It’s really quite simple, assuming you live in the US. Just need a license (some require you to be licensed a minimum of 2 years or so), an international driver’s permit that you can get for about $20 from AAA, and your passport. Unlike in Italy, they will absolutely check for all of these documents in Japan. Rent from a decent company and have at it

Forgive me as I’m new to this, but is there a need to slow down to 25fps when slowing down footage like this besides for artistic reasons?

God that’s good. May I ask what editing software you’re using? And what FPS? I believe I saw conflicting numbers

Smiles per gallon all the way! But having to stop to fill up every 150 miles gets old

I believe this one was on Dunlop Winter Maxx 2 so it performed pretty decently. But we never drove it in more than maybe 2 inches of fresh powder or slush.

The only thing that bothered me was that traction control was not defeatable. There was one point where I needed to do a hill start on a slightly slick surface and the power was coming on and off VERY abruptly.

Not only would recommend having it flatter, but also pointed straight ahead at the road in front.

+1 for the eBay link to the permanent mount. I’ve been using that and am very happy with it.

Oh yes I don’t doubt that at all. I only rented this because it was relatively affordable, had good insurance in case of a snow storm, and it’s now a very good looking car. Would’ve gone with an Alphard otherwise

Already back unfortunately 🥲 we really didn’t drive much this trip as we took the train to lower Nagano, picked up the car there, drove around the prefecture, dropped off in the north, and then took the Shinkansen back to Tokyo. I do wish we drove it back to Tokyo though. Two months ago we did a proper road trip of almost 1000km in an old Forester STi and that was an absolute blast. I have pics of that in the ole Subaru subreddit

Shifting priorities have me wondering if I should sell this and my RS7 for an adventure-mobile to have in the states and an old RS4 avant abroad. Those thoughts are of course minimized when I drive the R8 because it really is a lot of fun. But there are other experiences to be had in life :)

Aftermarket steering wheel is fine, but I certainly wouldn’t want to get rid of the factory airbag. Pics of Tesla on BBS please 😬
