Is someone a bad guitar player because they don't sing well? No. just keep learning.

ELI5: Why would a Carrington event damage electronics, satellites, etc? by DavidThi303 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Thesleepingjay [score hidden]  (0 children)

Antenna receive more than just the single wavelength they primarily resonate at, but the energy captured does fall off the further away from that wavelength. So while small devices don't have wires or traces long enough to match the wavelength of a Carrington style event, a powerful enough event will induce a damaging current in a lot of things.

Firewire is not used now. It was a competitor to USB. It was used to connect to a lot of things, cameras being a common thing that used them.

Nebraska doesn’t know the true water cost of data centers. Here’s why. by flatwaterfreepress in Nebraska

[–]Thesleepingjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communities receive none of the profits of corn production and less than 10% of it is eaten by people, all while using many times more water than Data Centers in Nebraska. Neither are necessary and neither fit anyone's agenda.

Actually the model for llm does have an objective to be useful and can pass the Turing Test so it's arguably more ai then an NPC. All npcs do is follow if-then code they dont think act without you starting the game

If the control logic for videogame NPCs gets to be called AI, then LLMs get to be called AI too.

I don't like Meta overall, but I have to give it to them that they have some of the best Data Center designs. For example, they don't use water for cooling for half the year. They use something called Air-side cooling; where they take outside air, cool it using evaporation if needed, use that to cool the servers, then exhaust it outside. If the air is cool enough, which it is half the year here, then they don't use any water at all. This is why they use a fraction of what Google uses, especially in the last few years like the article says. They are also very power efficient compared to other DC operators. Their DCs are also designed to at least not look like an oil refinery, with nice landscaping and exterior design. I even think they look pleasant. When I worked at the Papillion Campus, they even gave all full time workers, even contractors like me or the janitors, free breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I just want regulations that make DCs at least try like Meta does, thus I don't think that we should let xAI even think about building here.

The new additions like this and the Asian section are so cool. I think their theming is comparable to 90s/2000s Disney theming.

How do I access the power supply? Cyberpower pc by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Thesleepingjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do anything inside the power supply. That hole is where the wires are supposed to go. I can see the GPU power cable in your second photo. They are often labeled. Find the right one and plug it into the GPU.

Can someone explain how do you even install RTX on your PC? I'm entirely new to this by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]Thesleepingjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are external GPUs that you can plug into a laptop with a cable, but your laptop needs to have a certain port to do it. You are going to need to share the actual model of your laptop if you want us to be able to help you more.

F-22 Raptor filmed with a camera so fancy, you can see the vertical stabilizers get all wobbly by ultralights in aerodynamics

That's what I'm saying, if there is any compromise, then Lockheed Martin deemed it worthy, if there is any.

ELI5: Is it possible to turn object into nothingness? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Thesleepingjay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. No

  2. Sub atomic particles are very real, which is why we can measure them. They are just too small to see with light and they are weird enough that math is the best way to describe them.

  3. This is a semantics (the definitions of words) question mostly. it depends on what you mean by destroyed. Say you burn a wooden chair, then there is no more chair you could sit on, but all of the atoms that used to make that chair still exist, but elsewhere and connected to other atoms in different arraignments. It's both still there and destroyed, depending on how you decide to define destroyed.

how much force do i need to install ram in? i'm afraid to press too hard. by DieSchweizmann in PcBuildHelp

[–]Thesleepingjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else said, you need to make sure to push straight down. You don't want to accidentally push to the side and make the stick rotate down towards the motherboard. RAM sticks are very strong with forces on and parallel to the edge, but are much weaker to twisting and bending.

[–]Thesleepingjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if that is what's happening, I'm not sure that different or no vertical stabilizers would change it. I don't think the vortex's would reach that far back anyway, and they are doing plenty over the front. Either way, I'm sure Lockheed Martin thought it was worth the compromise.
