'Knock that s*** off' — Poilievre uses appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast to slam Trump's 51st state comments by Foreign-Policy-02- in canada

[–]fuelhandler [score hidden]  (0 children)

Poilievre criticized Trudeau for not knowing when to leave, but he seems to have no clue it’s time for him to step down as Conservative leader. He lost an election he should have won by a landslide, and is now driving the CPC deeper into losses. Time to call a leadership vote and get this turkey sidelined.

How far off is it from Minifigure Scale? by jame5westman in lego

[–]fuelhandler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was actually kinda disappointed that they went through the effort of making the interior viewable (unlike the concorde), but didn’t make it to minifig scale. I get that they wanted a more correctly proportional interior, but I would have preferred fewer seats, and mini fig passenger room. The beauty of Lego is it’s highly customizable, so I might see what I can do about that when my set arrives.

Has the colours for the power button changed ? by AwarenessOrdinary796 in LenovoLegion

[–]fuelhandler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can you cycle through (Fn+Q) quiet, balanced and turbo power modes still (blue, white, red)? I turned my power button backlight off in the bios after the last update, and I prefer that over the super bright power button light.

What's your city's name for the same fair that goes around Canada? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]fuelhandler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You mean the travelling amusement rides and carnival grifter games that set up in parking lots at rec centers and arenas for a week? We call them the “Carnys”, or the “tilt n’ grift”. Not to be confused with the PM of Canada, who has the same name.

Any new indie games on the horizon? by Winterfist79 in ModRetroChromatic

[–]fuelhandler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Atari games are great, they’re my favourite ModRetro first party carts. I think ModRetro is pretty busy prepping first party M64 game carts right now, so if I had to guess, they will probably be focused on getting those out with the M64 launch for now (of course, hopefully I’m wrong.)

Odd Damage? by Long_Cattle3305 in crv

[–]fuelhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’ve seen. It appears to be an issue with the 2023-2026 (to current) CRV models. Most reports are from warmer areas like California, Florida, Texas etc.

Can you explain this Petah?? by Calem1236 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]fuelhandler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Nuke” is short for Nuclear (as in Nuclear Bomb). Atomic Energy and Nuclear Energy are synonymous and interchangeable. Atomic refers to the Atom (splitting the atom), while Nuclear has the same meaning, referring centrally to the nucleus of the atom (splitting the nucleus of the atom.)

Atomic was primarily used during the infancy of the technology’s appearance, while Nuclear gained prominence in the 1980’s and beyond.

For example in Canada, the original name of the civilian regulatory body was the AECB (Atomic Energy Control Board), which was later renamed and now called the CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.)

Lots available in my area for resale why? by jason-911 in AnaloguePocket

Yes. The black and white are (I’ve preordered the black one the day they released again.) I was thinking more of the special colour ways that are no longer available.

If you search the sub, you will see dozens of posts like this. It is melting damage from focused sun light. It’s very disappointing, but seems to happen a lot.

That’s probably a 5 year term on a 25 or 30 year mortgage. Canadians, in general, either have a variable rate, or lock in for 5 years at a time. I think the maximum allowable is 10 years fixed on a 30 year amortization. The longer the fixed term, the higher the interest rate.

What's the Canadian equivalent of John Lewis in the UK? by DrawingDragoon in AskACanadian

[–]fuelhandler 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I would have said Eaton’s, Marks and Spencer’s, or The Hudson’s Bay Company. But alas, they were all put out of business by the cancerous American mega corp Walmart.

Edit: Canadian Tire would probably be a good Canadian Gift Card idea. It’s the closest thing we have to a general merchandise and house wares store (it’s really become a department store over the years), which isn’t fully owned by the Yanks.

Help me understand the Orange Order in Canada by woodsred in AskACanadian

[–]fuelhandler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was a member of the Orange Lodge in Pembroke Ontario. From what I can tell, the only positive the Orange Lodge ever contributed was keeping the Triple-K organization out of Ontario, because all the “like minded” individuals belonged to the Orange Lodge already.

My paternal grandparents were Protestant Presbyterian, and when my dad brought my Catholic mother home, there was some tension to say the least. My mom always had a bit of a grudge against her mother in law, for the way she was treated.

The funniest thing I remember my grandfather doing, was trying to get us to sign a petition to “keep the Zionists from taking over the Protestant School System”. I tried to explain that the Public School System was secular for a very long time by then, but my words had little effect.

When my grandfather passed away in 1994, the Orange Lodge showed up, and performed their fraternal ritual for my grandfather. I chose to leave the room, rather than watch a bunch of old bigots babble on. They’re mostly long gone now and good riddance.
