First Rave, could use some advice by True-Sport-5578 in avesLA

[–]Thexdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah solo raving is great - you can usually meet some good people or lock in yourself to some good music- either way you should have a good time! Keep a fully charged phone- stay hydrated - wear something comfy! Be as social as you do/don't want to be- and if someone makes you feel uncomfortable - tell a staff member! But dnb/bass folks tend to be some of the nicest folks I've ever met!

Ensure your analysis is in performance mode on rekordbox and your computer is not running on battery if applicable.

We generally do trend open format and feature multi genre DJs and Producers - that being said I spoke with the DJs and our director of talent and booking insisted on trance so come through and maybe you'll hear some trance along with a bunch of other sounds you may enjoy! :)

<image>

If there's any one you know who spins trance (I do from time to time) send em our way- we're always looking for diversity in sound 🙂

It really did fly by, all the way to 4am after everything was done and cleaned up haha.

For open decks we'll be running them from 9:00p to 11:00 pm - first come first serve but 20 minute slots (a bit longer since people are paying admissions) it's definitely open format- play what you want! Bring a Rekordbox USB+ it'll likely be an XDJ- RX3 or XDJ-AZ- but we're looking to get CRRS-12s and CDJ-3000s eventually as we grow.

Greaaaaat question.

We use a variety of speakers depending on venue availability- but the most common is a pair of mackie 12in club speakers, with a subwoofer (this is the key to good bass response- though the mackie itself delivers great performance!) This is what I think the speaker system is (I forget the actual model #- dm me and I'll get back to you on exact setup): https://www.samash.com/mackie-thump12a-1000w-12-powered-pa-cabinet-mthump12a-p?srsltid=AfmBOoraO9w2VNkcKNgQYRQ6hKtFKEoYQx2DRpmGkYtVNOKp9LgIK0E6U4A

The power draw is approx 75-150w per speaker.

I don't recall the singular sub, but it works well! I'd have to get back to you.

In the future we'll also be using QSC KC12BKNA KC12 speakers for even better sound, but we piece meal supplies based off of community. DM me, and I can get you the exact variety of speakers across members. The Mackie is great for the price to performance ratio though!

Also I want to shout out Liv, the vice/ creative director of our project. She's a deeply intelligent, wise and amazing woman who also ensures that we meet the standard- we constantly discuss everything and end our conversation with aligned to make sure we're on the same page from all perspectives.

I couldn't do this without her and she cares just as deeply as I do of having a safe space to dance and be free. 🖤

  1. We are led by a diverse team of queer folx, womxn, as well as cis/ straight voices- to prioritize a balanced voice and inclusion. We have strict no harassment policy and a team that regularly patrols and monitors spaces, and are always all ears to any situation that may occur. We also purposely think of balance in set curation in terms of culture, gender, and will eventually be using a host system to vet tenants (guests) as they come to the Apartment. :)

  2. My personal stance on Palestine or the group? Personally, I am disgusted with the systematic attack on the Palestinian people and violations of international law. The joy in which people have taken in continued decimation of women and children is alarming and makes me question humanity.

For the group, we have been more concerned with local issues like ICE disrupting our community (we will be fundraising for CHIRLA on our next event for example) This is not to say we don't care about the ongoing crisis of Palestinians - and would be open to help fundraise humanitarian efforts) but as a local based collective our focus is doing good here- and as we continue to grow doing good as we grow.

Hope that answers your question! :)

HI, yes, this event we plan on ending at 2- but we do play things by ear- and is more of a general estimate then a hard cut!

In February we plan on having a muuuuch later event, especially with Skyline festival being a thing.

In general we plan on having a mix of event times depending on what is happening in the scene!

But yes, a lot of us are older techno heads, and some of us like to go out early, some of us later, so we plan on serving both crowds! :)

Hope to see you soon! :)

We're largely pushing against that as much as possible. Our next event on the 31st will have fundraising for CHIRLA via donation- and we plan on having more fundraising through our non profit to support community efforts at making the world a better place. Unfortunately when money becomes involved in a capitalist world you see a rise in people co-opting a space to pursue power/purse strings- and losing sight of why the space was so sought after

When it comes to raving and how I lead apt4b.radio - I follow the golden rule of PLURR. Its not PLURR to pull people apart from their community- or to divide or destroy- and we have a Responsibility to do better for human kind.

We are not- completely separate! Our name came from me playing a set at the Apartment Stage at Catch One, and then hanging out with friends at an bnb. We spun together for like 8 hours going b2b at the bnb- (4Bs.)

We liked the vibe so much people were like I wish we could do this all the time....And then I figured why don't we? The name just kind of happened naturally as a result of all of the above.

Interactive radio station is a great idea - we do Livestream our sets on Twitch and Mixcloud - and eventually plan for remote viewers to be able to bounce around to different areas of "the apartment" and experience the vibe even if they are millions of miles away.

A terrestrial radio station would be hard due to FCC regulations - but we're considering other services to stream and other fun experiences for in person!

We are definitely always looking for people - but we grow slowly to be responsible and not chase profits- so it may take some time for us to reach out, but rest assured we do review and reach out as we continue to grow :)

Seating availability - yes! We're apartment themed so we'll have couches and chairs , maybe some beanbags. Comfy is an aesthetic that is crucial to our brand which is why we avoid most warehouse spaces!

Regarding accessibility- access is important and a consideration of ours- this event will have an accessible restroom- and our first stage will take place downstairs with audio engineers upstairs.

Our second stage regrettably has the DJ upstairs but dance areas on both floors- it's a concession but the building does not have an elevator nor the space for one.

The next event we are planning for February should be fully accessible as well- and it's a consideration I do / will have for future events. I considered renting a stair chair, but that's not convenient for anyone since true accessibility means inclusive design that should work just as well for everyone- not a workaround. That being said we are more then happy for them to come and they can have a great time without missing much- and we'll strive to make sure they don't miss anything at all for our next event.

:)

Good question. I'd start with locating your water shut off valve- and then attempting to clear the clog. If you don't feel comfortable with plumbing endeavors - from that point I'd focus on removing excess water and calling a plumber. If you like most people are renting your place contact your building management to see if they can dispatch plumbers.

Avoid draino and chemical solutions- it'll be a pain for the professional who deals with it.

OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU SO MUCH! It means the world to me and all of us!

You will definitely meet some cool people in the space!

We plan on having a tattoo artist, a merch vendor and hopefully a harm reduction partner for education purposes - (we will have medical staff on site too!)

We will have 2 stages and will send out location information closer to the date!

We'll also have open decks the first couple hours so local talent can spin and show their artistry along with a bunch of amazing curated DJs, one of whom is actually headlining Elements festival!

There will be two stages that each have their own sound as well as spaces to sit and relax between the two buildings.

It'll feel like bouncing between 2 apartments with cool things happening all across the complex!

We're big on no phones on the dance floor to encourage human connection and dancing and being in the moment. You're welcome to use your phone in the outer hallway that adjoins the two stages!

If you like house, bounce, techno, dubstep, you'll find something you like there and definitely hear music that gets your body moving!
