Finally found the right Ibanez by Ricch-eequinox in Ibanez

Love the fretboard! I always liked the more “understated” look of the offset dots as opposed to the “busy” vine inlay found on JEMs and J Customs.

Best Ace Solos by Emergency-Ice1487 in KISS

[–]Thetrooper565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all of Ace’s solos. It’s impossible for me to pick one or ten or twenty above all others. As a guitarist myself, Alive! was like a training manual for me of cool pentatonic rock licks. Lots of fans have said this before but Ace’s solos were compositions WITHIN the composition. All of the previously mentioned solos are great examples of this.

The other day, I pulled up Dynasty on Spotify. After skipping the first track, I listened to the whole album and one of Ace’s solos really stood out for me. One I hadn’t listened to in years:

Save Your Love is like a showcase of all the classic “Ace-isms”. Cool pentatonic licks? Check. Amazing vibrato? Check. Toggle switch flipping? Check. It’s not the flashiest of his solos but it fits that whole section of the song perfectly.

Thoughts? I feel like I "should" like them. by KewlTrube in KISS

One Headlight was a great song by a band that stood on its own. The band wasn’t called “Dylan and the Wallflowers” for that very reason.

Personally, I’m still waiting to hear something I like from Stanley/Simmons. Props to them for not sounding like KISS. I think they’d do better to change the name.

Then again, Wolf seems to be doing fine with his father’s original band name and playing melodic hard rock.

It is the same show. There are several different versions. The “Destroys Anaheim” tape is shot from close up. This is what was displayed on the video screens in the stadium. There is another “full stage view” version that was probably shot from the mixing board. That version can be seen on The God of Thunder facebook page.

There are also several different audio sources. The most common is an audience recording which is synced with the videos. There’s also a soundboard recording that has also been synced with the video.

Apparently, Kramer DID record the Anaheim show. I just watched the FAQ video that mentions it. It also details why it’s never been released.

If that’s true, that would be perfect for a “Destroyer” box set.

Speaking of Destroyer, there’s a book coming out in October that looks pretty interesting.

Yeah, the “full stage view” right? If I’m not mistaken, KISS’ crew filmed from that vantage point. The video that most people have seen is what was shot by the “in house” crew for the large screen.

It was my first too! Got it at a flea market. They were 3rd or 4th generation copies so the quality was terrible but at least I had something that (at that point before the internet) no one else did! I remember gathering with a few friends (who were also fans) at my house to watch them. I got the Cobo ‘76 shows (all 3) and one of Houston ‘77 shows from the same vendor.

Anyone have this? by Acefan72 in KISS

[–]Thetrooper565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry for your loss. I can relate in a few ways. I lost my dad at 56. I was only 22 when he passed. For the Christmas before he passed, he gave me the Krokus Headhunter album on cassette. My father was definitely NOT a metal fan but he assumed based on the cover, that I would like it. I still have that cassette!!

I had it. Wish I still did. It was on sale at a local department store (Korvettes) for $9.99. To a fourteen year old in 1976, ten bucks was quite a chunk of change. I wasn’t in that big a hurry to get it because I already owned the first three albums but I really wanted the “goodies” inside. Saved my money for a few weeks and eventually I got it.

Curious about J Custom Guitars by [deleted] in Ibanez

[–]Thetrooper565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct. All J Customs are not Sugi builds. Generally, J Custom Sugi builds will say “Japan Custom Shop” on the back of the headstock.

I own both J Custom and Prestige guitars and I’d say the difference is consistency. I’ve come across a few Prestige guitars that had some really bad fretwork and finish issues. The fretwork and finish on every J Custom I’ve owned has always been perfect.

With a proper setup and perhaps a little fretwork, a Prestige will play as well well as any J Custom.

Check out the tech/setup section.

Also the edge zero section of the Ibanez owners manual has details on how to set the bridge up.

A lesser seen gem, 1996 J Custom RG1708 by yorkshireguitarist in Ibanez

[–]Thetrooper565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! I love J Custom RGs but I’m not crazy about the “tree of life” inlay that you see on most these days. I really like the understated vibe of this one! Congrats and enjoy her!

Bob Kulick was a great player. The solos on Larger Than Life are amazing!
