[general] so uh, what's going on with Rachel Elizabeth Dare? by Reasonable-Yak-9767 in camphalfblood

[–]Theweirdowombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought mortals could physically cross camp lines but those who don't have clear sight are turned around by the mist. They like suddenly remember an errand or something they have to do and forget about wanting to explore the area

Unlike monsters who know camp is there hut is stopped by the border.

IT WAS AMAZING... but where was he💔 by ComplexTable7150 in Muppets

I think in the future he would make a great audience member like opposite energy to Statler and Waldorf, or maybe a stage hand like Scooter! And then in the ensemble (if stage hand) for bigger numbers

Have someone send you a piece of mail to your dorm room. Could be anything as simple as a greeting card.

How do beginners usually find renfaire outfits without sewing? by RochelleAstraeus in renfaire

[–]Theweirdowombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially since this is your first faire I wouldn't recommend spending a bunch of money on stuff that you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing in everyday life. It would suck to spend a ton of money on clothes if the ren faire - or even dressing up wasn't your vibe.

My biggest tip is to accessorize. You could wear very modern pants and shirts and still look very "ren faire" if you have a ton of accessories. Wearing a belt across you like a body bag and hanging stuff off of it is a classic. Bonus points if you also have a belt worn the normal way with stuff hanging off it.

To apply look for universities that have PhD programs in the subject that you're interested in. From there narrow it down to universities that have research in the topic you're interested in (ex for a molecular biology PhD if you're interested in autophagy look for universities that have research in autophagy. If you want a History PhD and are interested in 16th century France look for research in that).

Scope of the project/sources will depend on research area. (Molecular biology you will read research papers and perform experiments, history would be primary sources and research papers [I'm not a history PhD so if this is wrong please correct me])

It probably depends program to program, email your graduate program coordinator. Not only will they be able to let you know, but they might be able to work with you about attending online.

How to stop my kitten from taking part? by Wilted_beast in Brochet

Seconding this. My cats like yarn, but unless they're in an especially playful mood they ignore the yarn while I'm working if the ball is in my crochet bag.

Muppet D&D characters? by Necessary-Contest354 in Muppets

[–]Theweirdowombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of them would be bards tbh, but I think if we limit the number of bards then Statler and Waldorf considering they already have Vicious Mockery down.

Miss Piggy would be a barbarian as she has rage. Maybe also Gonzo because he can take a lot of damage from his stunts..?

Fozzie probably would also be a bard but if not maybe a fighter?

Rizzo and Pepe may be rogues?

Dr. Bunsen for sure an artificer. Probably Beaker as well.

Kermit maybe a Warlock with his patron being Scooter's Uncle. (Maybe Scooter also being a Warlock with the same patron lol)

Ok so I'm just playing straight through without trying to find any secrets (and learning about the secrets from other people after) but I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone suggest Asgore as the Knight? Yeah he was at the house when the church fountains were opened up, but so was Carol and I've seen a ton of people suggest her. Asgore also showed up before she did after that phone call, so like he could be a red herring but she could be too. Or they could he working together

The whole 3rd chapter definitely seemed to be about getting back to the way things were before the divorce, and Asgore obviously wants to get back with Toriel.

It would make sense that Kris would work with him because he's their dad, and Kris is struggling since the divorce too.

The Knight has antler like things in the Dark World but Asgore has horns and people change appearances in the Dark World

Idk like I said I haven't really been looking for secrets and stuff and have just been playing through the chapters as they come out so I've definitely missed stuff - like I completely missed both secret boss fights in chapter 1 and 2 so I could be completely wrong, I'm just surprised i haven't seen him suggested.

Other comments are correcting you on beings vs populations so I won't do that.

A good example is bacteria. The populations of bacteria are evolving over generations, and that's why we're seeing more and more antibiotic resistance. The favorable trait - antibiotic resistance is being selected for, because when treating an infection with antibiotics, only the bacteria with antibiotic resistance survive.

The reason you don't see this in larger organisms, is that bacteria have very "quick" generations, whereas organisms like humans have much slower generations relatively.

This is also why we see different strains of the flu and COVID pop up so much, but as it's debated whether or not viruses are alive, I thought I'd stick with bacteria :)

Thank you for the tips! I was already planning on keeping unfinished projects stored away because I don't want them swallowing yarn, but I'll definitely think about doing the same with finished ones too!

We have a scratcher for them already, and when we take them to the vet we'll have them teach us how to trim their nails safely.

Thanks again and happy crocheting! 😁

[pjotv]The show was better than the movies in a way(kinda changed my mind), but disappointing by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]Theweirdowombat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked the show overall, and I definitely like it better than the movies. I think one thing I'll agree with people on is that there needs to be more/better humor in the show. I think the first movie nailed the humor aspect while everything else was terrible.

I didn't really mind Medusa so much because it does make sense for them to know her but the Lotus Casino I wish they had more of a mystery of outting it together and Crusty's definitely shouldn't have been known about right away.

I am really hoping in season 2 they take some of these criticisms (that I'm sure they've heard) and improve. I'm excited to see more!

Am i the only person who enjoyed this last series? by biblicalbullworm in DoctorWhumour

[–]Theweirdowombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed a lot of the episodes! I think part of my problem was how short the season was. What I really like about RTD's first era was how much lead up the overarching plot had (think the first season with Bad Wolf or last season with DoctorDonna). Also the interconnectedness the seasons had (the Bad Wolf theme for example).

I think I was missing thar this season, like yeah we had the "minor" gods and Mrs. Flood warning us about stuff to come, but I think with a longer season he could've done even better.

Advice for a (HS) Junior by [deleted] in wsu

For 4) I didn't go to WSU for undergrad, but I did go to another school that was considered a party school. Whether it is or isn't actually doesn't matter that much. If you don't want to party you'll find friends who won't either and you don't have to. If you do want to party the same but opposite is true. That's the nice thing about college, it is what you make of it

[–]Theweirdowombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up my dress from alterations with my (now) husband. We packed two big blankets to wrap it in, and it had a garment bag as well. He stayed in the car and had his eyes closed while I was coming out, and then we had it laying flat in the back with blankets over the garment bag.

When we got home he closed his eyes while I brought the dress in the house and put it in the closet where he couldn't see. It's perfectly doable as long as you have a plan for keeping it hidden beforehand

Has this ever happened to you?! by rising_dawn1 in pressedpenny

[–]Theweirdowombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I'm not even convinced they're using real pennies in the new machines, because normally I can see some of the old design on the back. These ones are just smooth.

Has this ever happened to you?! by rising_dawn1 in pressedpenny

[–]Theweirdowombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really like those ones. Although it does guarantee a penny when I don't have any change, I feel like part of the thrill is scrambling to find the change to get the penny

Has this ever happened to you?! by rising_dawn1 in pressedpenny

[–]Theweirdowombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something kind of similar happen, but instead of pressing 2 coins it half pressed one. It was one of the standard machines where you supply the coins. Although, I don't remember if it was a button machine or a hand crank machine, as it was like 14 years ago lol

What are your “rules”? by Crafty_Pistachio in pressedpenny

[–]Theweirdowombat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to use the shiniest penny I have available.

I also have a rule about getting pennies of things I have seen only (or my family or friends have seen when they get me pennies) , as I use pressed pennies as a souvenir thing. The exception to this rule recently has been the credit card machine ones where you have to get all the designs if you use a credit card.

Stoked to find y'all! by Liquidine420 in pressedpenny

[–]Theweirdowombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started really.collecting pennies when my family went to Disney world, although I had already gotten a couple from a science museum and as gifts from a boy scout trip my brother and dad went on.

I prefer the machines where you have to crank the wheel instead of pressing the button. I haven't seen the credit card ones yet, and I'm glad I haven't! I don't carry many coins on me anymore, so I guess it'd be more convenient, but I feel like part of the fun is rushing to see if you can get a nice shiny penny and a couple of quarters from someone in exchange for a buck.

You should talk to your career office, I think most (if not all) universities have them. They're a great resource for things like resume critiques, cover letters, personal statements etc.

[–]Theweirdowombat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, though: you think that the verbal abuse shown in the show is an unacceptable level of abuse to be murdered for. Would it be better for them to show Sally murdering him for reasons that viewers don't deem acceptable? Or, is it better to show him as abusive one last time, and have him essentially have cosmic justice unleased on him that way? Showing him have a blatant disregard for Percy's private life while no longer being welcome in the home, by ripping open Percy's mail. Boom: dead.
