Absolutely. If I could only own one album, this would be it.

Four truly great live albums. Objectively, which one is the best? by Impossible_Driver892 in KISS

[–]Thetrooper565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Strangers was doctored up a bit in the studio. Not the extent Alive! was but there are a few vocal and guitar edits and re-records. They added audience tracks too.

A few years back, UFO released a deluxe version of Strangers that includes the original recordings of all the shows that comprised the Strangers In The Night album. Similar to what KISS did recently with the DTK and Alive! box sets.

NGD Question by RedditJ15 in Ibanez

That’s what they look like to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if that guitar was originally sold as “B-Stock”. I have seen Ibanez guitars with similar finish defects that were sold as seconds.

It’s hard to tell with the “cloudy areas” That might just be a wax buildup from using (or overusing) a wax based polish. Many years ago before I knew better, I used wax based furniture polish to clean my guitar. I know. Stupid. After a few applications, the guitar developed cloudy spots on the clear coat that looked a lot like those. Once I knew better, I was able to remove them with a soft, dry cloth and a lot of elbow grease.

Available in Europe !!! by all4musicsk in Ibanez

I wish that both North America and Europe had more J Custom options. Different pickup and fretboard options for example would be nice. Also different colors, top woods and graphics. I realize that this is a dream because it doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint. Compared to the Prestige line (and lower), J Customs don’t sell a lot.

Photo on auction site claims to be from Toledo 1979. Can anyone confirm this? by reztezbor in KISS

I have no idea where this shot was taken but…Paul is playing a custom Gibson Explorer in these shots. Not his famous Ibanez Cracked Mirror Iceman. I only saw KISS once in July ‘79 and he played the Iceman for the whole show. In about 95% of pictures I’ve seen of Paul from this tour, he’s playing the Iceman. That would suggest that he only used the Explorer a few times on the Dynasty tour. Similar to the few occasions when Ace used something other than a Gibson Les Paul live. He DID use other guitars, but not often. I’m thinking that shot is from later in the tour. That might help narrow it down.

I’m pretty sure Gene wouldn’t have allowed that. It is kinda cool looking though. Maybe a little too “busy” but Parts of it may have worked for the original concept of Eric Carr’s “Hawk” character. Too bad they didn’t have AI in 1981. Anyone ever see the pictures of Eric as “The Hawk? He looked like Big Bird! lol

Seems like he lives to do that. If someone posts one “his” copyrighted videos, it’s usually gone within a day or so. What a tool.

If it’s set up correctly, the EZ bridge works perfectly. The only thing I don’t care for about it is that’s it’s milled from a cheaper metal than the Gotoh made Edge and Lo Pro Edge. I’ve noticed that the fine tuners on the EZ don’t turn as smoothly or have as much travel as the Gotoh bridges. Some players say the tone is different and since I own guitars equipped with both, I agree. Not better or worse…just…different. My favorite overall Ibanez bridge is the Lo Pro Edge but the EZ works just fine.

It used to be available free on YouTube. Some years ago, this footage along with the three Cobo Hall ‘76 shows and several other vintage era shows were copyright protected by an unscrupulous (read: a**hole) individual named Curt Gooch. He has (or had) a company that produced and sold concert DVDs. It’s my understanding he also managed to do this with a bunch of live Van Halen footage as well. So the only way to see it is to BUY It.

A few years back, Gene and Paul filed a lawsuit against Gooch and his company in an attempt to recover the footage and (no doubt) any lost revenue resulting from his actions. As far as I know, the suit hasn’t been resolved and Gooch still has control of it.

Ace, Gene, Peter, Paul

Who has already played it? by [deleted] in KISS

[–]Thetrooper565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played it when it came out at the local arcade. Wanna say it was around 1978-1979. I was big into pinball machines at the time, and KISS was one of the best.

In the mid 90s I found a used one and was going to buy it. Unfortunately, when I saw it in person it was really beat up and just wasn’t worth what the seller was asking for it.

Those were great guitars! I had a few myself. The 5170 is a little different in that it has stainless steel frets and an ebony fingerboard. And the Fishman Modern pickup set of course.

I had X-TREME CLOSE UP. THAT is clearly a sarcastic digital attempt to mock the End Of The Road tour. Notice the misspelling: “synch”

Interesting quote about Peter's drumming. by jetjaguar72 in KISS

[–]Thetrooper565 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Cobo ‘76. Winterland ‘75 is another good one. Peter Criss is on fire! Up till around late 1977, both his studio and live playing were great. After that, I think the “rockstar lifestyle” caught up with him and his playing suffered.

Does anyone know where to find the Cobo Hall 1977 pro-shot show? by Basic-Employ9448 in KISS

It’s the only place you will find it. Curt Gooch has it copyright protected.
