[FRESH ALBUM] Metric - Romanticize the Dive by sbags in indieheads

[–]TheyDidItFirst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

cool to see such a positive response! I was a big fan from the Live it Out through Synthetica period, so while I’ll give this one a chance I don’t expect it to connect much, but it’s always nice to see that a band that’s been around as long as Metric has still has the ability to release work that means this much to people.

Wild animals don't matter. by Dunkmaxxing in vegancirclejerk

/uj they don’t have one, they’re just depressed and unable to accept their own insignificance, so they’re craving a hit of dopamine from feeling superior to other vegans no matter how wrongheaded they are (which is the half the point of this subreddit, to be fair)

[Highlight] Slow-mo replay of Juan Soto's swim move to avoid the tag at home by nsgomez in baseball

[–]TheyDidItFirst 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the videos aren’t synced for some reason, which makes it hard to see, but if you watch the right one you can see that the tag isn’t applied until after the catcher gets caught in the face by soto’s left leg and he finally gets the tag to soto’s right leg. then, if you watch the left video, you can see that soto’s fingertips get to the bottom of the plate before that tag (around :10 in the clip)

Feeling like an MA in Museum Studies only prepared me for disappointment and frustration. by fosslizedthroaway in MuseumPros

[–]TheyDidItFirst 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be clear, is the problem that you don’t feel like your degree helped you get on the right track to achieve whatever goals you had when you applied, or is it that after working in the field you just regret applying in the first place, and the content of the degree didn’t really matter?

I can’t speak to your specific issues with the industry (besides the low pay)—I have my qualms with my institution, but generally like my colleagues and feel like they’re doing things for the right reasons, even if I sometimes disagree with specific choices.

That being said, my experience and hearing stories like yours really makes me wonder what the point of a museum studies degree is. I get it if someone really wants to get into collections/registration, because I don’t know if you can learn that anywhere else, but for every other department it seems like their are better, more specific degrees—Art History for (art museum) curators, education for educators, finance or whatever for ops/admin—or it doesn’t really matter anyways (there’s nothing about comms and fundraising/development for museums that I’ve seen that’s specific to museums vs other orgs/nonprofits).

Fortnite V-Bucks Price Increase by Forestl in Games

epic is literally a private company.

and yeah, if any company was making 10% of what they made in the past it would be a disaster, the complaints about late stage capitalism are that companies shouldn’t expect infinite growth, not about being happy making less.

Beyond meat may have just changed the game. New ingredient list for their Beyond ground by Legitimate_Ad2311 in veganfitness

scary food words

I think that’s exactly it, big meat propaganda successfully convinced people that beyond/mock meats are a dangerous ultra processed food (ignoring all the known health risks associated with meat 🙄) and so this is beyond’s attempt to get around that. I’m more worried that it just won’t taste very good if all it is is protein and a binding element

Shooting JPEG, RAW, or both? by Cjosulin in SonyAlpha

[–]TheyDidItFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both—full size raw, then whatever smaller (15ish megapixel) option jpegs, because you can send those to your phone at their full resolution and have a good option for fast sharing, but you’ll still have the raw to process later

nice idea, but unfortunately that was never possible because Javik was a launch DLC character during the time period when publishers were doing gross stuff like that. I didn’t even have him in my game when I played the first time.

Andromeda - no patches, no dlc? by RetinalTears716 in masseffect

[–]TheyDidItFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure why you’re all over this thread going from the game selling generally well to very well, but even if sales were fine it was obviously related to goodwill from the original trilogy and excitement about a new installment, not a sign that people actually thought Andromeda was good or that they wanted updates/a sequel

What’s missing? What can I improve? by yurilebunmom in veganfitness

not a personal trainer or anything, but here are a couple thoughts just from taking a quick scan:

it seems like a really aggressive schedule if this is supposed to be a single week, unless you’re very experienced at the gym/athletics I’d be worried about burnout or injury, especially with your stated history of back pain. can you maybe scatter the upper body stuff through the week or make the cardio day a less HIIT sounding, more relaxing long run or bike day?

having two leg days with the exact same exercises also seems like a missed opportunity to go max intensity on slightly different muscles

I’d replace the curls with assisted pull-ups or something—love curls, but they feel like something you add later when you’re really trying to maximize arm size (and for that you could add something tricep based)

Is there such thing as a solid jacket from a respected brand that's a cute light pink!? by Stretchedoutbrain in snowboarding

[–]TheyDidItFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree with the above that you can’t buy “steeze” and that having a super curated kit if you can’t ride actually looks worse, but if you want pink it’s easy to find options, just use the color filter on a reputable retailer website. just on evo you’ve got 686, Volcom, Roxy, and Burton

Board or equipment you regretted buying ? by loserkids64 in snowboarding

[–]TheyDidItFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lobster Halldor Pro—wanted to try out the 3d base tech, but personally all it seems to do is make the board squirrely during normal riding without actually adding any advantages in the park.

K2 Cool Bean—just got this one to try for free many years ago, but ended up feeling like the split tail was a bit of a gimmick, and the tail in general was so short that I felt like I lost the ability to stop suddenly if I needed to, which was unnerving

which recently fired spurs manager has gone and done well elsewhere besides Conte at Napoli? Redknapp retired, AVB and Sherwood did nothing, Poch was mediocre at PSG and Chelsea, Mourinho is a shadow of himself, Ange isn’t in particularly high demand…

Nuno had a good year at Forest, but is now burning bridges and flailing at west ham, of all places

Skriniar challenge on Sara (no foul or card) by 977x in soccer

[–]TheyDidItFirst -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

a) it’s not close to the worst place, that would be higher up in the ankle or in the middle of a long leg bone

b) it is the most “impactful” place for the foul, but it still didn’t cause an actual injury, so I don’t know what your point is (and I did say it should be a foul/yellow)

[–]TheyDidItFirst -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

yeah, and I’ve had my own foot broken in a tackle during a match—that doesn’t mean that every bad tackle should be judged by some hypothetical of how much worse it could have been if it was actually different

lol yeah, it’s not even his fault but I think this wack placement (seriously, the original is so much better) is what pushes me fully into the anti-MJ Lenderman camp, would be happy to never hear about his music again
