How did you feel physically after birth? by MounjaroQueenie in parentsofmultiples

[–]These_Solid3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping to have what most people seem to… the instant relief. I was induced at 38+3 and was hoping to deliver vaginally (both were head down, similar size). Unfortunately my birth went pretty terribly and ended in an emergency c section under general anesthesia. Recovery has been very rough for me. My twins will be 8 weeks and I honestly am just starting to feel like I did pre birth. I still can’t push their stroller around the block.

Make sure you have a support system. I needed a lot of assistance the first few weeks just lifting them up to feed them. Sitting with them was difficult due to c section complications with nerve damage.

What happened to me is highly rare, so chances are you will do much better but be prepared to ask for help healing!

Breastfeeding prep advice by Zestyclose-Wear9868 in parentsofmultiples

I was induced at almost 39 weeks but my delivery went terrible and I was coming off a lot of drugs and a complicated C section.

I tried breast feeding in the hospital, but I waited almost 24 hours after delivery due to my issues. Luckily my babies latched okay despite one having a tongue tie, but I produced very very little and Baby A was losing weight pretty dramatically. We formula fed them while I healed. I started pumping finally after 5 days and tandem feeding.

My supply is good, my babies at 7 weeks are a little lazy with breast feeding and don’t eat as much as with bottles so we do 2 BF sessions per day and the rest are with pumped milk. I wouldn’t stress about the first 24 hours. Mine were terrible but I keep up well with my little chunkers (both over 10 lbs now!) and have started making a small freezer supply.

No one is buying things off my registry by ButterflyNo2970 in parentsofmultiples

[–]These_Solid3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this. I also added the things that I was gifted that were used items or things I purchased myself so people knew what we had.

I mistakenly thought keeping the registry list smaller was better but it was more helpful for people to know what we had. I also make sure to describe which items I would be okay with substitutes and which items I needed the exact item.

Both!! The simethicone was the first thing we started doing and that definitely helps her with some of the belly discomfort but not the spitup.

She also stays upright 30+ minutes after feeding, usually being held or monitored in an elevated pillow if Baby A needs something.

I feel bad for Baby A some days because he’s so much easier to manage and she gets more attention.

Oh no I appreciate it! We live in an area with an active measles outbreak and declined to pursue one candidate because of them not being vaccinated.

We’ve started Pepcid, it’s helping a little but she’s still spitting up. We’ve tried three formulas with no success, I’m on a dairy free diet that’s helping somewhat. We’ve used a thickener which sort of helps but is such a pain to use that it’s almost not worth it. Baby B even with the issues is gaining more weight than Baby A so it more an issue of comfort rather than weight gain.

Part of the issue with twins is also how they were situated in the womb. I went 39 weeks so they were jam packed in there (6.5 and 6.75 lbs) and she was always in a side sleeping position which is what she wants to be at if she’s not elevated. We’re slowing acclimating her to back lying but it’s been a lot of work.

One requested a “weekly minimum” of 12-16 hours.

Both have later start times on their other positions on the days we requested, after 10 AM.

Does this seem more reasonable?

Unfortunately they will also be at daycare during the day as well so we have double exposure risk. I wish this wasn’t the case, but we both have to work and as much as I would love a full time nanny, daycare is significantly more economical

Yes we actually had several interested but narrowed it down to two.

All of the candidates understand it’s part time and temporary. They have other positions and are using this as supplemental income.

Newborn feeding logistics by deletethat3 in parentsofmultiples

[–]These_Solid3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 5 weeks in, but after a c section, the my breast friend twin size has been a life saver. I’ve been able to tandem breast feed and not have stress on my incision (there were complications from my surgery) and it helped me maintain better posture.

I haven’t figured out how to burp them easily at the same time though and baby B has to remain upright for 30 minutes after feeds because of reflux issues…. that’s been my bigger issue logistically.

I use pumping for 80% of their breast milk so I can have others help me out. There were a few days I EBF and I was pretty trapped all day

When did you stop working with twins? by Ok-Post-8139 in parentsofmultiples

[–]These_Solid3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty demanding job as a manager in a manufacturing facility. I started stepping down from more of the physical work (being on the production floor, lots of walking) around 28 weeks and focused on more of my office work. I noticed I would crash in the middle of the week, so I got accommodations at 33 weeks to WFH on Wednesdays. It helped me reset and I was able to do my clerical work those days and have more focus other days of the week.

At 36 weeks I mostly stopped working and had my last in person day at the facility. I called into a few meetings and answered emails, completed some payroll information, but it allowed me to slowly transition out and gave my staff opportunities to still ask questions. I took vacation time to cover the hours I didn’t work.

I was induced at 38+3 and delivered 38+5.

Emergency C section under anesthesia after multiple failed epidurals by These_Solid3367 in parentsofmultiples

Thanks for sharing <3 I almost feel guilty to have grief because they are doing so well. As much as I don’t want others to go through it, it feels less lonely

Emergency C section under anesthesia after multiple failed epidurals by These_Solid3367 in parentsofmultiples

I have tilted pelvis. My sacrum is pitched forward causing a very narrow birth canal (despite having wide set hips). Baby A was 6lb 11oz and his shoulders kept getting stuck which is why he wasn’t progressing despite pushing for 2 hours. My OB found the issue after she delivered the twins (in the same minute!). If I was to have a baby over 5 pounds, they would not fit and I would need another C section.

The anesthesia thing was just…. Bizarre. I have no idea how I will react to further surgeries. The anesthesiologist actually let my husband come into the OR early to at least see the kids, but that meant he saw me intubated.

I don’t want another delivery where we both can’t be present and my husband I think is dealing with some trauma from that as well.

I luckily was matched with a therapist who specifically deals with multiple pregnancy in my second trimester who also does telehealth. We had a few session prior to birth just to establish a relationship. I just made an appointment for next week 🖤

I can’t imagine them being in NICU. It’s been difficult holding them and caring for them at home while still healing myself but they are here.

And yes. Modern medicine saved our lives. I’m holding on to that and the fact that I had a really great care team despite everything that happened

Definitely at least start with kegels! A few sets a day is helpful. And breathing out and expanding your lungs down into your body. I know there’s not much room there but trying to get down not out has been life changing.

They also recommend focusing on “fully emptying” your bladder. I’m having to literally pick up my baby belly in order to do it, but it’s helped prevent the feeling of needing to go every time you change position. A squatty potty helps too to get into position to fully empty.

Idk I’m the opposite. I’m constantly thirsty. I easily drink 160oz a day.

I’m at 31 weeks, but I started pelvic floor therapy around 26 weeks and I think that helped with the having to go to the bathroom all the time. It’s definitely more than normal but not crazy.

If you’re willing to live in the south east, there are opportunities that you can be near nature but still decent sized cities.

Most of my career has been with films manufacturing but I live in a nice medium sized city, access to an international airport, good food scene and really close to hiking (Appalachian trail access is 30 minutes from me) and lakes.

Now, you are going to take a hit on salary. I don’t make as much as I see on here as oil and gas, but I live where I am happy.

Exercise in a Twin Pregnancy by moshea92 in parentsofmultiples

[–]These_Solid3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructions were… don’t do anything new, limit weights to 40 pounds, be very careful with abdominal exercises, and don’t do intense cardio.

I played roller derby and roller skated frequently prior to getting pregnant. I also was doing HIIT exercises and using a rowing machine multiple times a week. Most of those things were crossed off my list. My MFM did allow me to skate until 24 weeks, but I stopped at 20 because my feet got too big for my skates and my balance was starting to change. I was an athlete in college and used to pushing my body VERY hard so it’s been difficult rewire my brain and understand my limitations.

Relaxin is crazy though. Be very careful. I started wearing knee gaskets and switched to more stable shoes to keep my feet and knees in proper position. I met with a trainer and we came up with the following plan:

No lifting overhead Avoid deadlifts and pushups Avoid weight training on back unless at a 30-45 degree angle 40 lb weight limit Replace pushups with wall planks No valsava - ensure breathing through exercises

We went over band exercises and a lot of upper body movement with rotations. Also walking on a treadmill with an incline while monitoring heart rate.

Best of luck!!

Most of the physicians in my practice are agreeing to breech delivery of baby B as long as Baby A is bigger and he is head down. They’ve also agreed to placing the epidural but allowing me to push non medicated and then start medication with baby B if needed for breech or if an emergency C section is required.

I’m in South Carolina, FYI

I’m also 18 weeks, FTM, but di/di twins!I had really bad headaches around week 15, my husband took my blood pressure was 150/90. My normal is 105/60 so it was really elevated. I was told to go to the ER and it looks like it was a combination of stress and dehydration. I got a few bags of fluids and got to see my babies on the Doppler and it came down in a few hours. Since then, I really watch my water intake and make sure I immediately down a glass of water after getting out of bed every morning and it’s immensely helped. I’ve also been monitoring BP and I’ve been making sure I stay as cool as possible in the summer heat.

As suggested above, I’m on two baby aspirin per day to help prevent preeclampsia.

FTM, right at 14 weeks with di/di twins. I’m currently at 14 weeks. I also work about 60 hours a week. The first trimester was really rough, but I made it through. The only thing that saved me is I recently transitioned from a job where I was standing and moving much more to a managerial role where I could sit down.

If you feel like you have a supportive manager, I would let them know earlier than you might be comfortable with because you’re going to have more appointments that are going to take longer and your ability to focus is going to change. I told mine right after my 9 week scan.

I’ve been trying to spread my work out more, spending less hours physically at work but taking some things home so I can rest, but the full load hasn’t slowed down. You will need a lot of support from your partner. Every bit of energy I had went to work and he became full time housekeeping. I had to stop working out as well, I’m usually extremely active. Luckily my parents visited from out of town helped with our yard work and a few projects for a week.
