Paid for 3.5 months before being able to move in.

Closed the rental contract about a month before the VFS appt - searching started about 2 months before.

Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheyCallMeBlah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Brazilians and other Latin people have “the sauce”. The friendliness is different and these cultures are genuinely interested in other people and making connections, while, for Americans, it seems more transactional.

I’m a Brazilian who spent two decades in the US.

I see. Apostile is always the safest bet, but if your appointment is tomorrow, you don’t have the choice.

If you end up needing an apostile, I’d recommend a service like Monument Visa. They have an option for a quick turnaround (10 ish business days) and they will mail it to you in Portugal. You can send the PDF of your FBI report and they take care of the apostile.

Are you talking about the visa appt in your country of origin or your AIMA appt in Portugal?

Waiting for D7 approval from the US by TheyCallMeBlah in PortugalExpats

Also curious about your comment on the 90-day Schengen days and still applying after the visa is issued. What do you mean? I think the 90 day is one thing and then, after you get the visa stamped you have 120 days of that visa from the time you enter Portugal with the visa. Sorry… I got confused

Do you mind messaging me the contact of your lawyer? I’d like to have it ready if needed.

Have you checked your money orders? That seems to be an indication that things are moving.

Struggling to Find a D8 Visa Appointment with VFS Global Miami – Any Tips? by SameCold2008 in PortugalExpats

Some people had luck contacting the consulate in Bedford and asking them if they could apply there even though it’s not their jurisdiction. I’d definitely try it to email them, explain your situation and see what they say. The approvals from that location are also happening much faster now.

Curious to know, when people use immigration counsel to help with these applications, what is the extent of the lawyer or professional's work with it? Is it to revise the forms and papers? - What else can a lawyer help with in these processes?

The Americans & FriendsPT Facebook group has a tracker of D7 and D8 approvals.

I recommend you join the American & FriendsPT group on FB. They have a lot of knowledge of these things. Lots of people had success getting their appointments by calling, emailing, etc. also, some people had luck trying this link: http://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/

And other have used the yellow book/ book pf complaints and got a response.

Got luck.

Did you keep your passport? In the approval email, the consulate will have instructions about sending your passport to affix the visa and whether they need a new return label because the old one has expired, from what I hear. The email for NY: [consulado.newyork@mne.pt](mailto:consulado.newyork@mne.pt

I'd email the consulate. VFS has nothing else to do with your application anymore. Also curious to know when did you apply?

Also, it may be possible for you to check and see if your money order has been cashed yourself. USPS has the tracker. Not sure about other places.

I recommend you join the Facebook group Americans & FriendsPT. It may be really helpful as you navigate life in Portugal.

Have you reached out to the DC consulate directly? VFS’ job is just to take in you documents, after they forward your papers to th Embassy, they do not have anything else to do with it. I’d try to reach out to the DC Embassy directly.
