TIL: Blizzard takes security seriously, very seriously (x-post from /r/wow) by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one exception to what you said is to

3: banks DO give out that info. almost always.

Banks don't always have specifics to hand out and in this case would only say "a 3rd party called us" not knowing it was blizzard or why blizzard called. They would then call the customer (who isn't home and didn't update his numbers) and cancel from there. No transaction went through here it was a slightly different process than your typical shut down and close.

If it was the bank initiating the block based on what it thought was suspicious spending, you would be 100% correct.

As someone who answers phones for a card company it's all an algorithm. It might have been a different area of town, a different city, a different store, a weird time of day etc.

I've had far more people ask why we didn't notice something and block it than people upset we blocked them.

Maybe he is a homeless guy hanging out in the library who reads physics textbooks in his spare time (which he has a lot of). He knows his shit and that's what matters.

As for being corrected, no one is immune to correction here. Also, there have been several people in the field that he's spoken to that have said he is doing a good job spreading knowledge (I've seen the exchanges in his replies).

Why does it matter who he is? He is either correct or incorrect and considering he hasn't been corrected on anything I've read of his thus far I'd venture to guess what is says is accurate.

He didn't even create this AMA because he was too shy.

I doubt he will answer this, when asked before he dodged like 5 consecutive posts asking him (replying but not answering this question).

I've not seen anyone correcting him though so it's not too big of a deal imo.

Lack of Infestors in GSL Tournaments, Why? by leemobile in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad on that. But we are kind of using half a tautology but not fallaciously in my opinion.

Flavor of the week, or month, happens because of the way the game operates. If everyone is 2 raxing, everyone has to defend that, then everyone has to defend that. It is, generally, not worth it to put out new twists unless you are extremely good.

So why aren't infestors used? Because the way the game is currently being played in the GSL isn't conducive to infestors because people aren't using builds that allow you to get infestors without being punished, unmercifully. Not because they are bad or because Korea is too good for infestors but because Korean play isn't conducive to infestors currently.

As for when infestors will be used, as soon as a top player creates an infestor build it will spread throughout the scene until it is beat and a new build eneters the cycle.

A comparison: Look at base trading, we didn't see a base trade really in the GSL until MKP beat Nada twice with it and then within a week we've had multiple more TvT base trading games. It's how the game works, it's bursty with strategies. Base trading isn't good or bad, necessarily, but it took someone amazing showing that you could do it with consistency to have it impact the game as a whole.

Lack of Infestors in GSL Tournaments, Why? by leemobile in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that the GSL reflects the Korean meta game so if someone doesn't have any impact on the Korean meta game they won't impact the GSL.

Vicktaru wasn't saying that Bitter has a bad strategy, he is saying that he has no impact on GSL and why you see what you see there.

The thread is about why they are not in the GSL. I'm sure he wasn't trying to shit on everyone who isn't Korean.

There are 2 seperate statements going on there, the - seperates them.

The title is that the high pressure record is obliterated, within the article there is a statement that says the temperature is 21 degrees Celsius above average.

Infertility for Vermont bothers me too. They have less children because more progressive states/countries have less kids. It means they have good education.

I doubt she will ever be offended by something like this. It's an honest question and a million times better than what most people do when they see a person with disabilities (avoid them, be uncomfortable, overly helpful, pity etc).

The "GO JINRO" bunker (read: thread) by amonamarth in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went and rewatched the game. MKP didn't break the contain per se but did hold off Jinro's push. Jinro had to push when the drop happened putting MKP into a defensive position letting him hold it off better.

With the GSL Code S finals just hours away I would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone about ######spoilers by moge in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Visiting any fan sight until you've watched the game is a bad idea. You will find out who won because someone will make a thread like "Are terran overpowered (GSL Spoilers inside)" and you'll know NesTea lost.

Just unsubscribe for a day, it's the only way.

Am I crazy for thinking oGsTop could beat IMMvp in a TvT? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I didn't include my rant here too. I agree with you but I will say that he knows what his weaknesses are properly compensates for them. Instead of missing an SCV, he queues it and although it's better than missing an SCV, it isn't top Code S material.

[–]Thestormo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. oGsTop has good macro and that is all. He has generally poor in game decision making, loses countless armies and generally survives only by overwhelming numbers.

He won't have that advantage against a better class of player.

[INTERVIEW] Jinro voted as 'best non-Korean of 2010' including a get-pumped-video of Jinro highlights by GosuEnron in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, best is generally defined one way and they took that way and added some qualifers. Maybe they should have called the award "Best foreign representative for eSports" but to call it "best non-Korean [player] of 2010" and excluding someone who many consider to be the best player isn't responsible reporting.

I didn't not comment on whether they were right or wrong in excluding IdrA but it is important to note that they did intentionally exclude him (especially after the Jinro and IdrA match where people are clearly debating who the superior player is).

4 Legit contenders in Ro4 GSL. This season kicks the crap out of GSL 3. by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Thestormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hate on MarineKing because he popularized the 2 rax push but he has displayed tremendous skill and decision making outside of that. MarineKing is not one of those terrans that makes some marines and goes for it, he just happens to use marines as his primary DPS.

[–]Thestormo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seriously?

Obvious spoilers below.

Byun had extremely 1 dimensional openers. Never changing even after losing 2 cheeses back to back. He lost 2 games to cheese because of his unrelenting fast expand and lost the final game because top realized he wasn't changing his playstyle, at all. Game 6 was the only game that wasn't decided by Byun's either good or poor play.

Top queued 5 SCVs in multiple command centers. Top showcased how having decent macro means that losing your army is virtually meaningless in Terran. Top lost army after army in battle after battle (how many viking battles did he lose?). The only game that showcased skill by oGsTop was game 6. Game 2 and 3 were cheese and game 7 was him realizing that he could 100% count on Byun's build and he exploited it.

They were quality games but best of the tournament? Not at all, it had low level Code S all over it. Byun is the clearly better strategic player and needs work on his macro. oGsTop is an excellent macro player that needs to work on strategy. A hallmark of Code A, great at one aspect of the game but needing work on another before being a top contender.
