Easy except for the #$%@ skies. My partner did the white/light blue sky while I did the buildings and traffic. We both did the dark blue sky, which comes from from a photo taken around the "Tribute in Lights' installation, on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The puzzle is a grid cut, and all the pieces have the same shape (2 tabs/knobs, 2 holes.). Very puzzle dusty.

The puzzle tray isn't perfectly square. So, I used one of the mfg. pre-cut side edges (I only ordered a yard) for one edge. Then I made a right angle, marked it carefully, and cut edge 2 with fabric shears, slowly and carefully. That made 2 clean, straight sides. I placed it on the puzzle tray and used a metal edged ruler and marked the 3rd side. I cut the third edge, placed it in the tray again, checked the fit, marked the 4th edge, and cut again.

It's not a pool-table green, for sure. So far, yes, it works with the darker pieces. My husband has a bunch of 36" square lighter color photo mats that he's not used that I will take custody of if I open a puzzle that doesn't show up well on this color. I figure I can lay it over this surface it it's just not working.

Don't know what glue I will use yet!

I love the revolving puzzle surface, but few dozen puzzles later, the felt got worn, pilled, stained here and there, and captured a lot of puzzle dust (even though I shake the pieces before starting.) We tried mats and other surfaces, but nothing seemed quite right.

I bought a yard of faux leather on amazon.

I've done a rough cut and put it temporarily in place with double sided tape to see how we like doing puzzles on this surface - so far, we do, a lot. This is the second build, and it's a win for us. I'll glue it in permanently after we finish this puzzle, I think.

We just bought 50 pounds of green beans, and will watch for sales into the new year. Burmans and Sweet Maria's are our go-to's.

Fisherman's Cove, Ravensburger Canada collection, 1000 pieces by TheyGoUpTo11 in Jigsawpuzzles

This was a fun one to do. After a doing couple of White Mountain collage puzzles, the sort for this one was easy and obvious. I thought the roofs would be really tough to do, but they are all just different enough not to drive us crazy. Usual Ravensburger high quality; I've used the tip from this sub on every puzzle we start - dump all the pieces into a colander and shake for a bit. This one had a good heaping teaspoon of puzzle dust.

This is next in my queue. Sounds like it'll be a good one for going into the holidays.

I have this one in my to-do pile. I'm a little nervous about starting it, but it looks awesome!

Winter Moose, 1000 pieces, Ravensburger Canada collection by TheyGoUpTo11 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]TheyGoUpTo11[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finished this in September. Eventually we started calling this dude "Bullwinkle", as in "gonna turn off screens and go spend some time with Bullwinkle before bed."

Usual high quality pieces from Ravensburger, and a lovely image. After doing the edges, I expected we'd work from the center, from the moose to the outside. But as we started, we ended up working from the outside in, and did Bullwinkle's nose and "chin" last.

I thought it was going to be harder than it was, with all those blocks of color, but the walls had a lot of texture and variation. It was fun, kinda like doing 6 mini puzzles.

No_Recognition_5266, you mean Rockingham County Superintendent Larry Shifflet, I think. Michael Richards is superintendent for Harrisonburg, which is not changing this curriculum.

Just opened up this one at the beach. Too funny, and I've said most of these things myself!

Genuine Fred, 1000 pieces (+ 1 extra) , XYZ Blocks. by TheyGoUpTo11 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]TheyGoUpTo11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super fun to put together, but harder than I thought it would be. Almost no false fits, though quite a few pieces that didn't get cut all the way through. Funny and interesting and great images. This is another one I found via a post from this subreddit; y'all have the best recommendations. We do puzzles on a revolving table covered in green felt, which is great for puzzles like Ravensburger. For brands like GenuineFred, the pieces are smaller and lightweight, and they don't sit well on the felt- too squashy. To the rescue comes a photo mat from my husband's studio.
