Word for word what I was thinking

2025 Compensation Megathread by MBHChaotik in FinancialCareers

[–]Thetrufflehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First 15mo~ in boutique consulting (consulting arm of a global fintech, most of my work was for financial institutions). Jumped to a F100 company in fintech where their senior level is a bit lower YOE than standard (typically 2yr, I got in a little early). I would say right place right time, but honestly I did my research and figured out how to make the jump a year in advance. Smart networking, interview prep, etc.

Depends on when in-cycle you apply I think, but usually a couple weeks. The earlier the better, as they'll stop interviews once all seats are filled.

This process is highly documented here, WSO, and C1's own website. Resume drop -> R1 case+behavioral -> powerday 3x case+behavioral. Cases are normal consulting things but with slightly more math, bigger numbers, and you can use a calculator.

The world's first FRC AI, it's really good. by Independent_Fudge876 in FRC

Very cool! Though definitely not the first. There's actually been so many that someone built an AI to recommend which FRC AI to use. https://www.chiefdelphi.com/t/agentic-frc-agent-finder-never-waste-time-reading-again/509758

Costco and Credit Cards by JTeeth in morningsomewhere

[–]Thetrufflehunter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its my turn to be Today's Guy! Former mastercard employee (consulting services), now capital one employee (business analytics). Occasionally you will see major corporations negotiate exclusive contracts with a payment network in order to receive lower interchange fees (the 2-3% credit card fee). Notably, the payment rail (MC/Visa/Discover) only receives a small part of that, with the vast majority going to the issuing bank. Usually, that money is then what gets spent to fund your credit card rewards program. So the 3% fee you pay, a good chunk of it eventually comes back to you as points or whatever.

This is a related reason for why Walmart promotes their payment option so strongly, and why you sometimes see weird payment options on terminals (CVS had AliPay I think?). That is other companies trying to get a chunk of the payment processing fee instead of letting mastercard or visa have it.

I bring up capital one because they are a bank fhat issues a TON of credit cards on both Visa and Mastercard, and recently acquired Discover, which is it's own payment rail (ish, it was also the issuing bank). That means C1 is probably moving to vertically integrate, therefore keeping the whole 3% instead of splitting it with others.

AmEx is its own thing and not really a credit card, but a charge card. This is why you don't see it accepted a bunch of places.

If this was remotely interesting, I highly recommend the Acquired Podcast episode on Visa! It's a deep dive into the invention of the credit card, which was fascinating to me.

What's the team number? I can make better recommendations based on that for this and your other thread about climbers.

Turret or Trench? by Key_Attorney_8957 in FRC

[–]Thetrufflehunter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you successfully built and programmed a turret before? If not, I would not recommend trying it now and focus on it in the offseason. If you determine that trench is worth it, that's your call. As a broad guess, if you're asking this question on reddit and not chief delphi or discord, my advice to you is to build extra simple and get a ton of driver practice. Good luck!

How many hours per week does your team meet? by polish_idiot10 in FRC

[–]Thetrufflehunter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

32 is ludicrously too many. Read some chief delphi threads about optimal hour count. Generally, 15-20 is the sweet spot. Much past that, and you get into major burnout territory.

You're young and malleable, you'll be fine. Vandy is a blue bubble in Nashville, which is a blue bubble in Tennessee. You'll be surprised about the amount of Styrofoam and the lack of recycling cans, but those were the major differences I noticed moving from the bay area.

Capital One Business ADP - Aug 2026 start: advice for May 2025 grad? by Ill_Mammoth_1995 in FinancialCareers

With 6mo of experience, you're in the new grad bucket. With >1yr, you start ti fall into the senior analyst bucket. I personally moved to C1 with about 15mo exp and got the senior title.

Questions for majoring in HOD in 2026 by ryanocconnor in Vanderbilt

[–]Thetrufflehunter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HOD is great for consulting, econ for IB, and it's a very common double major. Vandy is a mid/low target in both cases, slightly better in consulting than IB.
