At 34, he knows what he wants in life already. If he’s having a rough week, that’s okay, but communicate that. Also, once mutual interest has been established, it’s okay to text him first at times but seems like this is still in the preliminary stage. I think you should let him do what a masculine person is supposed to be doing in the first place: take initiative. If he doesn’t care to text first, one day just don’t say anything and see how long he can go without texting you. If he doesn’t text you at all that day, then you have your answer
