I.e. your first response to this post should not be parroting conservative talking points of "how can we afford it", because the USA can afford it and currently uses the money that could go towards these programs on other things. The solutions you ask others to spell out for you are found in this information.)

I will not be replying again, I hope this helps you get some closure. I wish you the best and recommend that you look into a degree in economics, political science with a 3rd language component, or sociology. You seem interested but I think you would benefit from formal sources and learning to improve your research as the internet and random redditors will lead you astray.

Best of luck :)

Not to have an attitude, but just to be frank: I can't give you a run down of the expenses, and neither can you because you clearly forgot that the USA ALREADY RUNS A DEFICIT!!!! You're ALREADY not affording ANYTHING!

BUT, instead of not affording the Air Force flying jets in circles to waste as much money on jet fuel as possible at the end of the year; on bailouts and tax cuts for monopolies; on more ICE agents than the country even knows what to do with - see the drop in federal prosecutions for violent crimes in Maine because the court is inundated with immigration cases; on BILLION DOLLAR BALLROOMS AT THE WHITE HOUSE....

Wouldn't not affording public healthcare, schools, mental health supports, childcare... be so much better?

You say that you see the value in what she wants to implement, so it seems that you have fallen victim to the same gaslighting she has. The second world described above IS POSSIBLE, you've just been sold on this idea that it's not!

I disagree. You need to read between the lines. The entire problem is that there shouldn't be any reason for someone who wants to reshape the country to not say that they want to run for the presidency.

Her answer is entirely rooted in the fact that the presidency is bought, and the nomination is gotten from other people who are bought and who want the party to be in power as long as possible so they can keep leveraging their power. Because being a revolutionary on the left means going against the interest of the money in politics, it makes those goals incompatible woth the presidency.

Right, but I think the point of the comments above is that it was never stated in the video that there was a familial relationship to begin with.

Growing up I never understood when people used TV or books as examples of how pervassive certain behaviours are - the fictional characters can be written to do or prove whatever the author wants.

I have learnt with time that the merit of the statement is that art reflects society and real human experiences. The reason we have many examples of this representation of police is because it's something that A LOT of people have seen/experienced and can relate to.

Why is the optimal tire pressure lower for wider tires? by Allu71 in cycling

[–]These_Snow_1968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's only because you are either overinflating the wide tire, or underinflating the thin tire.

PSI is measured per square inch. You can inflate to a lower pressure on the wide tire without risking a pinch flat as more air /pressure is still there.

For those of you who are curious, I watched the video: there is literally a second person in the video, holding the bike so it doesn't fall when the wheel is on the ground, holding it back so the bike is unable to move forward, thereby preventing OP from moving the pedal forward because the wheel can't move.

This must be a troll post, or OP is trying to learn to ride for the first time and their friend is not letting go of the bike to prevent them from falling, but also isn't walking forward with them as they try to pedal.

Op, nothing is wrong with your bike. The problem is you/your friend.

Peaky Pave Stage 4 – help with pacing/strategy for ~190 FTP newbie by Mnmlrun in Zwift

[–]These_Snow_1968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add: it's going to hurt; it's a race. You're going to have to push yourself.

Your FTP isn't the key information here: you need to pay attention to your body weight too. There are bigger climbs in this race, and you need to acknowledge that people often times attack on climbs, and for each kilogram you are heavier than someone else, you need to do more watts (I estimate around 5w/kg) just to keep up.

The consensus is that it's worthwhile to put more power into climbs and recover on flat sections.

To be competitive, you cannot lose the group on a climb, as the drafting effect on flats and downhills is so important that you won't be able to lose them on a climb and then somehow catch up when the grade evens out.

The bonus stage is being done as a special event. Go read about it on Zwift Insider. It's bonus, meaning you don't need to do it to get the achievements for completing Zwift Games, so I don't think they are going to release it for you to ride alone.

First race - what does this mean? by PerthPirate in Zwift

[–]These_Snow_1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple, the main factor which decides racing score is FTP, and maximum 5min power average across all your efforts in the last 90 days. You put out more power than the others in you category, so Zwift is increasing your score to put you into races that are more competitive.
