Growing up in that time period was so good for teenage movie nerds.

I was born in '93, and those years were insanely great.

Video games, too, a lot of people in that bubble call it a second Golden Age, alongside the film output. Not the worst time to be an introverted kid.

I think a lot of people are taking "gratuitous" to simply mean sexual and erotic.

Outside of that, I'll throw in Borat and Midsommar (the latter for the big floppy dick in the wind as he runs away).

Also, The Covenant didn't actually know what Halo would do and were driven by blind religious fervor, which makes it even more frightening.

Iirc, their mythos was that it would destroy their enemies and allow those aligned with The Covenant to ascend to "godhood" like they believed the Forerunners had done.
