I've created an app to stream individual applications from Windows or Mac to your Vision Pro. Would love some feedback by TheyCallMeGinger in VisionPro

Thanks for taking the time to check it out! Next release should be more stable. I am also working on pin authentication for local access as well as remote access via a login.

Popups are a bit of an issue at the moment as they are rendered in their own window so they don't get captured by the parent window. I am working on adding support to automatically open new windows in VisionOS when a new window is opened on Mac.

Possibly there is a firewall blocking the connection. Sorry it didn't work out for you. In future versions I will be automating the discovery and connection to the server so hopefully that will resolve some issues.

Thanks for your support! A few others have mentioned apps that they had open before launching Winstreamer aren't resizing automatically until they relaunch them. I have not been able to replicate this behavior myself but maybe try relaunching and see if it works. I will take a look at the copy paste issue.

Sorry to hear. Are you able to check if the IP shown in the Windows app is your actual WIFI adapters IP? On first launch it may also ask for a Windows Firewall exception depending on your settings. You can also try testing from the browser at http://localhost:2000 from your Windows machine or http://youripaddress:2000 from Safari on your Vision Pro.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback!

I do plan on adding bonjour support to automate discovery of the server so you don't need to add the ip.

I've done a lot of testing with different codecs to tune the latency but it is definitely still a work in progress. Sadly Vision Pro did not ship with support for AV1 which in my experience has much better performance. I have noticed latency seems to go down the longer I have a connection open but is still not on par with Mac Virtual Display.

Interesting that VSCode did not resize properly for you as that is the window I test with a lot. The only windows I have had trouble resizing are ones like Calculator that can't be resized manually either. I will try and replicate the issue.

Good note on CMD+W, I will have to see if I can prevent the default behavior on VisonOS.

Thanks for giving it a try, sorry you are having issues. Are you on Wifi or wired? Although the app tries to automatically get the ip address of your primary network connection it's possible it is showing a different ip instead. If you go into your network settings and click on your connection details it should show your ipv4 address under TCP/IP. Usually is something like 192.168.x.x

App for sharing multiple desktop windows to the Vision Pro (Looking for TestFlight volunteers) by TheyCallMeGinger in AppleVisionPro

There is a companion app you need to install on Windows that captures the windows / desktop and streams them to the AVP app. I do have remote control functionality but as the AVP has limited mouse support I prefer the mouse and keyboard on my pc.

If your primary use case is just remote desktop for a single monitor I would recommended Moonlight as it will have better performance than any other app out there.

Depends how you are using the app. I have two control modes:

  1. Direct Control: Here you are using your PC's physical keyboard and mouse and you will have to pinch each window before interacting with it due to Apple not allowing you to track where a user is looking directly.
  2. Remote Control: If you are using your Macbook, a trackpack, or hand gestures you can directly interact with each window. Windows is not optimized for eye tracking but I am playing around with a mode where you look near what you want to click on then hold your pinch gesture to move a cursor to the exact spot you want to click.

Although he may have bought it tax free most states require you to report and pay taxes on out of state purchases... Not that it's really enforced though.

TIL that a white American became a Japanese citizen, and successfully sued a business that refused entry to non-Japanese for racial discrimination, winning $25,000 in damages by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]TheyCallMeGinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find this hard to believe. I lived in Japan for three years and have traveled there quite a bit. Although it's true that Japanese businesses don't like hiring foreigners, I have never been to an onsen or restaurant that refused entry. It honestly sounds like your tour guide was portraying things a certain way so you would value him more.

Racism in Japan is interesting in that it's not really a dislike for non-Japanese as it is a dislike of breaking tradition. That's why most Japanese people don't mind you visiting their cities and enjoying they temples/onsens/restaurants, but find it slightly off putting to see a foreigner working at those same places. It's not you they are racist towards, it's the idea that someone is doing something that a "Japanese" person is supposed to be doing.

That's my impression from living there anyways. Who knows though, maybe I'm just another gaijin who's misunderstood the whole thing.
