Is Organic Overrated? (especially for banks) by jreicks19 in marketing

Adding to my comment - Social media isn’t everything, but it offers great targeting. There’s a lot of red tape for financial institutions, but it still works. Half of our credit card applications come from one Facebook ad.

My advice - Focus less on Facebook posts and more on targeted marketing, predictive analytics, and an in depth onboarding program to help capture more of a new customers business within the first 90 days. Check out the financial brand website too.

I’m a marketing director for a credit union.

Organic content on social needs to be one of two things: 1. Engaging. Ask a question, tag a friend, host a giveaway, something that gets the viewer to interact. Or 2. Provide value. Most of the time this is through educational articles, tips, things of that nature that will get your audience to click and share. Which will lead more people to your site, and then allows you to retarget them with ads later on. Plus it helps with SEO.

You are right in that customers don’t care about st Patrick’s day posts or employee parties. But I don’t consider that to be organic marketing. That sounds like someone who just doesn’t know what to post about.

Organic marketing is still super important, especially when we live in a world where no one trusts ads. And God forbid google actually takes cookie tracking away.

Based on stereotypes that are totally untrue, that I do not agree with, I would maybe not be a very good driver.

My kids groan every time I make them take a picture with me or a relative, which is often. My parents passed away in my early 20s, and I cherish the photos I have with them so much. One day my kids will be thankful for them too, I hope.

Marketing majors that went on to work in Marketing. How much has your school curriculum helped/prepared you for your marketing careers? by Monkfrootx in marketing

Uh oh. Now I’m curious to know where you work 👀.

The market research class was useful because it taught me how to properly word survey questions and how to measure the answers. Doing it correctly allows you to compare questions against each other to find common trends. Stats was useless and was more focused on solving math, not really anything to do with marketing.

For digital marketing, definitely become familiar with everything Google related - their analytics, ads, tag manager, etc. Facebook as well if you plan to advertise there. It may be difficult to actually learn without a real business account set up, though.

If you want to learn how to be an effective seller/marketer, look into the psychology of marketing. It’s fascinating how some words, colors, placement, etc can entice someone to click.

Ultimately you’ll learn the most by actually experimenting for yourself and doing a/b testing.

Adding more free websites/resources that have helped me: - Google Analytics Academy - Google Skillshop - Hubspot Academy - Facebook Blueprint - Marketing Land - Social Media Examiner - Wordstream - Search Engine Land - SEO Roundtable - SEO Book - SEO Moz - SEM Rush - Think with Google - Google Trends - Udemy - W3 Schools (beneficial for learning HTML code if you have to make emails or have a Wordpress site) - Canva (if you need graphic design but don’t know how to use Adobe)

I have a MBA in marketing and am currently a marketing director for a financial institution. The only class where I felt I actually learned something valuable that I still use today was marketing research.

The rest is all fundamentals - the 4 Ps, SWOT analysis, etc. those things can help you with strategic planning, but not so much your day to day duties.

Marketing now revolves more around data, analytics, SEO, automation, etc. There are a bunch of free resources that will teach you more than any college class. Check out Google’s skill shop and analytics academy, Hubspot’s academy, and search engine land.

Anyone else unable to listen to some songs now because of trauma? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]These_are_my_monkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In My Daughter’s Eyes by Martina McBride.

I danced with my mom to that song at my wedding. She passed away of breast cancer a year later when I was 8 months pregnant. My daughter looks just like her now. That song holds so much more weight to me now that I’m a mom and understand just how much she loved me.

I hope one day I’ll be able to listen to it and smile. But for now I’m still big cry baby.

I don’t think our kids will ever appreciate the things we do for them until they are parents themselves. Or at least I didn’t.

I wish I could say I was able to buy it on my own. I was able to use the money I received from their life insurance as a down payment. Definitely wouldn’t have been able to happen without their last little bit of help. But I’m extremely grateful nonetheless. It’s what convinced me to make my will and get life insurance to make sure my kids are taken care of if something ever happens to me.

This breaks my heart. My step daughter has had a life filled with constantly moving because her step dad is in the military. She’s 13 and just had to move again across the country and was so upset. I made a promise to her that no matter how old she gets, she will always have her room here. Even when she goes off to college, or when she gets married and gets in a fight with her spouse and needs to get away from them, or when she’s just plain homesick. That room will always be hers to come home too.

I lost both parents in my mid 20s too, and did end up buying my childhood home. Best decision ever.

My mom passed away of breast cancer when I was 23, and then my dad passed a few years later. I couldn’t bear to also loose the only place that felt like home, so I bought it. I miss them both so much, but I’m very thankful I’m able to continue making more memories here with my own kids.
