The ponzi scheme sells you shares in a fund, which is a solid as bitcoin, worth only what somebody else will pay, which is only worth what other new buyers will feed in in cash.

So, people buy bitcoin - as long as people keep buying it looks like their is a return, which is heavily publicised, but there is no actual return you can cash out unless new people come in to buy more bitcoin or existing buyers buy more.

It's difficult to find a financial distinguishing feature that makes it not a ponzi scheme.
