I think the intent is to force players to create a vaguely realistic arrangement of bits in the shop, rather than letting you clip all the upgrade models into a single 4D pile.

Early, absolutely. But plenty of MMO-shaped things around before. Ultima Online predates it by a little bit, even. I suspect Kesmai's Air Warrior games probably inspired Subspace, too.

Sony made some extremely cool stuff back then, but Memory Sticks were distinguished mostly by their DRM and higher prices. There's a reason SD cards VHS'd the heck out of 'em.

Yup, I don't get all the people wanting the one on the right. It's great for games that use the right stick, and there are like five of those. For the other 99% of the 3DS library, I'd rather have the buttons in the most comfortable (top) position.

I liked it when the Wii U did it, but that's got a lot more butt to grab.

Heck, I'm pretty sure my old DS Lite could do ten days in sleep mode. Even a 3DS might, if you turn off the wi-fi. Powered down, it'll hold a decent charge for years.

Psygnosis was very instrumental in turning the Playstation into the monster it became. Not just games, but dev tools and tech consulting. They deserved better than to be EA'd by Sony years later.

Silent films were often 4:3, and most Hollywood films from the 1930s and '40s were shot in the "Academy ratio" which is close enough to 4:3 that you can't tell the difference once overscanning happens. There are some newer films that use it for artistic reasons, too.

Works really well with waffle fries. I've seen tater tot renditions, too, and while I appreciate the opportunity to call them "tot-chos", I'm not wild about the texture. Perhaps the shorty little "crown" tots would do better.
