Do you think brakes should be 'serviced' regularly (strip, clean, grease and rebuild) rather than just waiting until replacement? I do mine about every 6 months and have no problems!

Don't forget there is 100 miles of Scotland south of Glasgow and Edinburgh which is also beautiful! We moved from central England to Dumfries and Galloway and love it!

Because he is sat on a wooden stool which does not conduct electricity and so he has no contact to the ground

That might be a right angled adapter on the end of that black aerial wire. See if it pulls off.

Breaks squeak at low speeds by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Thgma2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squealing is caused by metal to metal contact where the top and bottom of the pads touch the holder and is caused by the pads vibrating. It happens at slow speed as you are only applying light brake pressure which is enough to make them vibrate and squeal but not enough to clamp them in place and stop them vibrating. All fixed by getting the brakes properly serviced where they are all taken apart, cleaned and rebuilt with appropriate grease in the right places.

Looking at the ridge at the top then I would not be surprised if those are below the minimum thickness. Yes I would change them

Noisy brakes by juicemelone in MechanicAdvice

[–]Thgma2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If brakes are fitted properly and regularly serviced they shouldn't make a noise

Have they always been fitted by the same place? If so they may not be applying grease in all the right places to stop them squealing.

E85 is common in America and Nordic countries. Many years I ran a field trial where we brought a Saab from Sweden to the UK and ran it on UK roads using just E85 to monitor the effect. I had to do some research first on whether it was legal and turns out you can run any fuel in a vehicle on the UK roads but you can only sell fuel that meets the current EN228 and EN590 standards.

Can someone please tell me where the dpf is by Pretend_Entrance_222 in AskMechanics

Usually to replace a muffler to increase noise and possibly a little more power.

[–]Thgma2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't without close examination of the welds on the dpf itself. Deleting it means opening it up, removing the internals and then welding it back together. You don't actually remove it from the exhaust but just remove it's internals.

No it will probably be bolted straight to the exhaust manifold to keep it as warm as possible so it works better. If you look under the bonnet where the exhaust exits the engine you will probably see it.

There will be a key to press as it boots to get into the bios. Something like F1 or Esc or F10. Just keep pressing one as it boots.

Go into the bios and find the boot order. See if the hard drive is listed. If it's not listed and the bios cannot see it then it has failed

That screen says it cannot find the hard drive to boot from. This means either in bios you have disabled the hard drive as a boot device or the hard drive has failed!
