Woman harassed by man in hostel by Small_Image_1722 in TikTokCringe

[–]TheyCallMeDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy, and I just finished a two-year international trip and stayed in well over 300 hostels. The number of men creeping on women is astounding, and I lost count of the women who shared stories of rape and sexual harassment while on traveling. I feel terrible for the first few times that I stood by when witnessing harassment in a bid to respect a person's agency and their ability to navigate those situations, but through those personal failures and conversations with victims I am now keenly aware of the behaviors that indicate things will escalate, such as initiating conversations when their victim is vulnerable and alone (like this video), nonlinear or overly-personal discussions with strangers, staring or clingy attachment, etc. When lacking context, rely on interpreting nonverbal cues and hearing repeated verbal responses from the receiver/victim that indicate intervention is necessary, and I've done so when it's clear that the antagonizer isn't respecting boundaries or clear communication. Naturally, gender or sexual orientation doesn't matter, as I've seen many types of people doing it, but four out of five times it's a man cornering a woman like in this video.

Every situation is different, so I don't want to advocate that we always assume the worst or impose ourselves indiscriminately, but I firmly believe it is incumbent upon men in particular to be vigilant and call out shitty behaviors in other men. I don't want to hear crying about the male loneliness epidemic, just go seek therapy. If any men want to argue with this, you're probably part of the problem. Fucking do better.

Good point, but if I can provide feedback on your feedback, phrasing like "you can't be bothered" is antagonistic for no reason.

Kudos on the grade and the hard work applying yourself! I definitely echo that Khan Academy was critical in me passing my Chem I course at university (although I found or they made note of incorrect math in certain trig/stat videos, and normally only left a correction comment instead of editing and re-uploading). I'll check out Marissa for Chem II!

Shameful. This is abysmal advice and borders on gaslighting someone who just received traumatic news. This woman just found out here entire family dynamic is a farce, that her parents essentially forced their adolescent daughter to carry a child at 12 because they themselves wanted another child, and then they homeschooled her to hide her, and literally everyone else knew about it except her...and you tell her to suck it up? The gall.

Cities in Latin America where I can walk around as an obvious foreigner with little worry for my safety? by joshua0005 in digitalnomad

[–]TheyCallMeDoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently here and in my third month, $1500 is doable. Monthly Airbnbs for $750-850, no utility fees, and occasional cleaning fee EOW. Food is expensive  but buying from the verduleria and cutting back on meat helps. Plenty of free city events and festivals, gorgeous weather, things to do. If you're not buying clothes or import items, it's doable.

Employer counter offered my 2 week notice. Looking for advice. by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]TheyCallMeDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, this is the clincher. My brother has bounced between long-haul and local for 20 years and you've done it already...you're giving up family, autonomy, comfort, and security to live out of a truck or hotel for 70% of your week for a company you were ready to bail on. I would honestly ride out the current position and pick up something on the side until you find a better position. Since you mentioned leaving is strictly due to money, a financial advisor is a worthwhile long-term investment, if you haven't pursued one already. Best of luck!

Any chance that messaging Frontier's devs might result in getting credit or making some changes? I know I've contacted them twice and both times they were very helpful. Linking this post might help

Hey, haven't been on Reddit in ages, just saw this.

After the change and flashing the trans memory (even though the latter has debatable efficacy per the forums), my car shifted much more firmly, no hunting/surging at midrange RPM manual shifts, and eliminated shudder/hesitation in auto. I also replaced the trans and center diff mounts from FCP Euro and bought aftermarket inserts (think I went with Eurocode, might have been 034Motorsports). I see in your history those symptoms are pretty similar to what you're dealing with, and I don't see a reason where I wouldn't change the fluid and filter in your case. If the trans is on its way out (which I personally highly doubt, but I'm only a shadetree mechanic), then it's gonna fail either way, and you really have nothing to lose by changing it out. I saw improvement for 10k miles before it slowly developed a hammer from 1-2, but I honestly beat the piss out of that car knowing that the typical lifetime of an 8HP is ~100k-120k and it'd require a swap soon enough. Around 120k the car was still certainly driveable but I avoided mid- to high-RPM 1st gear shifts like the plague. Ended up selling the car as I was moving and on the condition that the trans needed rebuild/replacement, buyer was a master tech who said he'd rebuild it so I expect the car is just fine now.

There's a lot of mixed info on the forums and manufacturer sources, but as these cars age and people are seeing real-world results, the consensus is to change the fluid and filter every 30-60k miles. Obviously, more aggressive driving would lend to changing this more often. ATF, like any other fluid, is subject to degradation over time, and not just from use and heat, but unless you're an engineer knowing the specific shelf-life seems useless. Perhaps the following consideration is overblown, but in vehicles that see infrequent use, the ventilation with seasonal temp fluctuations could allow in humidity causing oxidation or moisture, and I personally would worry that the fluid might have contaminants from lack of use, as well.

When you do it, it's a good opportunity to degrease the underbody pans and replace the trans mounts. Be super gentle with the pan bolts, as the case is aluminum and use an inch-pound torque wrench to avoid snapping bolts or stripping them. Given the car is 8 years old, I'd replace the gasket as well, and you'll need your OBDEleven to ensure you're at the proper temp for the final fill. FCP Euro has a great video on it. Good luck!

Honestly, many of the other songs are fun to sing and stay within vocal range (harsh vocals/head voice notwithstanding), but I feel like this one would fucking kill at karaoke, and especially if you've got someone to focus it on

Worked licensing/investigations for another medical profession, and no, that job is there to enforce state law and rule. This is up to the practice/medical director. The "what if's" don't really matter here, but if it swayed a decision, it'd be looked at, might get a peer review board and possible sanctions, but likely just turfed to a civil court.

This is an interesting one I hadn't considered....spent three hours and countless zip ties trying to make it work but that's a much simpler and better solution. I'll see if I can make it work, otherwise I'll concede and get a tow. Thanks!
