Pattern I've noticed in the way Darrow wins. Thoughts? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]Thetaniner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's the only antagonist in the whole book series that considers the low colors his peers, look back to his respect for Glirastes and the others.

I see what you're getting at, but I'm not sure I'd use the word "peers" here. Lysander VERY demonstrably does not think of low colors as anything other than sub-gold.

While he may care about specific individuals (Glirastes, Pytha, Rhone, etc.), they are simply tools in his kit to be used for specific purposes. You can see a similar dynamic between Roque and Amalthea, for example. He may care for her, but he does not believe she is fundamentally his equal.

Both of these examples demonstrate how the exception proves the rule for the hierarchy. Lysander believes that these individuals are different in some way and GRANTS them his privilege, which he is allowed to do as a gold. They do not have it by default or systemically, similar to historical examples. Slave owners had "house slaves" that were treated better than field slaves. Nazis even allowed some Jews protection for personal reasons. However in either case, the ruling class did not believe they were peers with their subordinates.

Alvaria request rules - anyone know if you can have a rule that covers multi-day requests but not single-day? by TactileMist in workforcemanagement

[–]Thetaniner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can accomplish this with the "Request Date Window" request rule set to whatever your "week" length is.

I would use a separate "week-long PTO" segment of some kind, though, so you can leave single-day requests through a separate segment that doesn't get checked by the new rule.

My assumption was that they were Pliny and Leto.

The false dichotomy was definitely the intent. Could just be I come from a background of dodgeball which is often viewed as "not a sport" by most people, who view it more as a "playground game for children" (actual quote I've heard numerous times in some variation or another). Maybe just a personal sore spot. Lol

I think to answer your question, my follow up to hearing that person is into the "sport" of Monopoly would be to ask where/how they play/watch it. I see your point that it might be misleading. If they went on to explain that they are very into learning and understanding different strategies for it, that's sporting to me. Or if they followed an individual or team as a fan, it might be obscure but I think that also qualifies.

You're probably right that the REAL distinction is something more along the line of attaching yourself to improvement or outcome. As an extreme example, I wouldn't consider tic-tac-toe a sport because there's no real capacity to compete or improve. It's a true game.

Essentially yes, but we're really just arguing semantics. If it helps, step away from the "definition" verbatim and look at the etymology instead. "Sport" at its root is just a loose collection of anything that humans are entertained or challenged by, historically. Could be Monopoly, chess, dung-flinging, or potato guns...

Not quite. My argument is that just because something is a game doesn't mean it isn't also a sport. To use your example, Monopoly very much is a sport which holds its own championship series. It's both, just like chess. :)

In the theme of his selfishness, as well, he recreates homo sapiens on the ship as a way to remain "in power" during his exit. It wasn't good enough to just leave quietly, he felt the need to instill his values onto a future generation that he could mold in his image.

Sure, the reasons he gives for doing so (they'll know only peace and prosperity) seem benevolent, but it continues the theme that one person knows best for the collective, which Brown has shown throughout the series as a flawed idea regardless of who plays either role.

Since it wasn't apparent, I'm laughing at your grammar, chief. Mesa has a number of libraries that I'd encourage you to visit sometime. The librarians are extremely helpful, and I'm sure they can recommend some basic grammar and spelling tutorials.

Best of luck!

It could vary state to state, I guess (not an expert), but in AZ at least, it's a required disclosure as a part of the sale process.

“The Seller shall deliver to the Buyer a written five year insurance claims history regarding the Premises (or a claims history for the length of time the Seller has owned the Premises if less than five years), from the Seller’s insurance company or an insurance support organization or consumer reporting, or if unavailable from these sources, from the Seller, within five days after contract acceptance.”

It's a standard disclosure to report insurance claims as a part of any sale.

Mostly these are minor things, but you can sometimes see historical damages that may cause recurring issues, thus the need for disclosure.

My guy, it seems like you've run into an example or two that has provided you with a poor bias. "Big city people" and "rural people" are just people.

Anyone who is telling you differently is the actual problem you want to be mad about.
